Lott, Reginald Steven Thursday, 08 May 2008
Merritt, BC
Born in Kamloops, Steve lived a good life for 74 years. His work in the forest industry took him to locations around the Southern Interior and Cariboo, but Merritt was the place he called home.
He built many roads with his CAT & there was nothing he could not fix. He was a man of many talents, he was gifted with the ability to engineer & build. He was also musically inclined and often got the good times started with a tune on his harmonica followed by a vocal rendition of his favourite Bluegrass songs.
Left to cherish his memory 3 children; Laurie McDonald (Norm), Lila Zelinski (Darel), Lloyd (Linda) Lott; 5 grandchildren; Amy Stamp (Mike), Stacy Galbraith (Jon), Clancy Newton, Lana Newton, Lucas Lott; and 4 great-grandchildren; Liam & James Stamp and Eva & Noah Galbraith. Also left to cherish his memory his life long friend Tom and best friend Barb. Predeceased by his mother in December, 2000 and father May, 2001, and in childhood by his younger brother and sister.
His family would like to extend thanks to Dr. McLeod and the nurses at NVGH for their kindness and loving care; and to the many friends who stopped by to share time and stories with Steve.
Join us for a Celebration of Steve’s Life on May 21, 1 – 4 PM at the Lower Nicola Community Hall, 382 Aberdeen Road, Lower Nicola.
In lieu of flowers donations in Steve’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Hutton, Barbara Doreen Saturday, 03 May 2008
Merritt, BC
Oct. 22, 1930 to May 3, 2008
Barbara passed away peacefully Saturday morning with her husband Christopher by her side. Chris and Barbara had been married for more than 50 years. They met in Singapore, while working for the British Army, fell in love and remained at each other’s side for the past 50 years. Barbara and Chris travelled extensively, and lived in many countries; their daughters Pauline and Wendy were born in England, while daughter Patty and son David were both born in Africa. In 1967, the family came to Canada and started a new life together. Barbara and Chris lived in Ontario for more than 20 years, then retired and moved to Merritt in 1994.
Barbara loved many things; reading, flowers, chocolate, story-telling, playing cribbage, but mostly she loved her children and nine grandchildren: Timothy, Erin, Barbara, Robin, Robert, Christine, Ndola, Katrina, and Jenna.
A short celebration of Barbara’s life will be held Wed, May 7 at 3pm at her home in Nicola Meadows. Her family will take her ashes and say a final good-bye to Barbara at Candy Mountain, in Lower Nicola—a place she loved dearly. We will miss you mom and you will always be in our thoughts.

Born July 9, 1920 in Richibucto, N.B. passed away peacefully at home in 100 Mile House, B.C. on May 2, 2008. Predeceased by her husband Albert Victor Smith in 1993, daughter Margery Grace and grandson Rodney. Mom is lovingly remembered by her children Lorraine, Frank (Karen), Marion (Jim), George (Emelene), LaVerne (Roger) and many foster children. Grandma Mary was dearly loved by her 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her next two great-grandbabies. Mary was also a beloved Auntie Mary to many nieces and nephews.
We have lost a true pioneer, a woman of immense courage, optimism and industry. Mary and Bert homesteaded on Fox Mountain in Williams Lake in 1938, were active in the dairy industry in Armstrong 1953 to 1969 and then raised prize winning sheep at Merritt. In 1982 they retired back to the Cariboo, where they continued to be active in 4-H and community organizations.
Mom loved to cook, garden, spin, knit and crochet and was thrilled to be able to pass these skills on to others. She was a generous and helpful friend to many as well as the heart of our family. We would like to thank her wonderful friends, neighbours, support workers and medical staff who all helped Mom maintain her cherished independent lifestyle.
Service will be held at 1:00 pm May 24 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 5691 Horse Lake Rd., 100 Mile House, B.C.

Merritt, BC
In Loving Memory of Abraham John Martens (Abe) March 18, 1925 - March 23, 2008
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear, Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother & Uncle; Abe.
Born in Swift Current, Sask., one of seven boys, to Jacob and Katherine Martens. He grew up on the farm and left home at 18. In 1945 he met and married Madeline. They lived in North Battleford, Sask. Where he worked as a carpenter and a milkman. In 1956 they moved to Vancouver, B.C. Abe worked briefly in a sawmill and then went to work at a Shell service station before buying his own Shell station on Hastings St. downtown Vancouver. He sold the service station to buy a corner market in Surrey, B.C. In 1968 they adopted their only child Brenda. In 1970 they left the coast for Merritt where Abe bought the Shell service station. He employed many people who still live in Merritt today. After selling the service station he did lots of carpentry, built houses, and was even a car salesman for 1 month. He then went into business again in a store called Merritt Interior Decorating. He retired working at Merritt Building Supplies but carried on with his carpentry work until he could no longer do it anymore.
Abe liked to keep busy. He curled, sat on the board of directors at the Merritt Credit Union, and he was a member of the Elks Lodge for thirty some years. He volunteered at the church and helped remodel the bathroom and kitchen there and he was a great Hot Dog Salesman!
He loved watching every kind of sport on T.V. (except basketball) especially hockey and the Vancouver Canucks. Nothing could keep him from coffee at Tim Hortons every day.
Abe was very proud of his family and he cherished his grandchildren Kaytlynn, Tanner and Jayden. He loved to watch them play hockey and baseball.
Abe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him!
A memorial service will be held at The Trinity United Church in Merritt on Saturday March 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Tea to follow at the Elks Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Abe’s name to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
