CHABOT, Beota - Friday, 11 Apr 2003
Beota Chabot, late of Chilliwack and formerly of Alberta, passed away April 11, 2003 in Chilliwack at the age of 90 years. She was born April 18, 1912 in Rosenheim, Alta. and lived in this area for 57 years (since 1946).
Beota was a registered nurse (retired), and for 32 years worked at the Chilliwack General Hospital. She was involved with the Chilliwack Senior Recreation Centre, loved cards, bridge and canasta in particular, music, sports, dancing, lawn bowling and swimming. She was formerly very active in CWL (Catholic Women’s League), Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary and the B.C. Registered Nurses Association and held a variety of executive positions. She was great at fundraising.
Beota is survived by two daughters, Mona Nelson and Irene Hrusovsky; three grandsons, Joseph Kolbus, Liam Gray, and Michael Gray; one granddaughter Renata Kolbus; and one great-granddaughter Victoria Lubenow.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Chabot who died in 1971.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2003 between 7-8 p.m. at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 16, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Gary Gordon the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
QUILTY, Sean Christopher - Friday, 11 Apr 2003
Sean Christopher Quilty late of Chilliwack, died senselessly and tragically in the early morning hours of - Friday, Apr. 11, 2003, at the age of 32.
He is survived by grandfather Kevin Joseph Quilty of Chilliwack; grandparents, Gerri and Rudi Bruderman of Cloverdale; and by his mother Donna Mussell (Fred) longtime residents of Chilliwack. Also survived by sisters, Colleen Quilty and her two sons, Octavio and Alexander, Donna Ross and her daughter Hannah, and Sandra Vetterl, all of Chilliwack, Lisa-anne Hall (Lonnie) and their son Jacob, Christina Lopushinsky; and brother Joseph Lopushinsky, all of Ontario; sisters, Crystal McGreggor of Salt Spring Island, Robin Mussell, Jay Mussell, and Aaren Ivers; and brothers Fred Mussell Jr., and Owen Mussell, also of Chilliwack.
Sean was predeceased by his cousin and close friend, Dallas Deleen who died in June of 1999; and by his father, Richard Alan Lopushinsky, who passed away suddenly of a heart attack on March 4, 2003.
Words cannot begin to describe how much Sean will be missed by everyone who really knew him. He had a special place in his heart for you! Sean not only made you feel special; to him, you were special. He knew how to make you believe in yourself and in tomorrow.
Sean’s musical talents surfaced at a young age. He spent his life singing and performing every chance he had. He became an extremely talented musician, singer/songwriter, and recording artist. We will cherish those few recordings forever and thank him so much for the memories.

SNOWDEN, Gwendoline Isabel - Thursday, 10 Apr 2003
Gwendoline Isabel Snowden, aged 92 years, of Chilliwack, passed away on April 10, 2003.
Gwendoline is survived by her loving family; daughter Joy (Norman) Chapman of Rosedale, and son, Arthur Snowden of Chilliwack; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Wilfred Snowden, predeceased her, and also two grandsons, Lloyd Chapman and David Snowden, and two daughters-in-law, Velora and Lolly.
Gwen’s hobbies included knitting, crocheting and gardening. She won many awards for her handwork at the Chilliwack Fair.
Gwen devoted many hours in service to her church. Donations can be made to ADRA Canada.

COOPER, Grace deBorde - Thursday, 10 Apr 2003
Grace deBorde Cooper passed away on Thursday, Apr. 10, 2003 at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 82 years. She was born August 5, 1920 in Grande Prairie, Alta.
Grace is survived by her son Astley (Patricia); daughter Mary; grandchildren, Rebecca Cooper of Kamloops, Troy (Pam) of Prince George, Justin and Jennifer Nordal of Agassiz; and great-grandchildren, Bailey, Gradyn, Ryan, and Tyson.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter deBorde Cooper.
A memorial service will be held - Wednesday, Apr. 16, 2003 from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Rosedale. Donna Kirkpatrick officiating. A viewing for family and friends was held Monday, Apr. 14, 2003 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack.

Grace was co-owner with Peter Cooper of the Ruskin General Store.

