Dinsdale, Ken Saturday, 01 Mar 2008
Merritt, BC
1958 ~ 2008
It is with immense sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of our dear husband and father, Ken Dinsdale, on Saturday morning, March 1st, after a short illness. Ken was a loving husband to Barb and a great dad to Laura and Jen. He is also survived by his parents Ron and Janet Dinsdale, and his sister Rhonda (Ken) Nichols. Ken also leaves behind a large extended family and many good friends.
To begin to describe this wonderful man and all he meant to those who knew him would be like trying to describe the universe and all its mysteries. He was a man who was no stranger to adversity and never shied away from a challenge.
Ken was one of the best telephone linemen in B.C. He loved his job and always found fun in his work. Ken was always willing to help out those in need. Fast cars and photography were passions in his life and his pictures reveal his eye for beauty in the most ordinary places. He captured thousands of images that will be etched in our hearts forever. Ken loved being outside and loved all that nature provided him. He lived his life with eternal optimism and always believed that one should never give up. Ken’s legacy is his family and friends.
Special thanks to all the nursing staff and doctors who cared for Ken during his final days at Royal Inland Hospital.
Ken, my sweet, you will be missed and forever in our hearts
A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 8th, in Gateway City Church, 163 Oriole Rd, with Pastor Len DenBraber officiating.
Donations in Ken’s memory may be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the B.C. Transplant Society.

Kippel, Katie Lamont (nee Hentschel) Tuesday, 04 Mar 2008
Courtenay, BC
May 10, 1970 - March 4, 2008
An unfinished life and still one of joy and happiness. Despite being diagnosed with cancer in 2002, Katie continued to do as much of everything she enjoyed as possible.
Her incredible voice could be heard singing in the Old Church, the Sid or at other venues around the Valley with the band she joined.
She spoke to every stranger as if they were friends and soon enough they were.
She could be found swimming in the river everyday from early May to mid Sept.
Katie enjoyed movies and “movie night with the girls”, local community theatre, and quiet nights at home with her husband Chris Kippel and her loyal dog Lucy (who was with her till the end).
By far her greatest passions were her girls, Sarah (11 yrs) and Emily (8 yrs) Lamont.
Despite a youth of exotic travels around the world, with her foreign service family including her father, Jim Hentschel, mother, Dianne Hentschel (both of Cortez Island) and her younger sister Sarah Hentschel of Vancouver. Katie always had a deep connection with the Comox Valley. Courtenay is the home of her beloved grandparents (Dr. Irv and Helen Theal) and at their home is where she spent many hot summers breaking records swimming for the Courtenay Blue Devils, sailing at the spit, and breaking hearts in her musical and theatrical pursuits. So there was little hesitation, after completing a degree at the University of Victoria, in her decision to return to the Valley and make it a permanent home for her and her beautiful girls.
Katie was a strong supporter of performing arts and sports (especially swimming) and she was an even greater supporter of Sarah and Emily. One way or another Katie made sure the girls got to their dance classes, theatre classes, music lessons, swim classes, meets, recitals, and performances. The only joy for Katie that surpassed watching her girls performing was to be on stage with them.
Since 2002 Katie has known it would probably take more than her hands to guide the girls into their adult lives and so she was infinitely grateful for the arrival of Terra Lamont, Sarah and Emily’s step mother to share this responsibility with the girls’ father Chris Lamont and step father Chris Kippel.
She will be missed by any and all that were lucky enough to know her.
Her song goes on in our hearts.
A service will be held on Friday March 14 at 3pm at the Filberg Centre in Courteny. Please wear bright blue or bring butterflies. In lieu of flowers please take the time to write on a card, back of a photo or letter some wonderful story about Katie for the girls to have (does not need to be ready for the service). Katie also requested a chance for everyone to get together and sing and celebrate all that she was and loved. Please look for this in the coming months.

My darling husband and dearest friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2008. Born in Hardiville, Alberta he will be dearly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Ettie, his faithful companion Dingo, brother Vincent Toth of Lethbridge, Alberta and his 5 children Joan (Jamie) Wood, Theresa Ledger, Deborah, Mark, and Marian (David) Swift, as well as his 11 grandchildren and many close friends.
Mike worked hard all his life - starting work at a very young age - from a counter parts person, to a fireman for 10 years and then venturing off to Picture Butte to be a grocery store owner and rancher.
Wanting to live in a warmer climate the family moved to Campbell River in 1975 where he became a motel owner and car salesman. In 1986 he retired in Comox.
Mike was know for his generous spirit and was always willing to give someone a helping hand. He was an excellent mechanic and a jack-of-all-trades. His wit and charm won the hearts of all who had the pleasure of his company. He was great at making those around him laugh.
Though Mike faced many challenges in his life he never complained. His strength and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Please join us to remember the life of this wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
