TERAMURA, Yoshio
Wednesday, August 19, 2009
On August 19, 2009, Yosh passed away with the same bravery and dignity that he lived his life. In a lifetime, one seldom meets more than one or two people like Yosh Teramura. Packed into his solid frame, hidden behind his steady brown eyes and tucked under his Buckwheat hair-do - dwells a Man for all Seasons. A man who can smoke a turkey over an open fire; fix a car muffler with a tomato soup can; catch a fish with a bent pin; carve a museum quality piece out of scrap wood; wire a house; captain a boat; cook a meal fit for a king on a camp stove during a power failure; tie any knot ever dreamed up; fix a fishing net in record time; whip a rope; sink in salt water; sharpen the bejesus out of any knife; fix complicated computer programs; raise three boys; hit a mean golf ball; replicate exactly any meal he has ever loved; feed a hoard at the drop of a hat; build anything that can be drawn; draw the plans for a house; plant a garden; drive for 'pink slips'; play a mean game of pool; be a famous "bad boy" in Steveston in a town full of famous "bad" boys; make sushi for a large wedding; be a great friend;
remain loyal to his wife; keep old friends close; and champion his family.
This is Yoshio: he reads cook books for pleasure, carves in his car, keeps his stash of saved wood safe from interlopers, still takes calls from "work" to sort out problems, and drives his Harley about his beloved property. This is a man to honour and love - a man of so many talents, so much creativity, and such a generous spirit - we are blessed to know him, we dine well at his table. Yosh is survived by his eclectic family: his wife of 39 years and best friend, Sandi, his sons Corey, Colin (Kristi), Eric (Rhonda); his grandchildren Emiko, Riley, Hayden, Nia, Beckett, Ronin; his brother Ken and sister Kay and their families. A culinary gathering honoring Yosh's life will take place at Ladner Harbour Park, 4905 McNeely's Way, Ladner, Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Services will begin promptly. In keeping with the spirit of Yosh, please bring a sampling of your favorite dish to share with family and friends (in lieu of flowers bring good food).

Mar 6, 1944 - Aug 15, 2009
Flo Reid, a long-time Richmond resident, passed away at the age of 65, after a brief battle with colon cancer. She was born in Nelson, B.C., to Gunnar & Palma Johnson. At the age of eight, Flo and her older brother Don were welcomed into Jim and Hazel Clark's family. Most of Flo's childhood was spent in Kamloops and she later moved to Vancouver to attend the Vancouver Vocational Institute, where she met her future husband, Doug. They married in 1965 and had two children, Doug & Denise Doug's work as an air traffic controller took them many places, including Ottawa, Prince Rupert, Penticton, Clearbrook and finally to Richmond in 1971. During these early years Flo ded-=p
icated herself to caring for her family. She re-entered the workforce once both children were in school, first working for a Richmond law firm, then in various administrative positions with McGavin's Bread.
Flo was generous and kind-hearted and the door to her immaculate home was always open to family and friends, whether it was for a night, a weekend or months at a time. She was known for her large family dinners, often with 30 people seated around the rec room ping pong table enjoying a wonderful meal. Her lemon cheesecake and turkey stuffing were legendary. Flo was independent, intelligent, quiet and had a wicked sense of humour. She knew the answers to just about any crossword puzzle and was usually the guaranteed winner at word games like Scrabble. She loved to read and always had a stack of library books on her bedside table. She enjoyed travelling and the occasional night out at the casino.