Blossom Hall passed away peacefully - Sunday, June 15, 2003 at the age of 85. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Vivian and Joy; her sons, Bob, Phil, Don, and Gord; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Donald William Kickbush passed away in his sleep, on a Lodge trip to Keremeos, B.C., with his Masonic Brothers, Don Birdsell and Jim McIlroy - Thursday, June 12, 2003.
Donald (Don) is survived by his loving wife Margaret Elizabeth, of 58 years; daughters, Donna and Betty; and son Frank; Betty’s husband Robert, and Frank’s wife Kathryn; 10 grandchildren - Donna’s children, Willie and his wife Lisa, Wenona and her husband Ernie Victor, Dilah and Helena. Betty and Bob Bedard’s children, Jalean and her fiance Darryl, Norman and his wife Michelle. Frank and Kathryn’s children, Nathan and his partner Megan, Mori and his wife Marnie, Benjamin and his wife Christa, and Dan; 13 great-grandchildren, Willie’s children, Austin, Cassidy and Mackenzie. Wenona’s children, Jade and Justice. Dilah’s children, Devon, Tsandlia and Faith. Helena’s daughter Summer. Jalean’s son Weston. Norman’s daughter Isabella. Mori’s son Dylan, and Ben’s daughter Morgan.
Don is also survived by his loving sister Lorna McKinnon (Bill) and sons, Phillip (Betty) and Jim Teichgrab of Chilliwack; sister-in-law Florine (Flossy) Gordy and family of Yakima, WA.; sister-in-law Violet May and family of Calgary, Alta. Also his constant companion Cindy Girl.
Don was predeceased by parents, former Chilliwack Sheriff Frank Kickbush and Mary (nee Richardson); grandparents, former Chilliwack Reeve Fredrick Kickbush and Cynthia Ann (nee Huck) and local artist Norman Richardson and Margaret (nee Rounsefell); and nephew Donald Teichgrab.
Don was born and lived his whole life on the farm that his grandparents homesteaded (1800s). In addition to working the farm for many years, Don also worked at the AI Station (also past president) and 15 years at the Agassiz Research Station. Don’s activities included a partnership in the Chilliwack Art Gallery, membership in the Chilliwack Curling Club, OES #49, Ionic Lodge #19, and member of FVMPA, past Board of Stewards and member of Carman United since the 1950s. Catcher for the Valley Ramblers ball team.
Don will be remembered for his devotion to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing the opportunity to attend a sporting event that they might be involved in. He had a strong connection to his family and deep interest and knowledge of his ancestral roots including Sto:lo history.
Don was an avid reader, he particularly enjoyed sharing stories of B.C. and historical sites. He was very knowledgeable about nature, animals, birds and trees (planting well over 100 trees on the Kickbush place during his 80 years). Don had a strong affinity to the land, nicknamed Johnny Appleseed, he had to plant something (usually trees) every spring. He was also a target for every stray cat or dog that showed up.
Don is widely known and appreciated for his skill as a carpenter and cabinet maker completing numerous projects for friends and family. His cheerful, engaging nature always lead to lasting relationships with his customers.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Carman United Church (Vedder Rd., Sardis). Dr. and Cheryl Wickham have provided the “Kickbush Heritage House’’ for tea and tours. At this time the family will be planting a tree in Don’s honour.
Interment of ashes will be attended by family members only in Chilliwack. The graveside service will include a traditional native prayer song by Ernie Victor using a drum framed by Don. Dedication of the grave will be offered by Elder Frank Kickbush.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation, B.C. Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice will be appreciated.
NEUFELD, Jacob (Jack) - Thursday, 12 Jun 2003
Jacob Neufeld of Sardis passed away in Chilliwack Hospital June 12, 2003 at age 69.
Jack was an outdoorsman, making his living as a shake splitter.
He will be missed by his longtime companion, Jean Wright; brother Abe (Belle) Neufeld; sisters, Liz (Les) MacBride and Mary Young; sister-in-law Martha Neufeld; and many nieces and nephews.
No funeral by request of the deceased.
BIRCH, Agnes - Wednesday, 11 Jun 2003
Agnes Birch passed away peacefully at Valley Haven Guest Home on June 11, 2003. Agnes was born on January 14, 1909 in Halifax, N.S.
She is survived by her loving family, daughters, Mary Agnes Kintzle of Winona, MN., Elizabeth Miller of Las Vegas, NV., and Dolores Kocsis of Chilliwack; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Burial will take place beside her late husband Erick, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Welland, Ont., with a graveside service at a later date to be announced.
HARPER, Elmer Russell - Wednesday, 11 Jun 2003
Elmer Russell Harper passed away peacefully at Eden Intermediate Care Centre, with his four daughters by his side, on June 11, 2003. He was born on February 26, 1923 in Prince George.
His family moved to the Chilliwack area in the early 1930s, where his father started Harper Sheet Metal on Young St. Elmer graduated from Chilliwack Junior-Senior High School in 1940. During the Second World War he worked at Vicker’s Aircraft in Montreal, Que. along with brothers, Bert and Jack, building harvard Mk11B trainers for the RCAF, RAF, and USAAF. He returned to Chilliwack to work in the family business with his father and brother Howard.
In 1951, he was married to Dulce Roberta Garnett, whom he met on a blind date. A long time member of the Chilliwack Curling Club and an avid golfer, he also enjoyed driving, playing cards, playing pool, watching baseball and hockey, and taking camping trips with his family. Elmer was also a faithful blood donor. He retired from sheet metal work in 1982, and took up the hobby of woodworking, producing many beautiful and intricate pieces.
Elmer was predeceased by his parents, William Gawn Davison Harper and Margaret McClure Harper; brothers, Lloyd, Bert, Howard, Len, and Jack; infant sister Dorothy; wife Dulce; and granddaughter Seraphina Hames.
He is survived by daughters, Anne (Allan) Stewart of Chilliwack, Judy (Ray) Foucher of Greenwood, Lynn Harper of Chilliwack, and Gail (Norm) Hames of Chilliwack; grandchildren, Amanda and Alanna Stewart, Cheryl and Greg Foucher, and Bret, Bill and Shannon Hames.

