Lee, Rose-Marie Monday, 09 Jun 2008
Quesnel, BC
Rose-Marie Lee (nee Hachey) was born on September 3, 1935 in Quesnel, B.C. and passed away on June 9, 2008.
Marie was raised throughout B.C. with several periods on the Coast but always returned to the Cariboo.
She married her soul mate Henry on February 22, 1954. The early years of raising the family were on the West side of Marguerite, with most of the years on the old Zschiedrich ranch above Kersley.
Marie was a supporter and biggest fan of Henry and the children’s activities. She was most happy when surrounded by family, shopping and traveling.
She retired with Henry in Kersley where she enjoyed ceramics with her many friends and family. In July 2006, Marie and Henry sold the acreage, moved to the Prince George Chateau, where they made many new friends. After losing Henry, her family and her Chateau family were always there for her, but she never got over the loss of Henry.
The family thanks the medical community and many friends who helped support Marie and the family through a lifetime of medical challenges.
Marie will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Henry and son Alex. She is survived by her children Don (Ruth); Heather (Don); Barbara (Eric); Valerie (Bob); Steven; Maurice (Susanna), grandchildren; Heather, Mike, Andrew, Ryan (Nicole), Tara, Morgan, Darin, Cody, Ronnie, Kyle, Tyler, Eric, Eli, Marissa, Samantha and Tony and three great-grandchildren.

Oakes, Wilson Sunday, 08 Jun 2008
Quesnel, BC
Wilson Oakes, a long time resident of Moose Heights who was deeply loved and respected by his family, friends and community passed away June 8, 2008 of cancer.
Wilson will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 61 ½ years Olive, children, Jim (Nancy) Oakes, Lorelei (Terry) Croy and grandchildren Toby Oakes, Coralee Oakes, Bart (Rena) Croy, Shawna Croy and great-grandchildren Darian & Delany Oakes and James Croy. "James" Wilson was born June 30, 1922 in Daysland, Alberta. In May 1933, the Oakes’ family packed up (after a short time in Vancouver) and headed North to the Cariboo. He served his country in WWII in the navy where he travelled the world, returning home February 14th, 1946 where he courted and then married Olive Mufford. During the following years Wilson worked very hard providing for his family. He was a self employed logger, operated a sawmill and farmed. “Wiss” was an accomplished musician and we are fortunate to have warm memories of him playing his guitar at our celebrations. He loved to play games such as horseshoes and cards and loved his animals. Enduring many good times and hard times, including the tragic death of their teenage son Jack, Wilson remained strong and dedicated to his family and friends.
In the later years, Wiss and Olive moved into town to their new home at the Fraser Village. It is here that they met many great friends, enjoyed countless visits with family and friends and celebrated numerous occasions. Throughout his life, Wilson struggled with his health but always managed without complaint. He was quiet in his ways but left a strong impact on all those whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed.
Olive and the family would like that the Doctors, Nurses and staff of G.R. Baker who took such good care of Wilson. Thanks goes out as well to Clayton’s Funeral Service for making the arrangements and to the OAPO Golden Centre where a tea honouring Wiss’ life was held June 12th. Finally to the family and friends who sent cards, flowers, meals and made donations we thank you.

