Anna Enns, late of Abbotsford, passed away Feb. 4, 2003.
Anna has lived in the Chilliwack District since the 1950’s.
Funeral Service will be held - Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at the German Church of God at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Alfred Brix officiating. Interment in Chilliwack Cemeteries.
Anna is survived by her children Helen (Ed) Mutschmann of Surrey, Susan (Fred) Matzek of Burnaby, Anne Enns of Surrey, Abe (Arlene) Enns of Langley, Nettie (Willie) Liesch of Logan Lake, Eva Weisschnur of Chilliwack, Marie Enns of Chilliwack, Elizabeth Mann of Surrey, and Martha (George) Krahn of Sardis. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as two sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy Enns, June 17, 1954, and her husband Cornelius in 1986.
CLAYTON, Maria (Rita) - Monday, 03 Feb 2003
Maria (Rita) Clayton passed away peacefully in the presence of her Lord on February 3, 2003 at the age of 84 , at Ebenezer Home, Abbotsford. She was born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1918.
She will be missed by her loving daughter Anja (Willem) Van Leeuwen; grandson Brian (Kenny); and granddaughter Kim.
She was predeceased by her husband Jan Snoeck.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at Ebenezer Home, 33433 Marshall Rd., with interment following at Chilliwack Cemeteries (Little Mountain Cemetery).
MARTIN, Laura - Monday, 03 Feb 2003
Laura Martin late of Chilliwack, passed away on February 3, 2003 at 90 years of age.
Survived by her children, Faith (Art) Kehler of Heffley Creek, and Bill (Marion) Martin of Hope; grandchildren, Lorrie (Charles) Whipps of Ontario, and Tim (Doris) Kehler of Texas; great-grandchildren Ben and Chelsea Whipps, and Angie and Katerina Kehler; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by her husband Bill Martin; son Larry; and her eight brothers and sisters.
Laura was born May 2, 1912 in Bjorkdale, Sask. She moved to Burnaby where she met and married Bill. In the late 1930s they cleared land and built a home in Capilano where they raised a family before moving to Chilliwack in 1961.
Memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. - Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at the Salvation Army Church, 46420 Brooks Ave., Chilliwack with Major Don Law officiating. Interment to follow at Chilliwack Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
URQUHART (nee Payton), Dorothy Lorraine - Monday, 03 Feb 2003
Dorothy Lorraine Urquhart (nee Payton), born October 18, 1930, passed away peacefully February 3, 2003 in Chillliwack Hospital.
Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses, Cindy (Mike), Donna (Dusty), Merv (Ev), Sandy (Bob), Shelley (Ken), Gord (Shirley), and Jeanette (Rick); grandchildren, Katherine and Kendy, Brandy and Sandy, Miranda and Clayton, Mica and Tasha, Kelly, Selena, Kelsey, Kazmin and Kade, and Christia; great-grandchildren, Mikaila and Colton; brother Don and his spouse Nadine, and their children, Rick and Julie; and sister Tedha and her spouse Romy, and their children, Tim and Kaily.
Predeceased by mother Laura Payton in 1958; father Fred Payton in 1994; twin daughters, Della-Marie and Dori-Ann in 1961; and her son Melvin in 1980.
The family would like to thank all of Mom’s caring support workers, especially Dr. Paul Basson and staff, hospital staff and Agassiz ambulance staff.
Service to be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 9460 Charles St., Chilliwack on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at 1 p.m., tea to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to B.C. Children’s Hospital.
POPPE, Birgit - Monday, 03 Feb 2003
It is with great sorrow to announce Birgit Poppe, age 48 years, passed away on Feb. 3, 2003 surrounded by her family at Chilliwack General Hospital after a long battle with brain cancer.
Birgit will be greatly missed by her mother, Katherina; sister, Julie (Mike); also, brothers: Klaus and Peter; as well as by her children: Theresa (Chris), Mike (Sheila), and Al (Grace); also, her nieces and nephews, and her four grandchildren, Cody, Cheyenne, Christen and Carter.
Thank you to all the staff on West Wing in ECU.
It was Birgit’s wish that there be no funeral service.

