GREEP, Joyce
(Feb. 13, 1922 - April 8, 2009)
On April 8, 2009, Joyce peacefully passed away at the age of 87.
She is predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Jim Greep in 2002.
She leaves behind and will be fondly remembered by three daughters: Brenda (Tom), Dorothy (Larry), Joyce (Dick); son, Doug (Jackie); many grand- and great-grandchildren; as well as many friends inlcuding Bob and Teddy Harris and family, and Gary and Rita Young and family.
Memorial Service will be held at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vedder on April 16, 2009 at 11 a.m.
Johnson, Leonard Charles
August 27, 1920 - August 15, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Charles Johnson on August 15, 2009 at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C.
Len was born in Kamloops on August 27, 1920 and lived at Vinsulla, north of Kamloops. He is survived by his daughter Betty Peters (Norm) and his son Glenn Johnson (Rosalee), grandsons Leroy Peters (Bernadine) and Lennard Johnson (Orlena), granddaughter Sandra Johnson and great-grandchildren Jessica and John Peters, Spencer Johnson, and Shelby, Taylor and Cassie Johnson. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Lucy Johnson, his three brothers, Dick, George and Ed, his wife Doris of 51 years in 1994 and his grandson, Dale Peters in 1995.
Len married Doris Devick in 1943 and ranched at Sullivan Valley from 1943 to 1956 where their two children were born. In 1956 they moved to Rayleigh so the children could attend public school. Len worked at the Kamloops Stockyards and for the B.C. Government on rodent patrol covering a large area of the interior of B.C. He also farmed and owned property at Heffley Lake and eventually moved to Heffley Lake in 1971 where he and Doris had built a new home.
Len was a charter member of the North Thompson Fall Fair beginning in 1949; a 4-H member and leader competing in the Provincial Winter Fair; a contributor to the Williams Lake Bull Show and Sale and a volunteer at the Kamloops Provincial Bull Sale and Fat Stock Show; a member of the B.C. and Canadian Hereford Association; a member of the B.C. Cattlemen's Association; and secretary-treasurer of the Kamloops Stockmen's Association.
Len was a pitcher for many years in the North Thompson and Kamloops softball leagues, as well as a minor ball and hockey coach. He was an avid gardener all his life picking up seeds and plants whenever he travelled bringing them home to plant in his gardens. He was very dedicated to his family ensuring they were provided for well into the future by educating them about the grassroots of agriculture including raising livestock, growing vegetables and flowers.
A celebration of life will take place at Glenn Johnson's home at Heffley Lake at 6225 Lake Bay Road on Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m.
A special thank you to the nurses on 6 South and 3 West at Royal Inland Hospital for taking care of Grampa these last few weeks.

Marietta Grace Katherine (May) Fleming
September 20, 1927 - August 12, 2009
Memorial Service - A gathering to celebrate and remember the life of May Fleming will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Barriere Seniors' Centre, Barriere, B.C.
May Fleming of Barriere, B.C. passed away at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, B.C. on August 12, 2009, with her family by her side. She was 81 years of age. Predeceased in November, 2008 by her loving husband Andy, May is survived by her five children, Eileen (Keith) Gilbert of Vernon, B.C., Linda Newberry of Calgary, AB, Rhoda (Robert) Cochran of Williams Lake, B.C., Rita (Sandy) Proulx of Williams Lake, B.C., and John (Leila) Fleming of Chase, B.C., eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Melvin Thomsen of Wainwright, AB, and her sisters Rhoda Garstad or Coronation, AB, Ivy Homan of Nampa, AB, and Nora Thomsen of Wainwright, AB.
May was born in Veteran, Alberta on September 20, 1927. As a young woman during the war years she was employed in a jeans factory, bakery, hospital kitchen, and assisted the war effort by folding parachutes in an aircraft facility. In 1947 she married her sweetheart Andy and after a few years in the Alberta foothills, moved to B.C., finally settling in Barriere in 1962, where together they raised their five children.
She was an active community member, involved in the Ladies Auxiliary, Legion Branch 242, and the Cadets. May competed in the B.C. Summer Games in Kelowna in 1980 and in Comox in 1981, winning a silver medal at both competitions for horseshoes. She enjoyed the Darts Club, where she won many trophies. She owned and operated her own small business as May's Wool Shop.
Even in her senior years, May was undaunted by the electronic age, and became proficient with computers, knitting machines, embroidery and sewing machines. She also made many beautiful handmade quilts for her family and friends. May was tremendously proud of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making each one feel special. She will be remembered for her courage, dedication, kind heart and generous spirit. She will be forever missed.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Clare and the staff of the Barriere Medical Clinic and the staff at the Royal Inland Hospital for their outstanding care.
A service to remember the life of May Fleming was held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009 in the Seniors Hall, Barriere, B.C. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Marietta Fleming to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C., 201-635 Victoria St., Kamloops, B.C., V2C 2B3. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to North Thompson Funeral Services, Barriere, B.C.
Lorraine Mayovsky

