KIMMEL, Doris

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ing-May (Doris) Kimmel at the WCGH on Friday, August 5, 2011 with Julie and Dave by her side. Doris was predeceased by her parents Lydia and Ingwall Sundquist, her loving husband Russell Kimmel, and her daughters Susan and Lisa. Doris is survived by her brother Sonny Sundquist, her niece and nephews. Doris was born in Vancouver, grew up in Port Alberni, met Russell and married. Russell and Doris had property at Sproat Lake, many happy memories were made there. Doris was active in the community; she was a member of Hospital Auxiliary, for many years she served as a Brownie Leader and was the announcer for the Horse competitions at the Fall Fair, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion, Somass Branch 169 and helped on numerous occasions. Doris loved her daily walks, going to the barn to feed the horses, the chickens and the geese. Doris had many friends in the neighbourhood and the “HORSE” community. Doris will be sadly missed by Julie, Dave, family and friends. There is no service by request; however there will be a gathering of friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Doris’ memory may be made to the local SPCA.

McDOWALL, Leonard (Len)

Born August 28, 1942 in Birkenhead, England; died suddenly November 27, 2010. Len has resided in Port Alberni since he was six years old. Len was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Winnie McDowall and his sisters Patricia Paxton and Norma Nuttall (Massop). Len is survived by his son Darren (Carol) Cutforth and his grandchildren Braiden and Emily, his brother John (Patricia) McDowall and his sister Ann Chandler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Len will be dearly missed by his large but very close-knit family as well as his many friends. Len worked as an equipment operator in numerous locations, retiring from JW Berry Trucking after 20+ years. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kin Hut on the Fair Grounds (4102 Hollywood) Saturday December 4, 2010 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Yates Funeral Service, Port Alberni entrusted with arrangements.

MORAS, Richard Valentien

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Valentien Moras on February 03, 2012 at West Coast General Hospital. Richard is survived by his loving wife of many years Dorothy Wilson, his children Thomas Paul (Marsha Thomas) and Richard Moras Jr. (Angel Point), Laura Moras (Trevor Olsen), and Gina and Terry Amos; and his sister Mary-Lee Tucker as well as his many Grandchildren, TrudyLynn Paul, Thomas Paul, Jr., Matthew Paul, Blake Paul, Brandi Charles, Ricky Moras, Jeremy Martin, Jr., Cassandra Martin, Ashley Martin, Bradley Moras, Danielle Francis, Toni Francis, Ricardo Francis, Chelsea Amos, and Marco Amos. Richard was predeceased by his mother Dorothy (McDougall) and his father Enrico Moras, his daughter Jeannette Moras, his Grandson Desmond Martin and his brother Roger Moras. Richard was born January 5, 1944 in Port Alberni to Dorothy and Enrico Moras. Richard worked his way up in the logging industry and for the majority of his time worked for M & B at Sarita Division. Richard enjoyed fishing, spending many hours on the “Sarita Dawn”. Richard loved to tell stories to his family and many friends. There will be a Memorial Service on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Yates Funeral Chapel – 4470 Gertrude Street, followed by a luncheon.

PLEY, Frans
January 19, 1944 – June 27, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frans Pley. After a brief battle with cancer, he passed peacefully at West Coast General Hospital with family at his side. Frans was predeceased by his parents, Willem and Margaret, brothers Gys and Bill and brothers-in-law Martin Semkiw and Jack Campbell. He is survived by Judy, his loving wife of 42 years, son Steve (Brenda), daughters Shawndy (Duane), Stacie (Bud), his pride and joy – his grandchildren Michael, Bryce, Kelsey, Caity, Opa’s little cowgirl Sophie and his best buddy Rambo; his brothers Gerrit (Gina), Evert (Anne), Paul (Marilyn), his sisters Gretel (John), Nellie, Willie (Ron), sister-in-laws Annie and Marie Pley and Laurie Campbell, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Frans was born in Barneveld, Netherlands; in 1953 at the age of 9, with his family immigrated to Taber, Alberta; and then on to Port Alberni in August of that year. Over the years Frans tried many ventures, but ultimately his passion for the great outdoors led him to a career in the forest industry. Frans was a self taught, self made man with many hobbies and interests. Some of Frans’ greatest joys were quad rides with his best buddy Rambo, monkey wrenching in his shop, walks with his grandchildren, coffee with family and friends on the porch and maintaining his “unlimited” supply of firewood. In later years, his days were devoted to maintaining and managing Galaxy Way Campground; this brought many new friends into his life. Frans will be forever remembered and never forgotten for his sense of humor, his devotion to family and friends and his ability to make you smile. There will be a private family graveside service. Friends are invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” for Frans – Sunday, July 10th, 2011 at 1:00 PM – Galaxy Way Campground (bottom of McKenzie Road). Please bring a chair. SIDDALL, James Garner
1944 – 2011

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Siddall on July 8, 2011 at Nanaimo Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a brief battle with cancer. Jim was predeceased by his parents James and Alice Siddall. He leaves his wife Ann, his children Lisa (Golding) of Chemainus, Derek (Laura) of Port Alberni, Andrew (Desiree) of Calgary, Alberta and Nicole (Rob) of Calgary, Alberta; his Grandchildren Josh, Paige, RJ, Gabe and Warren; his sister Alice (Mike) of Vancouver and his nephews Roland and Stephen. Jim was born and raised in Port Alberni; after extensive travelling he re-settled in Port Alberni with his family. Jim worked at the paper mill until his retirement in 2005. Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service as per Jim’s request; however a gathering to celebrate his life will be held with family and close friends in August. SIMISTER, Bryan Harold
December 4, 1977 - May 28, 2011

It is with sadness that the family announces Bryan's passing on Saturday, May 28, 2011. He passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep at the age of 33, in Whitecourt, Alberta. Bryan was predeceased by his Grandparents Allan Simister, Sr. and Mavis Simister; Joan Ross and Basil Ross; his Uncles Gary and Rick. Bryan is survived by a large and close-knit family; his parents Ron & Theresa Simister, brothers - Travis (Angie & Ashton), and Thommy, his sisters- Stephanie, Shari, Sheila and Chanta; his Nana- Mary Reid in Richmond, BC; his Aunts & Uncles - Glen & Janice, Allan & Cindy, Keith & Janice, Sherry & Ross, Janet, Cathy & Greg, Karen & John, Bob & Bev, and Ken. Bryan has many cousins and a large extended family in Port Alberni and Richmond. Bryan will be remembered as being a loving son, faithful and devoted brother and one of a kind friend with a contagious smile and a unique zest for life. He was a nephew, cousin, and godfather to many more. Bryan had an amazing sense of humour, and an infectious laughter that filled any room he entered. He will be missed by us all. Viewing will be held Monday, June 6th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Yates Funeral Service, 4470 Gertrude Street, Port Alberni. Friends are most welcome. A Celebration of Life for Bryan will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4815 Compton Road, Port Alberni, Tuesday, June 7th at 11:00 AM. Tea to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bryan may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.yatesfuneral.ca
