HASTINGS, Sharon Tuesday, 23 Sep 2008
White Rock, BC
In loving memory of Sharon Hastings, born in Prestwick, Scotland, October 6, 1956, passed into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday September 23, 2008 after a two year struggle with cancer. Immeasurably loved by her husband Ross, and by her children Martyn and Heather, her pride and joy, who called her the "best mom ever". She is survived by her loving brother John (Carole) and sister Margaret (Stuart). Sharon was a charge nurse in the ICU units of the Glasgow Royal and the RVI in Newcastle. Latterly she worked as a nurse at the White Rock Medical Associates clinic. She was the most other-oriented, grace-filled, joyful and fun-loving person one could ever know, the epitome of earthy spirituality. She lived as the beloved of God and that love exuded from her to others and especially people in need. She is now in the immediate presence of God, worshiping and occasionally dancing wildly, to be sure. ALDER, W. Clark Sunday, 21 Sep 2008
White Rock, BC
On 21 September, 2008, Alder Clark passed away in White Rock, B.C. He leaves to celebrate the gift of his life his beloved wife, Kristjana Magnusson Clark, nieces and nephews across Canada, and many friends, including fellow Rotarians. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Meryle (Clements), parents, Fred and Jessie Clark, infant brother Frederick, sister Isabel, and brother Erskine.
Born in 1910, in Alberton, Prince Edward Island, Alder came west as a young man, to Wilkie, Saskatchewan, to work with his uncle, founder of W.C. Wells Construction Company. During World War II, he built training airstrips in the prairies (including the famous runway at Gimli, Manitoba). In the 50's & 60's, he was responsible for buildings, roads, and highways that were making Edmonton a modern city.
In Wilkie, Alder found his first wife, Meryle Clements, with whom he shared a rich and joyful life for fity-two years. They forged special bonds with nieces and nephews and opened their home to several, so they could study at the University of Alberta. When he retired (early, to see the world), they went west again, to Victoria, then settled in White Rock. After Meryle's death, Alder met and married Kristjana in 1995. He delighted in her company and in her family, declaring that no other man had been so lucky. Always positive, he bore the afflictions of old age with humility and grace.
We will celebrate his accomplished and loving life on October 3rd at 2 p.m., at a service in the chapel of Victory Memorial Park Funeral Center, 14831-28 Ave., Surrey, B.C. V4P 1P3.

DA_SILVA, Karen Monday, 15 Sep 2008
White Rock, BC
8th April 1955 - 15th September 2008
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Karen; she is survived by her husband Jose, son Luke and parents Eric & Barbara Cleaver. She will be greatly missed by many relatives and friends but she will always be in our hearts. Karen loved to travel and meet people, and she was always planning the next trip. She touched so many lives through her acts of compassion and caring, either with the "Itty Bitty Titty Committee" a Breast Cancer Support group in South Surrey / White Rock or "But I'm Not Dead Yet Club" as means of encouraging her doctors, family and friends to see her as she wanted to be seen-alive and with hope for the future however long that future may be. Handing out hundreds of buttons to other patients, doctors, nurses and any one who asked her what it was about was Karen's goal. Karen had many jobs in her life, but the one that gave her the most joy and fulfillment was working with special needs children in the Surrey Schools District # 36.
Special thanks to Dr V. Raffles, Dr R. Dykstra, Dr Lee-Ann Martin, Dr D. Lowe, Dr J. Chan and Dr Amy Mabie for making her last days dignified and painless.
There will be a private cremation for the family.
A Celebration of her life will take place at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28th Avenue, Surrey, B.C. at 2:00 pm, Saturday October 4th, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer Research in her memory or to the Palliative Care Ward at Peace Arch Hospital. Heartfelt thanks from the family to the wonderful nurses and doctors in Palliative Care at Peace Arch Hospital.
