Allen, Mabel Eleanor (Nee Fraser)
November 12, 1927 - June 5, 2009
Mabel Eleanor (Nee Fraser) Allen, born November 12, 1927, passed peacefully away on June 5, 2009 in Kamloops, after a brief battle with cancer.
Mabel went to the Lord to join her husband, McGarry (2000) and son Michael (1977) as well as three babies who died in infancy.
Our mother and our "Marnie" will be so missed by her children, Jeanne (Barre), Michael (Cheryl), Kathleen (David), Patrick (Barbie), Maureen (Sandy), Geri (Jack), Joanna (Derek), Tracy (Mitch) and George (Christie).
Mabel leaves behind 36 adoring grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mabel also mothered a niece, Leslie Fennell (Langdon) and three nephews, Joe Langdon, Tommy Langdon and David Williams through part of their teen years.
Mabel was born and lived all of her life on or near Adams Lake. She was the eldest of three children born to Jessie and David Fraser. Mabel is survived by her brother Ink (Frank) Fraser.
Mabel attended St. Ann's Academy in Kamloops for her senior high school years. She then taught school briefly in Louis Creek.
She married McGarry Allen on November 26, 1946, and moved to Brennan Creek on the shores of Adams Lake, where she lived for the next 68 years.
Together, Mac and Mabel raised their family, built their company, M. Allen Logging, and established the community of Brennan Creek.
Mabel was a proud and very active member of the Catholic Women's League over the years and filled many positions on the CWL executive.
Mabel loved to travel and did so extensively, usually accompanied by Mac and numerous children and grandchildren. She played a great game of golf and was a formidable opponent in the poker game. She never missed a wedding, baptism or graduation celebration and always looked beautiful in a gorgeous new outfit for the occasion.
Her huge and loving family and many close friends whom she leaves behind will not soon forget her gentle, but insistent prodding, to get ourselves tidied up and into the car in order not to be late for the Mass at a nearby church where her family so often filled half the pews.
Memorial donations can be made in Mabel's name to Covenant House, Vancouver or to the Kamloops Hospice Association.
Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Scared Heart Cathedral.
The Reverend Father Nicholas Forde, OMI, will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral on Thursday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m.
