Todd William Mikkelsen
September 30, 1963 - December 10, 2008
Todd William Mikkelsen ended his earthly adventure at home in the arms of his family, on Wednesday, December 10, 2008.
Todd was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme in August of this year and fought it as only Todd could; with everything he had. We were blessed to have him for as long as we did.
Todd was born September 30, 1963 in Williams Lake, B.C. He is survived by his soulmate Lisa, daughters, Brittany (20), Courtney (18) and Gracie (11). His father, Delbert, Terrace, mother, Carol Mikkelsen and step-father. Ray Carlaw, Salmon Arm, B.C.; brother Raymond (Sandra) Whitehorse YK; half-sister, Brenda (Chris) Jensen, Whitehorse, YK; mother-in-law, Mary Harrison; Edmonton, AB; Uncle Mike (Maureen) Green; Fort McMurray, AB; Uncle Gordon (Allana) Green Prince George; Aunt Delores Spelchan, Armstrong B.C.; Aunt Helen Hayes, Toronto ON; Aunt Cathy Hayes, Willims Lake; sisters-in-law, Rosetta (Darrell) Jensen, Armstrong B.C.; Rosanna Taylor and brother-in-law, David Rorison, Edmonton AB. Many cousins, nieces and nephews. Todd was predeceased by his youngest brother Peter (14) in 1979.
Todd was raised in Williams Lake and graduated from grade 12 then lived in Salmon Arm and graduated from grade 12 (for the second time) on the University program. He moved to the Yukon and shortly after was involved in a serious industrial accident. He took a year off and attended SFU. The call of the Yukon took him back and this is when he met his wonderful soul mate Lisa. He continued the log home building trade for another couple of years. In 1990 he moved his family back to Salmon Arm and worked for several log home building companies. Their third daughter Gracie was born in Salmon Arm to complete his family.
Once again the Yukon beckoned and the family moved back to Whitehorse where he worked for his brother Raymond's Yukon Alaska Log Homes.
In 2002, an opportunity came to teach a log home building course in Terrace. Todd and Lisa soon realized the chance to start on his dream of operating and having his own company. Through contacts he made over the years he was able to expand into exporting to many places around the world. Great North Pacific Log Homes built and shipped homes and lodges to Alaska, Germany, Japan, California and Russia. Todd was able to travel and set the buildings up. Several homes and lodges were built for Kitimat and Terrace. He took great pride in the carvings he created that adorn the ridge poles.
His greatest pride was always his family and the love he had for them. He was a quiet man, a big man with a big heart who had a love for the people in his life. He is now on a big adventure with his brother and Jesus and took his family's love with him into eternity. His motto is monument to his skills 'I take Pride in my Workmanship"