Suddenly on August 8, 2009, Lorraine left us at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband Paul Mayovsky in 1992. Left to mourn is her son Jerry (Alice) and her long-time companion Hazel Bigham; seven grandchildren, Tammy (James) Thompson, Tracy (Dennis) Bekker, Trina (Jim) Tardif, Jean (Herb) Smith, Doug (Jill) Prowse, April (Eddy) Chase and Kevin (Kim) Prowse; nineteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren .
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Barriere Royal Canadian Legion (lower level).

MILDRED CURTIS (GENIER)
March 31, 1913 - July 30, 2009
Mildred Curtis, age 96 died at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 30, 2009. She was born on March 31, 1913 in Kamloops, to North Thompson pioneers Gilbert and Adeline Genier.
Upon completion of elementary school in Barriere, she attended St. Ann's Academy in Kamloops.
In 1945, Mildred moved to the United States and became a registered nurse.
In December of 1972, Mildred married Carl T. Curtis, a United States Senator from Nebraska.
For the next seven years, they divided their time between Nebraska and Washington D. C.
In 1979, Mildred and Carl left political life and retired in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband Carl in 2000.
Also predeceased by sisters Orie Stevens, Tess Alder, Jean Gilbert and Tilly Bowland, brothers Wilfred Genier, Joseph Genier, Arthur Genier and Alexander Genier.
Survived by many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States.
Mildred would always grace our family gatherings in Kamloops and Barriere.
She was very supportive of her family and never forgot her roots.
A graveside service was held in Minden, Nebraska on August 5, 2009.
Coffin, Bernard George
March 26, 1928 - July 27, 2009
Bernie was born March 26, 1928, in Simpson, Saskatchewan, and passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009, at Overlander Extended Care in Kamloops, B.C., at the age of 82.
Predeceased by his father Chester, his mother Mildred, his stepmother Lillian, his wife Sheila in 2000, grandson Kristian Coffin, and granddaughter Kyla Savage.
Survived by his sons Michael (Marie) Coffin of Abbotsford and Randy (Elaine) Coffin of Surrey; his daughters Donna (Alan) Richardson of Barriere, and Julie (David) Savage of Kamloops; thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Bernie married Sheila in August 1956. He worked for over 30 years in the forest industry. He also owned and operated two motels, one in Clinton, B.C., and one in Barriere, B.C., until 1982.
Bernie loved gardening, sports, especially hockey. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his favourite things.
The family wish to express their gratitude to the staff at Overlander Extended Care - Blueberry Lane for the loving care and attention that they gave to Bernie.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday, July 31, 2009, in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street.

Lyons, Edwin Walter
September 1, 1917 - July 17, 2009
Edwin Walter Lyons passed away on July 17, 2009, at the Kamloops Hospice Home, after a brief struggle with cancer.
He was 91 years old.
Ed was born on September 1, 1917, in Bernard, Saskatchewan.
At a young age, he moved with his family to Penticton, where he received all his schooling, worked in the family orchard, and enjoyed many fun times on Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake.
As a young man, Ed started working for Getty Shoes and that job led to a retail shoe career that lasted over 35 years.
Ed owned stores in Nelson and Cranbrook retiring in 1973 and settling in Cranbrook.
In his retirement years, Ed continued to enjoy the winter home in Yuma, extended motorhome trips and spending time with his family.
He and Colleen were never content to stay very long in one spot and they lived in various homes in Nelson, Cranbrook, Kootenay Lake, Kaslo, Scotch Creek, Kamloops and Barriere, where they have lived since 2004.
Ed lived a full and rich life.
He loved to entertain and with his wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed nothing better than a party with family, friends and total strangers.
Everyone was welcome at the Lyons' home.
He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and traveling.
Ed is survived by his wife and best friend, Colleen, and six children. Barbara (Ben) Falasca of Cranbrook, Diane (Bill) Calder of Cranbrook, Harold (Laurie) of Kamloops, Bob (Catharine) of Barriere, Allan of Balfour and Lloyd (Marilyn) of Calgary.
He is also survived by a sister Florence, twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, three nieces and a nephew. He will also be missed by his beloved golden retriever, Buddy.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Dora Lyons, two brothers, (Chester and Lloyd) and a sister Evelyn.
At Ed' s request, there will be no formal service.
The family is hosting a celebration of Ed's life in Cranbrook at the home of Bill and Diane Calder, at 1629 Staple Crescent, on August 1, at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Marjorie Willoughby Memorial Hospice Home, 72 Whiteshield Crescent South, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9.
