Born July 22, 1917 in Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2008. Predeceased by her husband John (April, 2007) is survived by her daughter Pat (Robbie) Robertson, son Bill Colwell, her three sister-in-laws Hazel Rodger, Lorna Allen and Louise Marnell, granddaughter Cherie (Bob) Alyward, grandson D.J. (Sonya) Robertson, granddaughter Reta (Chris) Saborowski and the joy of her life, her four precious great grandchildren, Justin, Mackenzie, Gracie and Nicholas and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service, will be held Friday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam St., Nanaimo, B.C.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Dufferin Place (Arbutus Wing) for the wonderful care given to our Mom and Grandmother over the last 10 months. A special thank you to her niece Faye for the quality time she spent with mom, it was truly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the S.P.C.A.

Chemainus Loses A Great Treasure!
Iris Evelyn Day {Trixie} born on Sept 16th, 1923
On the beautiful sunny morning of April 29th at 8 a.m., Trixie left us behind as she moved on to her final adventure. She was pre-deceased by Norm Allen, our dad, and also by the next love of her life, George Day, with whom she spent many happy years. She will be sadly missed by her children Gail and Simon, Linda and Vince, Judy and David and Brian and Cathy, her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren: Carol, Graham, Brian, Colin, Kristal, Dustin, Starla, Melissa, Riley, Calli, Leighton, Brittany, Riley T, Damon, Owen, Elliot and her adopted grandchild Sara. She also leaves her wonderful friends at the Harbourview House, the Royal Canadian Legion and all the people of Chemainus whose lives touched hers. Trixie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She always knew how to make us laugh! Her proudest achievements were her children. She was active right up to the end of her life and had just returned from the best-ever trip to Hawaii. We would like to thank her friend, Dr. Manhas and the wonderful, gentle staff at CDH, on 2 South for caring for our mom so lovingly. Thank you, Mom, for giving us life and sharing your zest for life with all of us. We love you and know that your spirit lives on in all of us.

A celebration of Trixie’s life will be held on Mother’s Day, May 11th, at 1 p.m. at the Chemainus Legion Hall. Everyone who knew Trixie has a good story to tell, so please bring them along to share with us.

With saddened hearts we would like to announce the passing of a good wife, mother and grandmother. She lived in Nanaimo many years before moving to Sidney, BC in 1976, with a final move to Saltspring Island in 1986.
After a lengthy illness Effie passed away at the Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island. She leaves behind her loving husband Allan, 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and was starting to count the great grandchildren’s arrivals.
Effie enjoyed knitting, traveling, drawing, reading, crosswords and playing scrabble. In her later years she started quilting, making gifts for her many grandchildren.
Effie also enjoyed and loved her many pets over the years.
Effie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

NEAVE, PAUL WILLIAM (Bill) Sunday, 27 Apr 2008

Neave, Paul William (Bill) passed away April 27th, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. Bill lived all of his 81 years in Nanaimo, never wishing to live anywhere else.
Pre-deceased by his wife Isabelle in 1997 and his brother Allan (Butch) in 2007.
Bill is survived by his daughter Sandra (Gwyn), son Edward (Cheryl) and sister Emily Leblonde as well as grandchildren Davina, Brandon, Michael, Carlee, Darla, Sean and Ryan.
Bill held numerous jobs over his lifetime, including working for the Pacific Biological Station, and plumbing both residentially and commercially. Bill spent his happiest years commercial fishing up and down the West Coast of British Columbia. He was a long time member of the Elks Lodge as well as a member of the Branch 10 Legion and spent many years at the Nanaimo Curling Club.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at an open house at his son’s home on May 11th from 1:00 to 4:00 at 5770 Kerry Lane, Nanaimo, B.C.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
GRAY, ANTHONY GERALD (Tony) Sunday, 27 Apr 2008

July 13, 1927 to April 27, 2008
Tony passed away peacefully on April 27 at Dufferin Place surrounded by his family. He was pre-deceased by his parents Harry and Rose, his sister Peggy and in 2001, the love of his life, Thelma (Sam). Tony was born in Oxshott, Surry, England and served in the British Merchant Marines during World War 2. He immigrated to Canada in 1947, settling in Stony Mountain, Manitoba, where he married Sam and had 2 children. In 1967, the family came to Nanaimo and started a new chapter in their lives. Tony worked for Sears in both the Harbour Park store and the new store in Rutherford Mall. He and Sam both liked to travel and spent many wonderful vacations both in Canada and abroad. He is survived by his children, Jerry and Kellie (Rob), grandchildren, Carrie (Martin), Riley, Mikaela and Jake, and great grandson Liam. There was nothing Tony liked better than a good drink of scotch or a cold beer, so please join us on Saturday, May 3 from 1 - 3 p.m. at Kellie and Rob’s home, 2742 Goldfinch Cres. and raise a glass in Tony’s memory.
Jerry and Kellie would like to thank all of the hard working staff at Dufferin Place and Dr. Helmut Mark for many years of kindness and caring he gave to both our Mom and Dad.

Joanne passed away peacefully at her home in Ladysmith, BC, with her devoted husband by her side. She leaves behind husband Colin Corney, parents: Joe and Lee Constable of Riverview, NB., brother Dan Constable (Rosa) Dartmouth, NS, . sisters: Joyce Poirier (Andre) St. Charles, NB., Shelley Alain (Marc) Greenwood, NS. Predeceased by sister Carla. Also survived by special nieces and nephews. Being an East Coaster and loving the West Coast, it was Joanne's wish to be forever on both. There will be a celebration of her life in Joanne's honour to be held at her home on Saturday April 26, 2008 1:00 - 4:00 PM.

March 7, 1950 passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital March 28, 2008. He will be deeply missed by his wife and soul mate of 35 years Cheryl, his sons Kalen (Jennifer) with daughter Shelby and Aaron (Christena) with daughter Camryn and son Coby, as well as many loving family members and friends. Dick passed gracefully at home with his love Normie at his side. He now is charged with the care of his grandson Thomas, who left us in November, 2007. He loved British Columbia, from his earlier years in the Cariboo to later in life on Vancouver Island. First grandson Charlie will keep Dick’s unfailing wit and humor alive for us to enjoy for years to come. He is survived by mother Fran, brothers Don, Dennis and Dan, daughter Billie (Steve) and grandson Charlie.
A service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Anne’s Church, 407 Wembley Road, Parksville, BC at 1:00 pm. Donations to the British Columbia Childhood Cancer Parent’s Association (bcccpa.org) in Dick’s name gratefully accepted.

George passed away at NRGH after suffering complications for a heart attack. George is survived by his wife, Gina and daughter, Georgina, also by his brother, Louis (Jo) Gall of Edmonton and sister, Ann (Lou) McMurray of Vancouver as well as nieces and nephews. He was employed in the logging industry at Nanaimo Lakes, Comox Logging in earlier years then in the Steam Plant at Harmac. After his retirement from the mill he enjoyed working on his hobby farm, collecting steam locomotive memorabilia and particularly loved to talk about local history. He was a member of the Nanaimo Radio Association, the Nanaimo & District Museum Society, Transport Canada and N.A.L.T. The family would like to extend a very sincere thanks to Dr. Patterson and the incredibly caring I.C.U. nurses at N.R.G.H.
