CARTER - Brian Desmond. Passed away at home on June 3rd, 2000, at the age of 70. Born in Montreal, formerly of West Vancouver and retired to Mill Bay, B.C. Predeceased by daughter Shaune. Survived by his wife, Shirley, and children: Michael (Allison), Andrea (Ian), Paul (Uri), Mark (Harriet), Matthew (Karen), and son-in-law Bill. Also survived by his grandchildren: Chelsea, Timothy, Meghan, Ben, Sophie, Jake, Kyle, Hanna, Joshua, and Emma. Brian's heart was with his family always. His interests included: golf (Capilano Golf and Country Club, long-time member and former captain; Cowichan Golf Club), fishing (Totem Fly-fishers, former president), photography, painting and cooking. Brian unselfishly contributed to his community. He was President of the Children's Aid Society of Vancouver (1963-73), a Governor-of-the-Board of the Vancouver Public Aquarium Association (1972-82), and Chairman of the United Way of the Lower Mainland (1972). He was also the recipient of several community awards. Grandpa-grumps, you are deeply loved and will be greatly missed. We hope you find your butterfly. An open house is planned for family and friends on Sunday, June 11th, 2000 from 1-5 pm. If unable to attend please consider a donation to a local children's charity of your choice.

CHABOT - John Edward, born January 28, 1933, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 2, 2000. John was predeceased by his father, Cyril, mother, Grace, and his wife, Sheila. Left to mourn is his wife Marcia, of Abbotsford, son, Robert Chabot (Jane) of Cobble Hill, daughters, Lillian Barnett (Ed) of Surrey, Cheryl Eccleston (Damian) of Abbotsford, and sister Alice Ethier of Cobble Hill. His grandchildren, Ian, Mehgan, Thomas, Laura, Mark Kieran and Liam will fondly remember "Dump". John is also survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Lillian McKay, his niece Chantal Eccleston (Chris), nephew David Ethier (Debbie), and the very large McKay and Gauthier families. John took into his heart Dan Dube (Maria), Catherine Rosenow and Michelle Favero (Gio) as well as his adopted grandchildren, Alex, Jessica, Sophia, Rachel, Olivia, Joey and Aemilia. John was born in Athabasca, Alberta and grew up in Maillardville and New Westminster, B.C. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 20 years, completing tours to Europe before retiring in 1972. John's second career was in real estate until 1978 and then he became an integral part of the mushroom industry until his retirement in 1998. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Abbotsford Big Bird R.C. Flying Club. John's retirement was spent enjoying time with his family, travelling in his "bus" and flying his remote control model airplanes. His large extended family and friends will miss him always. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery. Woodlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCHARD - Elizabeth Cairns, of Burnaby, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2000. Elizabeth is survived by her loving family, husband, Alan; children, Irene, James, Ian and their spouses; grandchildren, Kevin, Elizabeth, Lisa, Edward and Samantha. CROWELL - Rose Emily Elizabeth (nee Easto) born June 5, 1928 in Vancouver, BC passed away peacefully June 4, 2000 after a courageous 20 year battle with kidney disease. Rose was a tower of strength to her family and will be sadly missed by her two daughters Carol (Don), Brenda (Terry), sister Enid, brother Jim, nephew Ken, granddaughter Tara (Luca), grandsons Daniel, Brian and Michael (Erinn/Eric) and friends Al and Blackie. Predeceased by her husband Searle, and her parents Herbert and Rose Easto. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the VGH Renal Unit for their support and care throughout the years and the staff at the Burnaby Hospital Cascade Residence for their kindness throughout the past few months. Also a special thanks to Home Support Workers who cared for Rose through the years and her special friend Dolly. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday June 9, 2000 at 12:30 pm, at St. David of Wales Anglican Church, 2475 Franklin St., Vancouver, BC by the Reverend Fr. James A. Penrice, ssc. Interment to follow the service at Valley View Cemetery, Surrey, BC in the Garden of the Good Shepherd. