Mrs. Stella Byman passed away suddenly in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 at the age of 72 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Revelstoke Community Center on Wednesday, April 2nd, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Revelstoke Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2398, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Stella.
Stella was born in Thorhild, Alberta on October 13, 1935 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1964. Together with her husband Bert they had owned several local businesses, the last being Canyon Sales & Rentals, later known as Rough Country. Stella was an avid golfer and looked forward to spring when she could spend time on the course. She enjoyed traveling, driving, making wine and cooking. Stella enjoyed going to Curves and was a very dedicated member for the past four years. She was very lucky in games of chance and frequently won prizes in draws. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Her grandchildren were very important to her and she doted over them. To them she was known as “darlin.”
Stella was pre-deceased by three sisters: Wanda, Jean and Leona. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bert of Revelstoke; son Greg (Barb) Byman of Revelstoke; grandchildren: Bryce (Jessica Craddock) and Kerstin, both of Revelstoke; six half sisters and two half brothers; three sisters-in-law: Mary Goodwin, Margaret Kennedy and Hilda Byman, all of Invermere; brother-in-law Bing Byman of Invermere as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, raised in Field, B.C., retired from the C.P.R. in 1985 in Vernon after many years as a locomotive engineer. He is survived by his loving wife Gertie, to whom he was married for 58 years; his sister Helen Belous, Enderby, B.C.; his brother Robert (Rosemary), Surrey, B.C. Also many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents James Allan Burns and Millicent Keown. There will be no service by request. Mr. Ted May passed away at Moberly Manor, Revelstoke on Saturday, September 13th, 2008 at the age of 87 years.
There will be no formal funeral service by Ted’s own request. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Moberly Park Manor Foundation, P.O. Box 1570, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Ted.
Ted was born in Trail, B.C. on October 22, 1920 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1949. Ted served with the Canadian Navy Reserves during World War 2. He was a quiet man who enjoyed being with his family.
Ted was pre-deceased by his wife Florence in 2003. He is survived by three daughters: Linda Mackenzie of Enderby, Annita May of Revelstoke and Lorna Biatecki of Revelstoke; son-in-law Bruce Biatecki of Revelstoke; five grandchildren: Sharon (Rick) Kuhl of Tappen, Deborah (Ian) Stewart of Kelowna, Dawn McLaren of Cochrane, Alberta, April Mannarino of Revelstoke and Brad (Leyna) Biatecki of Revelstoke; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Bert May of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet Lorraine Patricia ‘Pat’ Turk passed away at the age of 51 at her home in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, on September 9, 2008, after a long battle with cancer.
Pat was born on November 15, 1956, in Nelson, B.C., the daughter of Clarence & Eleanor Boettger. She married Bob Turk on July 11, 1981. They met fourteen months before on the day Mount St. Helens erupted.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Bob Turk, daughters Tawnya Kononen, Dusty Harvey and Shilo Turk; her son, Kori Turk. her father and stepmother, Clarence & Ruth Boettger, sisters Peggy Boettger, Donalda Wiggins, Lolq Hagen, Tracee Boettger and Cynthia Prosser; brothers Dale and Lance Boettger, and Rob and Alan Prosser. Three grandchildren, Hannah & McKenna Kononen and Camron Harvey, twenty-five nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased in death by her mother Eleanor (Hosford) Latting Meredith.

Our beloved Marlene died in our arms at home in Cranbrook on Monday, September 8. She was 67 years old.
Marlene was born to Ted and Rose (Turchak) Dean on January 7, 1941 in her grandmother’s house in Lake Valley, Saskatchewan. The family lived in Moose Jaw until moving to a farmstead near Lawson in 1952. In her younger years, Marlene enjoyed playing softball, dancing, and listening to Elvis Presley. She was a good student until she was distracted by the pursuit of Glen; they were married on July 14, 1961.
Marlene was the older sister to Donald, Judi (husband Donnie and sons Jordan and Brendon), Dianna (husband Bruce) and Donna. Marlene had a large extended family that included Evelyn, Inez, Verna (Keith), Shirley (Bob), Lorne (Diane), Garry (Gail), Leroy (Fran), and Dennis (Jo-Ann). Marlene also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marlene was pre-deceased by father Ted, George and Karin Ecklund (Glen’s parents), grandparents Arthur and Ruth Dean and Fred and Sophie Turchak, sisters-in-law Vivian, Norma, and Verna Dean (Central Butte, SK), as well as several aunts and uncles.
Mom will be deeply missed by husband Glen, sons Calvin (Carrie) and Dwight, granddaughter Sandra, Gus the cat, Elvis and Libby the granddogs, and Linus and Lucy the goats.
Marlene touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She was a very social person who could talk for hours over a cup of coffee (or glass of wine). She leaves friends in Hope, Revelstoke, and Cranbrook. Marlene was an avid gardener who loved flowers and birds, she adored vibrant colours, and she was a meticulous homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, card games, and trying her luck at the casino. She had a keen sense of humour and a sharp wit.
Marlene fought various forms of cancer with great dignity and courage for more than 10 years. She was helped in this struggle by Doctors Keith Lowden and Robert O’Brien and nurse Val Paolini of the Oncology Department of the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and, more recently, the Home Care nurses of Interior Health. We wish to thank each of the doctors, nurses, and other staff for their compassionate care over the years. A special thank-you goes to Dr. Sarah Chesney of the F.W. Green Medical Centre for providing care and attention that went well beyond the call of duty.
A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, at McPherson’s Funeral Services, 2200 2nd Street South, Cranbrook.
Donations in lieu of flowers are requested. Marlene was a supporter of the B.C. Cancer Agency and the local SPCA.
We will miss you always.

