SAMUEL DREFKO
February 15, 1928 – August 18, 2009
Sam was a true "gentle" man with sky blue eyes that were always sparkling with mischievous laughter.
He cared deeply for his family, especially his grandchildren.
Sam always took time to make everyone feel special with his loving ways.
Dad loved music; both country and country gospel.
We have a lifetime of memories of our dad playing his guitar and singing.
He had a wicked yodel and taught us his love of music.
He loved to tease and laugh and would strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
Sam fought his battle with cancer with great strength and courage, and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born at Drefko Lake, near Radville, Saskatchewan, Sam was the seventh child of fifteen, born to Peter and Mary Drefko.
After his schooling, he worked for various nearby farms.
He worked at the Weyburn Mental Institute for three years, and then became a Heavy Equipment Operator.
He met and married Jeanne Taylor in 1952.
Together, they lived in Bassano, Edmonton, and Calgary, moving to Kamloops in 1965.
Sam semi-retired, but continued to help out anyone in need.
Sam was predeceased by his father, Peter, mother, Mary, brother, Paul and ex-wife/best friend, Jeanne.
He leaves to mourn brothers and sisters, John, Rose, Anthony, Zofia, William, Joseph, Annie, Johanna, Elisabeth, Helen, Michael, Olga and Margaret.
He also leaves to mourn three daughters, Bernadette (Mark Harvey), Lee Ann (Doug Methot) and Colleen (Garry Peters), grandchildren, Kris, Kevin, Meghan, Michelle, Dylan, Brendan, Jared, Brittany, Sierra, Derek and Kyle, seven great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters and over 60 nephews and nieces.
Sam’s family would like to thank the nursing staff at 3-West, Royal Inland Hospital.
Also a huge thank you to our very own "Dr." Dylan, without whose help with Dad, and Mom, we would still be lost.

Wood, Caroline Joan
Sunday, 16 Aug 2009
Joan Wood, daughter of Peter and Edith Grieser of Taber, was first and foremost, a mother of four boys, whom she loved unconditionally and gave her life too.
She was a wife to her husband, whom she loved until the day she died.
Countless people will miss Joan's ability to be a caregiver, supporter and a loving friend.
She passes away peacefully Sunday morning, at the Burnaby General Hospital, after battling breast cancer.
Joan was married to Brent Hacking Wood in 1972, at Cardston, Alberta, and enjoyed a life together, full of love and family.
Joan gave life to four boys and helped raise them into men together with Brent, the eldest being McKay 35, Tyler 26, Landon 23, Casey 19, and one grandchild, Banyan 2. After the death of Brent, she battled cancer with more vigor than seen in any other person.
She showed her family and friends her ability to commit and follow through, while never losing her optimistic nature.
She gave others the ability to let them believe they were beautiful.
She, herself, was beautiful, and always spread beauty wherever she went, both physically and emotionally.
A funeral will be held in her remembrance Friday, August 21st, at 2 pm, with a viewing of the body starting at 1pm.
The service will be held at 2170 McDougall Road, West Kelowna.
Burial service will be held in the Cardston, Alberta Cemetery on Monday, Aug 24th at 11am.
