Anna Amealia (Stadeus) Haggstrom
March 22, 1925 - April 4, 2009
Anne was born in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, to Alfonse and Marie (Gerregat) Stadeus.
During the lengthy illness and early passing of her mother in 1938, Anne raised her three younger siblings.
This family stayed united by the strength of Anne and throughout their childhood, called her mother, sister and friend.
A couple wanted to adopt the youngest, Bertha, however, Anne stood between all adults concerned and young Bertha stayed with the family.
She married Ernest Haggstrom in 1944, and lived the early years of their marriage in Vancouver.
In 1957, they began building a split level home in Richmond.
The kids all refer to it as the home that "Mom" built.
Ernie and Anne were divorced in 1966.
Anne moved to Hope, B.C., and met her partner of 21 years, Alexander Curby.
Together, they moved to Vanderhoof, where Anne owned and operated the Alpine Bakery and began farming.
With Alex helping with the framing and structuring, Anne farmed sheep and built up a herd.
They moved to a larger property and with Alex helping again with the structuring and Anne looking after the sheep, her herd grew to about 300 ewes, 450 lambs at lambing time.
It came time to rest and in 1986, together they began the move to the countryside near Smithers.
In 1987, Anne was widowed. For the last 21 years, she enjoyed frequent visits with her families in Canada, United States and Belgium and her family and friends in the Bulkley Valley.
Anne is predeceased by her infant brother, Roger Stadeus; sister, Clara Villiard; husband, Alex Curby; brother, Albert Stadeus; grandchild, Nathan Hanasyk and son-in-law Richard Lester.
She is survived by her sister: Bertha Flueck; her four children Germaine Taylor; Sonja Lester; Vern (Lori) Haggstrom and Gail (Gordon) Hanasyk; grandchildren, Larry (Kate Aurebach) Lester, Richard (Gabrielle Lester-Sarafini) Lester and Jenny (Mark Thibeault) Lester; Jennifer (John) Martin, Tracy (Eric) Cox, Mike (Sharon) Haggstrom and Lexi Haggstrom; Aaron (Amanda) Hanasyk, Brandon and Amy Hanasyk and 13 great-grandchildren.
Thank you to the staff and friends at The Meadows for the enjoyment you brought to Anne at her apartment and a special thank you to Dr. Flynn for the great care and concern.
The angels in heaven are rejoicing at your coming!
