Durham, James Edward Saturday, 12 Jan 2008
Merritt, BC
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim on Saturday, January 12, 2008. Jim leaves behind his wife Claudette and two children Bob (Erin) and Cindy (Jason) of Vanderhoof, his step children Tammy (Laine), Susanne (Jo) and Joey his brothers John (Linda) of Salmon Arm and Don (Donna) of Blind Bay, plus 13 1/2 grandchildren and a niece Nicole and nephew Jason. Jim was pre-deceased by his mother Florence ad the recent passing of his dad Clarence “Earl” Durham, both former residents of Merritt.
Jim was born in Merritt and later moved to the Shuswap where he would spend many days farming and working at his dad’s marina. It is from this hard work that he went into building log homes for his working years, moving around to various communities as far away as Germany. Although Jim did experience some rough times in his life, good friends and family support got him through.
Then in 1998 he really settled down when he met his true love and best friend, Claudette. Together they enjoyed being members of the Old Time Fiddlers, camping, fishing, playing cards, gardening, karaoke, and traveling.
In 2002, Jim was diagnosed with lung cancer and went through three months of treatment. Sadly, the cancer had returned and he bravely kept this to himself, not because he was selfish, but to protect the ones he loved. That’s just how Jim was. He will forever be loved and remembered for his kind heart and generosity.
Jim did not want a big service, so in honour of Jim, his good friend Jai Ollek would like to invite friends and family to come join in a celebration of Jim’s life at the Adelphi Pub on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Special songs and speeches will begin at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society.
