McNaughton, Allan Dale

Allan lived in Cranbrook, B.C., from 1980 until the 1990's, when he moved to Seattle, WA.
He is survived by his father, George McNaughton of Everett, WA, & mother, Darlene Jordan of Cranbrook.
He is also survived by sisters; Kim, Alana, & Elisa; brothers; Brent, Adam & Brad, as well as many relatives & friends.
He is loved & will be sadly missed.
Memorial to take place at another date.
Drobot, Andrew Nicholas

It is with great sorrow that the family of Andrew Drobot announce his passing on February 9, 2009, at 73 years of age.
Andy was well-known in the area as a great athlete, playing hockey with the Lethbridge Native Sons, Cranbrook Selkirks, East Kootenay Rams, Nelson Maple Leafs and Cranbrook Royals. Andy also played ball with the Swanson's Men's Wear Team and soccer with the Cranbrook Rovers.
After his playing years, Andy was involved in coaching with Cranbrook Minor Hockey.
Andy retired from Cominco in 1995, after a lengthy career underground at the Sullivan Mine.
In his later years, Andy spent his time on the golf course, in his garden, spending time with family and as a season ticket holder and avid fan of the Kootenay Ice. His trips to White Swan Lake with Alan, Vic and the boys were also a big highlight.
Andy will be fondly remembered for his big heart, great sense of humour, quick wit and endless antics, as those who knew him can attest to. He will be dearly missed.
Andy is survived by his loving wife, Lynne of 50 years; sisters: Bernice (Art) Corneluson of Revelstoke, Priscilla (Gordon) Straub, Pat (Dave) Phillips, Judy, Debbie (Crawford) Law, all of Cranbrook; children: Mark (Carol), Lorna (Mike), Melody, Jennifer (Don); grandchildren: Bobbie (Ryan), Jason, Shauna, Chelsea, Kurtis, Nicole, Terra; as well as nieces and nephews and the family dog, Dekoda.
He was predeceased by his father, Nick, his mother, Kathleen and a brother, Larry.
No funeral service will be held at Andy's request.

Cherney, Harry
July 16, 1932 - Feb. 7, 2009
Harry Cherney was born on the family homestead in Gronlid, Saskatchewan, on July 16th, 1932. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 7, 2009. Harry's nickname was "Guido", which is Ukrainian for Grandpa.
Harry is survived by a large family, including his common-law wife, Sharron Moseley, and his first wife, Betty Cherney; his children: Harry, Jr. Cherney (Verna Letcher), Debbie Blais (Walter), Philip Cherney (Char), Bob Cherney (Dot Galvin), Charlene Holmgren (Leonard), Jeanine Lebsack (Jeff), and Sharron's children: Clifford Moseley, Angela Moseley and Heather Moseley (Gerry Sevenski).
He is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher Cherney (Jennifer), Nicholas Cherney (Dani), Ryan Blais (Sing), Erin Blais, Brandy Wilson, Amy Wilson (Danny), Jenny Galvin (Shayne), Jackie Galvin (Tasy), Brett and Scott Holmgren, Morgan Lebsack, Breanna Moseley, Joel Moseley, Cody Dahlman, and Tyler Dahlman; his great-grandchildren: Seth, Austin, Kelsey, Kaori, Conner, Kate, Tasia, and Sophia, as well as brothers, Alvin, Dave (Laura), Ben, and his sister, Alvina.
Harry was predeceased by his parents, John and Lena Cherney, his brothers, Bill and Reuben Cherney, and his grandson, Michael John Cherney.
Harry owned and operated Cherney Trucking. He enjoyed maintaining and servicing his truck and was often found on a weekend under or around his truck. Harry was never too busy to stop and put the coffee on for a friend. He loved his work, as if it were play and never really retired. He drove steadily until he was 75 years old.
Harry loved his dogs; they were part of the family, cuddled up on the couch with the people around. He raised domestic fowl, chickens, ducks and turkeys. He also loved gardening and travel.
During the past few years, he traveled with family members to the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
Harry was a Charter member of the Baynes Lake Lions Club, and was also a member of the Sand Creek Lions Club from 1971 to 1979. He made it one of his goals in life to bring women into the Lions club to make it more of a family orientated club. He drove from Salmo, where he was trucking, every Friday night, so he would be at the club to mix the pancakes for the club at the Baynes Lake Farmer's Market Saturday mornings, throughout the summer.
Harry will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Services were held at the Baynes Lake Community Hall on Wednesday, February 11th, with Pastor Bill Plant officiating.
Interment followed at the Baynes Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to plant a tree or put up a birdfeeder in memory of Harry, or donations may also be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Detta, Cecil Orville
November 7, 1920 - November 7, 1920
Cecil Orville Detta, born on the Detta Homestead, in the Qu Appelle Valley, 12 miles N.E. of Brownlee, Saskatchewan, on November 7, 1920, passed away peacefully at the F.W. Green Memorial Home in Cranbrook, on February 5, 2009.
Cecil worked for Teck Cominco in Trail for 30 years and was proud to say he was retired more years than he worked.
He, with his wife, Norma, lived in Rossland, British Columbia, for many years and moved to Cranbrook, in April of 1997. They lived here enjoying the many beautiful areas the East Kootenay has to offer for camping and fishing, which both he and Norma loved to do. Cecil loved country music. His favourite singers were Johnny Cash, and Don Williams. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast.
Cecil is survived by his sons: Ken (Bernice) and Keith (Helen); daughter: Linda (Jim); 5 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; plus many nieces and nephews. Cecil was predeceased by his wife, Norma, in May of 2001, his parents, 1 sister and 4 brothers.
Thank you to his caregivers at Cedar Ridge Manor, and the F. W. Green Memorial Home, where he spent his last few years missing Norma, but was content and happy due to those who took such good care of him. A very special thank you to Fran Bateman, his niece and primary caregiver, for the exceptional love, care and respect which she gave Cecil (and Norma) ever since they moved to Cranbrook, and in particular, for the companionship and support that she gave Cecil after Norma died. And, not to be forgotten, his special visits from his favourite little pup, Mitzi, with whom he shared his pocket full of "treats".
A celebration of Cecil's life will be held at the Cranbrook United Church at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 12, 2009. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in honour of Cecil, may do so to their charity of choice.