Tom was born on November 27th, 1921, in North Vancouver, B.C., and passed away on September 2nd, 2008, in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 86 years.
Tom will be lovingly remember by his one son, Gerry (Sandi) Cowley of Revelstoke, BC; one daughter, Christine (Wayne) Shepherd of William’s Lake, BC; Five grandchildren: Dawn, Heather (Kevin), Jason (Dawn), Tom (Erin), and Brian (Erin); nine great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members. Tom was preceded in death by his wife Josephine Rita (Josie) Cowley on Juny 17th, 2007.

Mrs. Kathleen Florence (Kay) Markstrom passed away at Still Waters Private Home, Kelowna, B.C. on Monday, August 25th, 2008 at the age of 83 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held from the Fellowship Baptist Church, Revelstoke on Tuesday afternoon, September 2nd, with Pastor Rick Eby and Pastor Arlyss Peters officiating. Cremation with interment of the cremated remains followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C., Suite 300, 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2, in memory of Kay.
Kay was born in Haney, B.C. on June 6, 1925 and had been a resident of the Revelstoke area for many years prior to her move to Kelowna in 2004. She taught grades 1-6 in Sidmouth when the family lived in the area. After they moved to Revelstoke she returned to teaching in 1968 and taught kindergarten in the Catholic Church Hall. In 1970 Kay moved to the public school system to start teaching the kindergarten program, where she taught until her retirement. Kay loved berry picking, baking, sewing, gardening, quilting and canning. She was a wonderful friend and always willing to help anyone. Family was the most important priority in Kay’s life. Kay was pre-deceased by her husband Roy, daughter Judy Lauzon, sister Muriel Rudd and brother Jack Cameron. She is survived by five children: John Markstrom of Revelstoke, Bruce (Sandy) Markstrom of Nanaimo, Bill (Kathy) Markstrom of Kelowna, David (Brenda) Markstrom of Calgary and Mary-Kay (Michael) Paschko of Brisbane, Australia; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and one on the way as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bert Oscar “Andy” Anderson of Kamloops passed away on August 19, 2008 at 87 years of age.
Andy is survived by his wife Veronica, sons Glenn, Ross (Diane), Kevin (Sharon) and Conrad all of Kamloops; grandchildren Gary (Lindsey), Dexter (Tracy), Clinton (Zahra), Kurtis, Trevor, Mathew and Rhonda (Darcy); great-grandchildren Zackery, Taylor, Ethan and Madison; and brother Elvin (Sonja) of Winnipeg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father Karl Oscar, mother Anna Helen (nee Peterson), and baby brother Melvin.
Andy was born on May 14, 1921 in Revelstoke B.C. He lived with his parents in Field B.C. from 1926 to 1935 and then moved back to Revelstoke. He finished High School at Campion College, Regina. Andy started in train service with the C.P.R. in Revelstoke in 1941, took a leave of absence and enlisted in the R.C.A.F. In the spring of 1942 he went overseas and in spring of 1943 was an airgunner. He was shot down and wounded at the end of July 1943 and eventually ended up in Stalag IV B as a prisoner of war, until he was liberated by Russian forces in 1945. He resumed train service in 1946 until his retirement in 1974. Andy met his wife Veronica at Shaughnessy Military Hospital in Vancouver in 1945 and they were married in August of 1946. They moved to Kamloops in 1948.
The Funeral Service took place on Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive, with Reverend Terri-Ann Mattiasson officiating. Following the service, Andy was laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery. A Funeral Mass was recited by Monsignor Jerry Desmond on Monday, August 25, 2008 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 635 Tranquille Road.
