Robert Jackson

Robert Jackson passed away in Piccadilly Care Centre, Salmon Arm, B.C., on Sunday evening, February 1, 2009, at the age of 94 years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Saturday morning, February 7th, at 10:00 a.m., with Jack Bowers officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Mt. Ida Cemetery, with his boys as pallbearers.
Robert was a pioneer farmer of the Silver Creek area, having arrived in 1927.
He leaves his five sons, Bill, Don, Bruce, Murray and George.
Memorial donations may be sent to the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm.
Jackson, Thomas Syme
November 21, 1916 - January 31, 2009
Born in Kippen, Scotland, November 21, 1916, Tommy immigrated with his family in 1926, settling in the Salmon Valley.
In 1943, he purchased his own farm and the next year, bought his first Hereford cattle.
This was the start of Sunnymont Herefords.
In the early part of Tommy's farming career, he broke heavy horses to sell and also for his own use, farming and logging.
With these earnings, he increased his cow herd and built the Sunnymont name.
In 1950, he married Dorothy Jewell and together, they raised four children.
As well as being known for his cattle, he was also known for the raising and training of his border collie dogs.
Throughout his life, Tommy was happiest working his cattle with his border collie dogs, which were always by his side.
Tommy was active in the community with 4-H, the S.A. Fall Fair, and became a premiere Hereford breeder, consigning top quality animals to many Hereford sales and shows.
His first marriage ended in 1980, and he later married Doreen Francis.
Together, they continued to farm and in 1991, was inducted onto the Canadian Hereford Honor Roll.
After many years of herding cattle on horseback, he and his great dog, Max, would bring cows home off Fly Hills Range, Tommy in his pick-up, and Max herding the cows down the road home.
He finally retired from farming in 2003, and together, they moved to Vernon.
Tommy passed away peacefully January 31, 2009, at the age of 92 years, after a short stay at Gateby Care Home.
He was predeceased by his brother, David, in 1968, and his grandson, Derek Bostock, in 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Doreen, and his four children: Allan, Audrey (Art), Carrie (Keith), Dawna (Rob); stepsons: Gordon (Dianne), Bobby (Lynn), Ken, Tom (Patty), Donny (Shirley), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Brothers: Robert, George; sisters: Hetty, Tina (Ralph), Cathy (Ralph).
A service will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at Knox Presbyterian Church, in Vernon.
Hudson, "Ken" James Kenneth

HUDSON, "Ken" James Kenneth, on January 30, 2009, in Kamloops, B.C., at the age of 82 years.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Thomas & Gertrude (nee Steele), and two brothers, Raymond and Alfred.
He is survived by his sister, Audrey Peterson of Sicamous, B.C., sisters-in-law, Vi Hudson and Marie Hackett, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 9, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., from the Creekside Seniors Centre, old O.A.P.O. Hall, Chase, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ken's name may be made to the SPCA, 1211 8th Street, Kamloops, B.C. V2B 2Y3.

