In 1968, he and Stephanie moved from Winnipeg to Lockport where they enjoyed country living. He was active at the Notre Dame church in Selkirk as well as the Gordon Howard Seniors Centre. Their family cottage at Caddy Lake was often overflowing with friends and relatives who were always made to feel welcome. Alex loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening or walking in the woods gathering wild berries and mushrooms. Alex was blessed with remarkably good health, his philosophy was, never go to a doctor because they will always find something wrong with you, it worked for him as his health didn't seriously decline until the age of 89. In March, 2001, Alex moved to B.C. to be with his children and he never tired of looking at the mountains. At Alex?s request, a private family service was held, followed by cremation.
