KURZ, Arthur Edgar "Art"
(Feb. 24, 1923 - April 16, 2009)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Kurz.
Art was born on February 24, 1923, in Central Butte, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully at Royal Columbian Hospital on April 16, 2009.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lila, of 52 years; children: Bud (Heidi), Alana Nordstrand (Doug), Karl (Ellen), and Eileen Burke (Mike); grandchildren: Emily, Celina, Brett, Amber, Kaya, Tara, Angela, and Ryan.
He attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, in 1940-41; then taught at Grand View School to the end of 1941, when he enlisted in the RCAF, and was stationed in Canada from 1942 - 45.
After his discharge, he attended U.B.C. and received a BA in 1949, and a BEd in 1954.
Art will be best remembered as a teacher in Yarrow, from 1953 to 1983, and anyone who grew up there during that time, probably had Mr. Kurz as a teacher.
Who can forget the way Mr. Kurz told kids to get to class (now!), his crew cut, a different tie everyday, or leading Barker House in its house song?
Art also put in many volunteer hours during his 19 years on the Yarrow Water Board, and was a member of the Chilliwack Kinsmen.
Art and Lila had only recently moved to the Residences at Belvedere in Coquitlam, this past September.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 27th, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the Burkeview Chapel, 1340 Dominion Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C. (next to Art Knapp's).
Our thanks to Dr. Michael Paletta and staff at RCH for the care provided to Art over the past month.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

It is with great sadness, yet a sense of peace, that we announce the passing of our son, Kevin Ryan Holub, at the age of 28 years. Kevin had many challenges throughout his lifetime that he battled with courage, strength, determination and acceptance. Throughout it all, he never lost his love of life and his wicked sense of humour.

In 2003, he moved to Jasper House (CSCL) where he lived with his friend, Paul Kerr.
Here, he was supported by a team of caring individuals who have become extended family. They will always have a special place in our hearts. Throughout his life, Kevin was involved with numerous health care providers. We want to give special thanks to Dr. C. Kerr and to Vinge and Associates (Vadim, Gus, Brian and the rest of the nursing team). Above all, we want to acknowledge CSCL for being willing to take the risk.
Kevin is predeceased by his grandparents, Raymond Gaetz and Frank and Mary Holub. He will be deeply missed by his parents, Bob and Elaine and his brother Paul. He will also be remembered by his Nana, Mary Gaetz, his Aunt Cathy (Peter) Chisholm, Uncle Michael Gaetz, and Aunt Kathy (Stu) Harper and cousins, Andrew, Jennifer, Krista and Lian.