Konkin, Elna Louise
April 15, 1944 - January 26, 2009
It is with great sadness we announce the death of Elna Konkin.
She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, after a brief illness.
Survived by son, Blaine, daughter, Lori, granddaughter, Lori Anne, two sisters, two brothers, and a large extended family, both here and abroad.
A celebration of Elna's life will be held in the spring.
Schaeffer, Ira William (Bill)

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Bill Schaeffer.
Bill died at the Cranbrook Hospital at the age of 79 years.
Bill was born and raised on the family farm near Redcliff, Alberta.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Phyllis, of 55 years, and his children, Andrea (Dave), Victoria; Alan, Cranbrook. His
wonderful grandchildren; Nathan, Victoria; Steffi, Australia; Amy, Victoria; his sister, Althea Wester, Tilley, Alberta; nieces and
nephews, B.C., & Alberta.
Bill was predeceased by four brothers; John, Frank, Charlie & Alfred; three Sisters; Edna Olson, Mary Wolfe, & Annie Burns.
A memorial service & celebration of Bill's life will be announced later.

Ruault, Eleanor Ivy

Ivy Ruault passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital peacefully, on January 19, 2009, at 92 years of age.
Ivy was born and raised in Cranbrook, a place she loved dearly.
She had a great love of children and was a foster parent to several infants.
She liked gardening and animals. She was a 50 year member of the Lady Eagles.
Ivy's greatest joy was playing blackjack at the casino, where she could be seen most weekends.
Ivy was a kind and generous person who was friends with all who knew her.
Ivy is survived by her companion of many years, Tom Bradford; son, Bob (Barb) Ruault; daughter, Venie (Jim) Webster; grandchildren: Tom (Sandy) Webster, Ivy-Lynne (Dave) Stein, Lesley Ruault (Mike Landers), Mark Ruault (Paulien Van Galen); great-grandchildren: Adam Webster, Ben Stein, Miranda Webster, Mark Stein, Katie Landers, Elise Ruault and Charlotte Landers; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Severe Ruault; brothers: Bob Pattinson, Bill, Frank and Tooke Sissons; and also her parents.
A funeral service for Ivy will be held on Monday, January 26, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., in the McPherson Funeral Chapel in Cranbrook.
Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery.