Margot passed away at home on Friday, January 30, 2009.
Love was all around her.
She had been living courageously with cancer for over six years.
Left to cherish her memory, are her life companion, Melany; her brothers and sisters, Blair, Myra, Bill, Marsha, Stephen, David, Robyn and their families; her large extended family; Richard Hewitt, and many dear friends and colleagues.
Margot is predeceased by her father, Glen Thomas and by her mother, Marion Thomas (Garraway).
Margot was born in Vancouver, the eldest of eight children.
She was always very dedicated to her family, helping nurture and support her siblings, and guiding her nieces and nephews as they grew up.
She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Education, and with a Master of Arts in Education.
During her career as an educator, Margot taught students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
She was a music teacher, a Learning Resource teacher, a District Coordinator of Special Education, a Vice-Principal at Shuswap Junior Secondary School, and a Principal at North Shuswap Elementary School.
Margot was well-loved, respected, and appreciated, because of her intelligence, her vision, and her absolute commitment to quality public education for young people.
Margot was an accomplished musician.
She found great joy in choral singing and generously shared her extensive knowledge of and passion for sacred music.
Her family has deep roots in the area and she loved her Shuswap home.
She was an influential community leader and helped shape a vision for the future of the South Shuswap as the founder of the South Shuswap Property Owners Association and as a long-time member of many CSRD committees.
Her love of the Shuswap meant more than simply enjoying its beauty, it meant working steadfastly to protect its ecological integrity.
Margot's happiest times were spent on her sheep farm, a dream that she and Melany made real.
She had a tremendous compassion for animals and was known for adopting older dogs from the SPCA.
The cats, dogs, sheep, donkeys, and horses at Old Orchard Farm are among the most loved of animals anywhere.
Margot's home was always alive with the warmth of friendship, as she loved to have friends and family around her.
Special thanks to Celia, Eldene, Jan, Irma, and Richard for such deep love and support especially during the last week of Margot's life.
Thanks also to the very generous support of Margot's family, her colleagues, and friends.
Particular thanks to Dr. E. Hardy, Dr. K. Gelmon, and Dr. C. Malinowski.
Margot lived a full and passionate life.
We are less without her and yet so much more because of her.
A service will be held at St. Mary's Church, Sorrento on Saturday, February 7, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow at the Sorrento Centre.

Romyn, Adrianus Leonardus
October 21, 1923 - January 27, 2009
Adrian Romyn passed away peacefully at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on January 27, 2009, at the age of 85 years.
The funeral service was held from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Salmon Arm, on Friday, January 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with Father George La Grange, OMI, as the Celebrant.
The eulogy was read by Adrian's daughter, Anne Doidge.
Music was provided by Catherine Kroetch.
Cremation followed, and the interment will take place at a later date in the family plot at Notch Hill Cemetery.
Adrian was born in Noordwijkerhout, Holland, on October 21, 1923.
Adrian and Margaret moved to Vernon, in 1952, and then to Salmon Arm, in 1957.
They moved to Notch Hill, in 1960, where they farmed for 35 years.
Adrian was also a millworker at local lumber mills.
Adrian and Margaret moved to the Shuswap Lodge Retirement Residence in 2005.
Adrian is predeceased by brothers and sisters, Nell, Henk, Annie and Pete and also, son-in-law, George Douglas.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret at the Shuswap Lodge; children, Anne Doidge of Edmonton, AB, Adrian (Marianne) of Notch Hill, John of Edmonton, Jack (Laura) of Salmon Arm, Tina Douglas of Sicamous, Lola (Gary) Cochrane of Calgary, AB; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters living in Holland, Kees, Nely, Ria, Jan, Rika and Jo.

Nore, Roy Arnold

Roy Arnold Nore passed away on January 26, 2009 at the age of 92 years.
A prairie boy born in Kyle, Saskatchewan, he came to the Shuswap area immediately after the war, where he worked as a heavy duty mechanic.
Throughout his career, he moved to several B.C. communities, but spent his retirement years, living in Chase.
Roy was one of the founding members of Ducks Unlimited in Salmon Arm, and was also an active member of the Lions Club, Royal Canadian Legion and the B.C. Wildlife Foundation.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking and tying flies when he wasn't out enjoying the wilderness.
Roy was predeceased by his wife, Blanche, daughter, Diane and granddaughter and is survived by three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Pioneer Lodge on Thursday, January 5, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a tea at the Mountainside Room, Bowers Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roy may be made to Ducks Unlimited or the charity of your choice.

Woodyatt, Evelyn
July 14, 1917 - January 24, 2009
Evelyn Dorothy Woodyatt, born July 14, 1917, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2009, in Surrey, B.C.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Austin; much-loved mother of Barbara and Christopher; grandmother of Karen, Mark, Stephanie, Becky and David & great-grandmother.
She was a long-time resident of Westminster House in Surrey, and we give thanks to all of the staff for their love and care provided all these years.
A Celebration of Evelyn's Life was held at Westminster House, 1653-140 Street, Surrey on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 2 p.m.
