We regret to announce the passing of Roberta Elizabeth Swelander of Lac la Hache. Roberta passed away at Fischer Place Dec. 10, 2004. She is survived by her son Dave (Annette), granddaughter Joanne, and great granddaughters Jackie and Crystal. She was predeceased by her loving husband Raymond Swelander.

With sadness, we announce the passing of our special loved one. Lenore gently passed away in the loving arms of her family.Leaving to grieve for her, her children Janet (Bruce) Dunlap, Dale Suesse, Lorraine Suesse (Harry); special daughter of the heart Sarah Smith and their families; Lenore’s only grandson and special star in her life, Austin; brothers Jack and George Coutts, sister Betty and Dorothy, many nieces, nephews and friends. Always a friend, listener and giver of advice. The ‘Dear Abby’ of Gateway. Lenore owned and operated Gateway General Store since 1969 and was very community-minded. She donated ice-cream for over 20 years to the Buffalo Creek Elementary School sports day and enjoyed going to community functions. A gardener of the heart, Lenore spent many hours in her garden and shared plants with many of us. Recipes, friendship, tears and laughter could always be found at Lenore’s. We will miss you. A service was held in Langley, B.C. on Nov. 28. A Cariboo Celebration of Lenore’s Life will be held sometime in the new year. An announcement will be in the paper.

HODGSON, Naeme “Ruth” (nee Siemens) Thursday, 02 Dec 2004
Ruth was born in Hepburn, Sask.; the eleventh of 16 children to Abrahm and Lena Siemens. Her family immigrated to B.C. in 1936 to the Abbotsford area. As an adult, she worked in various regions of B.C., finally settling in Lumby where she met her husband Graham. They were married in 1954 and together they raised five children, eventually moving to the Cariboo in 1961. Ruth was predeceased by her mother, father, 12 siblings and one great-grandson. Survived by her husband, Graham; sons Lloyd (Holly), Robert (Glenda), Blair (Diane); daughters Colleen (Larry) and Debbie (Ray); 11 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

Doris Ellen Harder of Penhold Alta., passed away Dec. 4, 2004 at the age of 68 years. Doris was born Sept. 2, 1936 in Silverdale B.C. She moved to 100 Mile House and area in 1959 and then moved to Penhold, in the summer of 2000. Doris is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ben of Penhold; son Owen of Innisfail Alta.; daughters Heather of Penhold and Joanne of Oshawa, Ont.; grandchildren Maygen and Michelle Harder, and Chloe and Leeam Brown. Doris is also survived by nine brothers and sisters all of B.C. She was predeceased by her parents Art & Alice Rose. Peter Allen Boyd passed away suddenly on Dec. 8, 2004, 13 km outside of Boston Bar at the age of 40. Peter leaves to grieve his wife Andrea, his daughter Brittany, niece Melissa, mother Maureen Manke (Dale), brother Gordon Hamilton (Shari), his siblings Georgia Perkins (Rick), Linda Lester (George), John Boyd (Olive), Sally Aitken (Joe), Joan Lipert (Rob), Susan Grenier (Claude) and Stephen Mills; sister-in-laws Joyce Ingram (Don), Rachel Toop (Ed) and Wendy Lester and mother and father-in-law Carol and Burleigh Murray and many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Thurs. Dec. 16, 2004 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Fri. We regret to announce the passing of Pauline Elaine Vermette on Dec. 3, 2004 at age 72 in 100 Mile Hospital. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 50 years, Marvin Vermette; her children: Darlene Shewchuck in La Loche, Sask.; Myrna (Stanton Lamb), 100 Mile House, B.C.; Wendy (Mel Warkentin), 105 Mile House, B.C.; Lyle (Catherine), 108 Mile Ranch, B.C.; Adrian (Maureen), Kamloops, B.C.; Kelly, 103 Mile, B.C.; and Kim of Stellarton, N.S.; brothers: Bill Shewchuk (Cathy), Prince Albert, Sask. and Harry Shewchuk of Shipman, Sask.; sister Emily Poulin of Thunder Bay, Ont. and sister-in-law Annette Basaraba of Meath Park, Sask.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Pauline was predeceased by father Nick and mother Katie Shewchuk, brother Bernard, infant sister Phyllis and grandson Terry Lamb. Born and raised in Shipman, Pauline married Mervin in Prince Albert on Nov. 20, 1954. They moved to 100 Mile House in 1965. She enjoyed cooking for her family, bingo, crosswords and canning. Her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to Pauline. Pauline had a special friend Elsa. Baba will be missed by all who knew her. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held today, Dec. 8, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Father Emil Sasges officiating. Interment to follow in the 100 Mile Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pauline’s memory to 100 Mile Hospice and Palliative Care Society, Box 399, 100 Mile House, B.C., V0K 2E0.