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation would be greatly appreciated. DONNELLY - Isabel Madeline went to join her Lord on June 5th, 2000 after a brief illness. Survived by her loving husband Jim, daughter Mary (John), son John (Katie) and grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris, Patrick, Robert, Michael and Kallie, brothers, Father Joseph Kearns and Jerry Kearns, and predeceased by her son Richard and sisters Mary, Vicky and Leona. A dearly loved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, she will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the ICU Unit at Lions Gate Hospital for their care and attention during her final hours. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, North Vancouver on Friday, June 9th at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Gardens of Gethsemani, 15800 - 32 Ave., Surrey, B.C. ERICKSON - Douglas N. Born October 4, 1938 in New Westminster, BC, passed away suddenly but peacefully in is sleep on June 3, 2000 in White Rock, BC. `Uncle Doug' was predeceased by his beloved parents Mary and Herman, and his infant sister Madelline. Survived by 9 loving brothers and sisters: Camilla (Peter), Monte (Pat), Chappy (Betty), Joan (Nick), Gloria (Bill), Kathryn (Ray), Mary, Ed, Stina and special friend Dan. Doug was a `fun uncle' to 31 nieces and nephews and a great-uncle 47 times over! He grew up in New Westminster, attending St. Peter's School and graduated from Lester Pearson in 1957. A huge void will be in our lives with the passing of this kind, gentle brother, uncle and caring friend - but the family rejoices that Doug now enjoys perfect peace and rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior. HAWKES - Leo Gerard, born December 31st, 1936, passed away June 5th, 2000 after a short courageous battle with cancer. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years Pat; sons Ken, Al (Lynette) and daughters Diane, Tanya (Mike); 9 grandchildren Mathieu, Chantal, Denis, Jeffrey, Jessica, Katie, Jonathan, Amy and Benjamin. He will be sadly missed by his mother Mary Ellen; sisters Bea (Gerry), Kay, Florence (Norm); brother John, and many other relatives, friends and neighbours. Leo was predeceased by his father Garnet, brother Floyd and infant sister Deborah. There will be no formal service by request, cremation and interment. BOYD - Mary Ritchie, born in 1924 in Montreal, Canada, died September 30th, 2000 in Burbank, CA. Mary spent her childhood in Vancouver, B.C., later married Dr. John Boyd and raised six children there. The family relocated to Shaker Heights, Ohio in 1964 and later to Burbank in 1972. Mary is survived by five of her children, Barbara and her husband Dale in Santa Barbara, CA, Cathy and her husband Mark and sons Chris and Greg in Sierra Madre, CA, David and wife Joyce and son John and daughter expected in January in Wasilla, Alaska, Janice and her husband Steve in Burbank, CA, Ritchie and his wife Karin and daughters Maggie and Cayley in Bozeman, Montana. She is survived also by her brother Jack; her sister Anabel; her sisters-in-law Fan and Win and many well loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1988 and her daughter Debby in 1992. Debby is survived by her husband Scott; sons Todd and Ian and daughter Katy in Burbank, CA. Mary was an exceptional woman, very caring and giving. Her door was always open to her loved ones. She had a famous sense of humor and will be greatly missed though her indomitable spirit lives on in all of us. According to her wishes Mary's ashes will be scattered at Keats Island near Vancouver, where she spent many happy summers. In Mary's memory the family will gather in Burbank Thanksgiving weekend to celebrate her life with her many friends.

DOYLE - Norbert Vincent passed away October 4th, 2000 at the age of 74 years from Multiple Myeloma Cancer. Norbert will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Florence (nee Lemieux) and children Terry (Wendy), Chris (Aline), Tim, Lorraine Mitchell (Barry), Diane Labron (Stuart) and Greg (Kelly), as well as 13 grandchildren. Norbert, the second youngest of 13 children born to John and Mary Doyle, is survived by his brother Most Reverend W. Emmett Doyle; his sister Sr. Veronica Doyle ssj, and brother W. James Doyle. Norbert had a long and successful career with Doyle Construction Co. and enjoyed many years as a member and past president of Point Grey Golf and Country Club. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at Corpus Christi Church, 11:00 am (48th and Nanaimo). Prayers will be held at Kearney Funeral Home, 1096 West Broadway, Monday, October 9th at 8:00 pm.
