ENGSTAD, Elizabeth (Betty)
Elizabeth (Betty) Ida Engstad passed away, peacefully, with family at her side, at the age of 89, on September 9th, 2006.
Betty is lovingly remembered by sons, Philip and Peter, their wives, Carolle and Sonia and grandchildren, Tania, Tracy, Jeremy and Kai.
Betty was a graduate of the University of Victoria and spent 40-plus years teaching school in the Cariboo, Burns Lake, and in Nelson, at her beloved Hume School.
The most important things in her life were her family and the children she taught.
Often while shopping in Nelson, she would be approached and remembered by former students.
Betty had a thirst for traveling which was a life-long adventure with favorite locations being France and England, where she enjoyed live theater and music.
She also enjoyed traveling in the Kootenays and often would take friends on day-long road trips and nature walks.
A giver not a taker, she believed strongly in giving back to her community, and served on the hospital and library boards, and other volunteer organizations.
The family is tremendously grateful to the entire staff of Jubilee Manor, where she resided for her final years.
She was treated as family and received exceptional care, compassion and love from the entire staff.
A family gathering will be held to celebrate her life.
CAFFERY, Ken
Passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice on September 3rd, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine and step-children, Andre and Jan.
No funeral services.
ANNE ELIZABETH "ANNABETH" BLACK nee Cote,
October 9th, 1946 - August 23, 2006
Annabeth passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, August 23rd, after a valiant two-year battle with cancer.
She will be remembered lovingly by her husband, David, sons, Alan and Fraser, and daughters, Morgan Weathington and Catherine Black.
A service will celebrate Annabeth's life at 2pm on September 6th at St. Patrick's Parish on Haultain Street in Victoria.

KIPOT, Shirley Annette
Shirley passed away peacefully at home, with her family, on August 22, 2006.
Born June 16, 1935, she was predeceased by her parents, first husband, John Gordon, four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tony Kipot; seven sisters and her children: daughter, Colleen Johnson (Rob); granddaughter, Carmen (Steve) Archer; great-granddaughters, Sydney and Madison; daughter, Barbara Gordon (Andrew); granddaughter, Nicole; daughter, Catherine (Steve) McConnell; granddaughters, Stephanie and Margaret; son, Jack (Linda) Gordon; granddaughters, Jaclyn and Courtney; son, Terry Gordon; grandson, Erich; son, Don Gordon; grandsons, Gary and Jason.
Shirley dedicated her life to looking after others.
In addition to her family, there were often many relatives or friends that counted on her for support.
Sometimes this support came in the way of a quick phone call, a card, a home cooked meal or a place to stay.
Her home and her heart were always open to those who needed it.
Shirley was a Reiki Master and was dedicated to helping people through her healing and she cherished the time she spent with her Reiki group.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church, 10030 Third Street, Sidney, B.C., on Friday, September 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. R. Hasenack, celebrant.
Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.

Gibson, Craig William, P. Eng.
Born in Portage La Prairie, MB, on March 31, 1947; died Aug. 5, 2006, after a brief bout with cancer.
He is survived by his best friend, soulmate and wife, Beth Gibson; daughter, Tracy Dewar, granddaughters, Michelle and Marie of Yorkton, SK; son, Greg Dewar (Mari) and grandson, Neo of Sapporo, Japan; and brother, Randy Gibson (Susan) and nephew, Shane Gibson of Winnipeg, MB.
A reservoir engineer, Craig and Beth were long-time residents of Calgary, prior to moving to Indonesia, where Craig worked on a major project and where they enjoyed the ex-pats' life, before moving to Victoria, where he joined the B.C. government.
In 1998, Craig joined the B.C. Oil and Gas Commission, where he was executive director of the Technical Services and Regulatory Affairs Branch.
Craig was an avid bicyclist, diver, photographer, who enjoyed the company of his cats.
He was also a past master of the Masonic Order in Calgary and active in the Association of Professional Engineers & Geophysicists of Alberta.
Visitation for family and friends were held in the Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street, Victoria, B.C., on Wednesday August 9th, 2006 between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. Funeral service followed at 7:00 p.m.

DOBYNS, Kathleen Eady
Born February 12, 1914; died July 22, 2006 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
Survived by four children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; preceded in death by her husband, Donald Dobyns, who died on November, 1981, whom she married in 1937, in Norman, Oklahoma, following the graduation of both from the University of Oklahoma.
They immigrated to Canada in 1970, and lived the remainder of their lives in Brentwood Bay.
Kathleen was a talented musician, a generous friend and a wonderful mother.
Her enthusiasm for life touched many people, and she was always gaining new friends.
In the past several years, she attended continuing education courses at the University of Victoria, and maintained a variety of interests in the arts, social responsibilities and religion.
Services to celebrate Kathleen's life, will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 27th, at St. Mary's Anglican Church, at 1973 Cultra in Saanichton, with a reception to follow.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Council of Canadians in Ottawa, or to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, to which we owe a debt of gratitude for the wonderful support of doctors and nurses who attended to Kathleen during the last several years of her life.
DOIDGE, MABEL AUDREY
Audrey passed away on Monday, July 10, 2006.
Her family wishes to thank the nurses at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their dedication and caring manner.
A celebration of Audrey's life will be held at 1pm on Thursday, July 27th at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Fourth Street, Sidney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey's honor to either the Palliative Care Unit c/o Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation, or to the Nana Foundation for animal rescue.
