Violet Geraldine Fretwell
December 5, 1921 - January 28, 2009
Vi was born on December 5, 1921 and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 28, 2009. Vi is survived by her daughters Terry Watkinson [Harvey] of Kamloops, Dawn McCormick [Evan] of Kelowna and her very dear sister Betty Gammon of Surrey. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Michael [Rene] McCormick, Jason [Shae] McCormick, Leyla [Greg] Johnson and Jory [Brenna] Mayer; and six great-grandchildren, Rhayne, Brynn and Teghan McCormick, Saylor Mayer, and twins Ryder and Carter Johnson. Vi was predeceased by her loving sister Winnie Cosco.
Vi was a WWII Veteran and served for 5 years in England. Her lifetime employment was working for Woodwards Stores from 1953 to 1986. Vi spent lots of her time walking about town chatting with friends and meeting many others. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her precious great-grandchildren. “Granny” will be sadly missed.

Blanche Genevieve Paige
January 19, 1927 - January 27, 2009
Blanche Genevieve Paige, 82, of Kamloops, B.C. (formerly of Savona) passed away on January 27, 2009 at the Pine Grove Care Centre.
Gen’s career included Nurse’s Aide at Royal Inland Hospital and later in Quesnel at the GR Baker Memorial.
Gen was born January 19, 1927 in Kamloops, B.C., an only daughter to Gus & Ida McAuliffe. She is predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Danella (Ian) of Surrey, and sons, Dennis of Savona, Daryl (Debbie) of Logan Lake and Terry (Sandy) of Quesnel. She also leaves 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Pine Grove Care Center for their professional care given to our mother in her final days.

Lorraine Anne Simmons
October 9, 1939 - February 2, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne on February 1, 2009 at the age of 69 years.
Anne is survived by her loving husband Doug and her mother Elvie Pembleton. She also leaves to cherish her memory, two sons Marke and Craig (Dianne), two daughters Linda (Adrien) and Monika, as well as three grandchildren Ryan, Kyra and Danielle, her brother Ian (Linda), and nephew Tyler.
Anne worked tirelessly with children for over 36 years
at the Kamloops Child Development Centre.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Firemen and Paramedics for their valiant efforts to revive Anne.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mary Widmer officiating.

Melody Roseanne Wiebe
January 13, 1962 - December 3, 2009
Melody Wiebe passed away suddenly at Royal Inland Hospital at the young age of 47. She will be sadly missed by her son Derek; her companion Rob, her father Marvin, stepmother Mary, her brother Mickey, her sisters Pam (David) and Kathie and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother, June (1994).
A Celebration of Melody’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 3, 2010 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive.

Arpad “Art” Munkacsi
September 12, 1922 - December 28, 2009
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arpad “Art” Munkacsi at the Royal Inland Hospital on December 28, 2009.
Art was born in Hungary on September 12, 1922. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 54 years, daughter Patricia and sister Goldie of Calgary. He was predeceased by his son David and brother Kelly of Calgary.
Art spent many years of service in the RCAF and USA (NORAD). He received a Canadian Volunteer Service Metal, 1939 – 1945, and was discharged as a Flight Lieutenant.
No formal ceremony will be held at his request. A small gathering will be held at the family home on Monday, January 4th, 2010 between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

Dorothy May Mayden (Carr)
January 20, 1934 - January 1, 2010
Dorothy passed away peacefully at the Kamloops Hospice on January 1, 2010 at the age of 76 years. She was born in Vancouver at the Vancouver General Hospital in 1933, daughter of the late George and Alice Carr.
Dorothy resided in Ashcroft with her husband John Mayden for the past 38 years. She is survived by her husband John, 4 children, Warren (Ashcroft), Patricia (Brian Peters) of Vernon, Jamie of Vancouver, Janie Thomson (John Pratt) of Kamloops, sisters Rose Carr of Kelowna and Ruby Krienke of Saskatoon. Also left to mourn seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks goes to the 6th North RIH staff, Dr. Rollheiser and the Kamloops Hospice Staff for the care she received in the last four months before her passing.

Norman Hayward
June 9, 1921 - January 11, 2010
Norman Hayward of Kamloops B.C. passed away on January 11, 2010 at the age of 88.
Left to mourn his loss are his daughters Susan Hayward and Lois (Gypsy) Warner, granddaughter Kimberly Warner, grandson Kyle (Dawn) Warner, great-grandchildren Paige Peets, Cameron Peets and Kelly Warner.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Muriel of 59 years, as well as their son, Kenneth.
Norm was born on June 9, 1921 in Piney, Manitoba. Mom and Dad were married on August 30, 1947. Norm served in the Armed Forces between 1946-1971, and when he returned to Kamloops, he started working for Finning Tractor until he turned 65. Norm took up his passion of golfing three times a week at Rivershore Golf and Country Club. When Norm was not golfing he was an Avid member of Masonic Temple and the Shriners.
A Graveside Ceremony will take place at 2:00 pm on January 15, 2010 at Hillside Cemetery, 750 Notre Dame Drive.
The family would appreciate donations in Norm’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1529 Cedar Ave., Montreal, Quebec H3G 1A6.

Larry Dean Eye
July 8, 1937 - December 14, 2010
Larry Dean Eye of Westwold B.C. passed away on December 14, 2010 at 73 years of age.
Survived by his loving wife Sharon, children Brock (Michelle) Eye of Kamloops, B.C. and Tami (Clay) Abel of Westwold, B.C. Larry also leaves to cherish his memory four grandchildren, Evan, Brittany, Ashley, Dana and great-grandchild, Charleigh Abel also brother Blaine (Elda) Eye and sister Jo-anne (George) Churchill as well as numerous in- laws nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Erving Eye on Sept 1985 and his mother Agnes Eye on June 1991.
Poppy loved and lived his life for his family and numerous friends. Larry wore many hats. He worked for several years as a “concrete cowboy.” Then he continued as the “Pipe Doctor”. Dad completed his mission with the two loves of his life, his wife Sharon of 50 years and farming of which he spent many dedicated hours. Poppy loved to tell a joke, and always made everyone feel at ease by making fun of himself first. Also let us not forget his best friend “D.O.G.”
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr Wilson, Dr.Ottim, Dr.Steyn as well as Jeremy Battye and the nurses and staff on the sixth floor.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday January 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM.

Gian Kaur Bassi
February 12, 1939 - January 15, 2011
We regret to announce the passing of Gian Kaur Bassi on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 72 years of age.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Jhalman Bassi and her daughter Harjinder (Kulvir) Gill. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Justin, Jaspreet and Priya Gill. Also left to cherish her memory are brothers Gurmej and Surinder Sandhu and sister Surjit Kaur.
Gian was born in the village of Sarih, India on February 12, 1939. After Jhalman and Gian were married, they lived in the village of Bundala, India. In 1998, Gian came to Canada where she could be close to her daughter Rajan and grandkids.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at The Hamlets Care Home and Kamloops Funeral Home and also a big thank you to Dr. Howie.
The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive.