Monday, June 9, 2003, George Boonstra, peacefully joined the lord.
He is greatly missed by his family, his loving wife Grace; his children, Jacqui Boonstra of Chilliwack, Ron (Sandy) Boonstra of chilliwack, Linda (Will) Ryks of Edmonton, Alta., and James Boonstra of Vancouver; his grandchildren, Corey and Jason Lequereux, Chloe and Levi Boonstra, and Christopher, Matthew and Brianna Ryks; his brothers and sisters, Annie (Sid) Jaarsma of Abbotsford, Alice (Bill) Oomen of Smithers, Lolly (Wiebe) Meter of Holland, Stan (Joanne) Boonstra of Kelowna, Hans (Nancy) Boonstra of Smither, Geertje (Henk) de Haan of Holland, Jochum (Tryntje) Boonstra of Holland, and Pope Boonstra of Holland; and his sister-in-law Sljke van Bruggen of Holland.
George was born in Duurswoude, The Netherlands on April 30, 1934. On June 29, 1954 he immigrated to Canada where he found immense pleasure in the beauty of the mountains. He settled in Smithers, then moved to Duncan in 1981. He returned to Smithers in 1985 where he remained until retiring to Chilliwack in 2001. He worked in the automotive industry his entire life; as a mechanic, as a salesman, and as a partner in a variety of car dealerships.
George shared 46 years of marriage with Grace and was blessed by children and grandchildren, in whom he took great interest and joy. He accepted the Lord’s guidance in all his life’s blessings and hardships. His compassionate nature and generosity to others will forever inspire his family.
The family expresses their thanks and gratitude to the staff and doctors of the ICU2 at Vancouver General Hospital for their excellent care in George’s final days.

Interment took place at Chilliwack Cemeteries on Little Mountain, 10010 Hillcrest Dr., in Chilliwack.

Gene Alan Oswald, suddenly at Chilliwack on June 9, 2003, aged 48 years, late of Chilliwack.
Survived by his loving family, wife Jo-Anne; daughter Laura Lee Ann; his mother, Tova and Leo of Penticton; one brother Charles Oswald of Boston Bar; and beloved family pets, Jessie, Otis, Bejing, Missy, Runtley, and Gizmo.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2003 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Ireland officiating. Cremation.
