EXNER, Minnie Freida (nee Wendland) Friday, 21 Mar 2008
Langley, BC
Mom took our dad's waiting hand Mar. 21, one month shy of her 88th birthday. Born to Carl and Olga Wendland in Grayson, Sask., she moved to B.C. with the family in the 1930's. She was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters", answering the call for female workers to help with the war effort, joining Dominion Bridge in Vancouver. Bill Exner, another Grayson resident, stopped in to visit on his way through to basic training on the West coast, and they fell in love and married before he headed overseas in 1944. Her life became busy raising three children and becoming involved in school, church and family activities. Mom was known for her willingness to help whenever asked. With failing health in her later years, she moved to Rosewood Care Facility in Langley where she shared many stories of "life on the farm" with other residents and staff. Mom was the family historian and took much pleasure in showing others her many photo albums or reading her short stories about members of both sides of the family. Her beautiful smile and kind eyes will be remembered always by her children, Carol Newmeyer (Salt Spring Island), Donna Farquhar (Carey Borno) Langley, Brian (Lynda) Delta, brother Ed Wendland, grandchildren Mary-Ann Newmeyer and Mike Exner, and cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Bill and her grandson Greg Newmeyer. No funeral by request. Plant a flower in your garden in her memory.
