She was very thrifty and gave much of her time, but NOT her money to her family.
To quote from one of her last letters, "I do not believe that we should lavish money on our young ones - that gives them the idea that money grows on trees; and 'an easy voyage down stream does not make a good sailor'!"
Mother did a lot of traveling to Hawaii, Mexico, California, Ontario, and a cruise through the Panama Canal.
She also spent a month in Peru, and climbed along with her son, John, to the top of Machu Pechu.

She appreciated all musical presentations at Haven Hill.
Mom was a great square dancer and always attended the Square Dance Jamboree in Penticton in the '60s, '70s, and '80s.
She also taught square dancing and in part, attributed her long life to keeping physically active.
She was a good curler and bowler and loved watching her grandsons play Slow Pitch.
She played baseball on a boy's team at Oliver School in her youth.
Mom, at 93, had the distinction of being the oldest competitor from Penticton, and was very proud of the medals she won at the B.C. Seniors' Games.
Mom had a quick wit and loved a good joke.
She will always be remembered for her wonderful stories and sharp humour and wise sayings.