Hill, Kay Friday, 06 Jun 2008
Quesnel, BC
Kay Hill was born in Quesnel February 21, 1922. She was delivered by the Dr. Baker for whom the local hospital is named and she passed away June 6, 2008.
Kay was raised in Beaver Valley, near Horsefly. Living on a remote ranch she learned responsibility early, and before the age of 10 she was saddling and harnessing horses, milking the cows, driving teams during haying.
It was during her years in Beaver Valley, when she was 14, she met the one and only man in her life, Guy Hill, and it was the beginning of a love affair that would last for more than 70 years, right to the day of her passing. They were married in Williams Lake, November 5, 1942. Guy was sent overseas to Europe less than two months later. While he was away she worked for the Department of Transport in Fort St. John, for the US Army in Prince Rupert, and in a Boeing Aircraft Assembly plant in Victoria.
When Guy got home they moved to Winfield in the Okanagan for two years, then onto Quesnel in 1948.
In 1953 a tragic accident took the life of her cousin Bobby Robertson, leaving six young children without parents. Ken and Sheila, and later Bob came to live with them. Though they were second cousins, in practice she was their mother, their children were her grandchildren, and their children’s children were her great-grandchildren. She never thought of them in any other way.
After Guy’s death in 1987 Kay busied herself with volunteer work. She was Treasurer of the Quesnel Cancer Society and worked at the office one day a week. She was also treasurer of several events which raised money for cancer research and treatment, including the Daffodil Committee, the Relay for Life and the Frank Cushman Trail Ride. She was also a member of the Home Care committee and worker for the Breast Cancer Support Group.
Kay was a member of the Catholic Women’s League receiving her 60 year pin as a member earlier this year. She was a long time member of the Quesnel Curling Club and curled as long as she was able. Kay was always busy with her gardening and her family.
Kay be be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by husband Guy, parents Neil and Katie Robertson, brother Art Gibson, sons Ken and Alistair.
She is survived by her sister Jean Muir and family, brother Neil (Marie) and family, Art Gibson’s family, children; Sheila (Jon), Bob (Audrey), Beth and Charlie, grandchildren; Kathy, Colleen, Rick, Brad, Kim, Alan, Linda, Greg, Cindy, Jeff and their families and many nieces and nephews.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Cancer Society, Quesnel Branch, or Quesnel and District Palliative Care Association.

A special thanks to the Home Care and Palliative Care staff for their help and understanding during this difficult time. Sharrott, Lee Sunday, 01 Jun 2008
Quesnel, BC
Lee was born to Samuel and Helen Sharrott on December 18, 1941 in Lloydminster, Sask. He was the youngest of four rambunctious farm boys, born after Charlie, Lane and Walter respectively. baby sister Phyllis followed 12 years later.
Listening to tales of Lee’s formative years would raise the hair on the backs of our necks. One of many stores: One day the boys were taking turns jumping over the open well. Lee, age 4, came last but his little legs couldn’t clear the hole and he fell in. However, he did manage to catch himself at the edge of the hole and hung by his fingertips as his brothers ran on, blissfully unaware. His mother heard his cries for help and came to the rescue. This is one of the several disturbing but entertaining stories, and two things become apparent in the telling. It is a credit to Lee’s mother, Helen, that she survived those years as a sane woman and it explains Lee’s lack of interest in risk-taking behaviors, his fondness for stability and “Never getting too excited” about things.
Lee left home at age 14 and work as a farmhand on various homesteads, tried the oil rigs and others jobs and eventually settled in Quesnel in 1965 and first worked at various sawmills, then went to work at the Cariboo Hotel as a server then became manager. He left there in 1977 to work at house moving, then he went to work at the City Works until he retired at the end of 2002 at the age of 60.
Anyone who knew Lee, knew him as a man of honour and principle. He was a loving, caring, steadfast and fun friend. He was a stable and devoted husband and father. Lee met the great love of his life, his lifelong partner, Doreen, in 1969. He joined the household of Doreen and her four children in 1971 and in 1975 they were married. Lee slipped seamlessly into family life, immediately becoming a gentle, caring respectful husband and father. He was a big old guy with a heart as big as his body. He was our “Teddy Bear” and he was our “Rock”.
Lee was a gentle, strong, wise, stubborn, giving, kind, funny, proud, playful, emotional, opinionated and loving. His kids, his nephews, nieces, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren - all were blessed with his loving and gentle manner. His quiet presence was a magnet for children, animals and anyone who needed a non-judgmental, open soul.
Lee leaves a legacy of love. He leaves us wishing for more of him.
The family of Lee Sharrott would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at G.R. Baker Hospital, V.G.H. and P.G. Regional Hospital for their kind and wonderful care of Lee and his family for the past two years of Lee’s life. Also to the relatives and friends for the many visits, kindness, flowers, plants, food and visits, and support at his passing. Special thanks to Dale and Beth for their wonderful care of me and Missy. Doreen Sharrott and family.