LIND, Merle - Sunday, 02 Feb 2003
Merle Lind late of Chilliwack, passed away peacefully in the Chilliwack General Hospital, February 2, 2003 at the age of 84 years.
A graveside service will be held - Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Vedderview Gardens Cemetery, Sardis. Rev. Doug Ireland officiating.
She is survived by three sons, Clare Lind of New Westminster, Bill (Dana) Smiley of Nanaimo, and Bud Smiley of Abbotsford.
She was predeceased by her loving husband David in 1999; one brother; and one sister.
Should family and friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
SNEDDON, Marjorie Carol - Sunday, 02 Feb 2003
Marjorie Carol Sneddon passed away on February 2, 2003 at Chilliwack General Hospital at age 71 years. She was born December 25, 1931 in Calgary, Alta.
Marjorie is survived by her husband of 53 years, George; son George Jr. (Patricia); daughter Marjorie (Jim) Beck; grandchildren, Clayton (Joanne) Beck and RaeAnn Beck; and niece Connie Adam from Vallejo, CA.
She was predeceased by her mother Eileen Garnett; father Norman W. Garnett; and sister Phyllis Wilkes.
A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home on February 7, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Angus Haggarty officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Marjorie was a longtime resident of Cultus Lake. She was a past Sunday school teacher, involved in Boy Scouts, and an active member of the Nodus Tonus Club. Marjorie’s interests included her gardening, all of her many crafts, and seamstress work (e.g. bridesmaid dresses for Clayton and Joanne’s wedding).
EVANS, George Russell - Saturday, 01 Feb 2003
George Russell Evans passed away peacefully on February 1, 2003, surrounded by his family at Chilliwack Gen-eral Hospital after a long illness. He was 84 years of age. George was born in Beaton, B.C. on December 7, 1918.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Helen; adoring daughters, Heather and Shannon; son-in-law Greg Bellamy; and ‘little man’ grandson Cameron.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. from Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack. A reception will follow from the Elks Hall at 46185 Fourth Ave., Chilliwack.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
George was kindhearted and always thought of others first. A Navy veteran and leader in his community, his volunteer service in Chilliwack and Revelstoke included Citizens Patrol, Volunteer Fireman, Auxiliary RCMP, Revelstoke Centennial Committee, Alderman, Moberly Manor, and School Board Trustee. He showed compassion for others in his daily life and work as a Coroner, Judge, and Registrar.
He was a jack-of-all-trades, farmer, butcher, gardener, and cook. Fishing for the big one was a hobby. A miner at heart, prospecting for gold was his passion. He was a 40 year member of the Elks and Royal Canadian Legion. In his latter years, his pride and joy has been his grandson, Cameron. He was a guiding light to his family and a friend to all he met. Keep searching for gold, Dad!
GERRARD, John Merson Saturday, 01 Feb 2003
John Merson Gerrard passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at the Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 64 years.
John will be sadly missed by his loving wife Anne; children, Debbie (Ron) Fraser, John (Janet) Gerrard, and Tanys (Brian) Bradley; as well as his grandchildren, Curtis, Jason, Janelle, Carson, and Graydon. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie Fowler; and brother Bill Gerrard.
Private family cremation services will be held.
Donations may be made in memory of John to the Canadian Cancer Society.
VANDERHOEK, Tyler Andrew - Thursday, 17 Apr 2003
Tyler Andrew Vanderhoek died tragically on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at Harrison Hot Springs, B.C., at age 19 years. He was born Oct. 20, 1983.
Tyler (Ty) is survived by his mother, Jennifer Doerr; stepfather (Mark); father, Ken Vanderhoek; brother, Brent Vanderhoek; sister, Tamara Vanderhoek; grandparents, Tina Vanderhoek, Keith and Diana Hardy, Glenda Pearson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Tyler was predeceased by his grandfather, Bert Vanderhoek.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from Agassiz United Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Agassiz-Harrison Search and Rescue.
ZOLTENKO, Nettie - Thursday, 17 Apr 2003
Nettie Zoltenko, passed away on April 17, 2003 at Chilliwack, aged 89 years.
She was an active member of the Chilliwack United Church. She volunteered for the Community Policing Centre. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling and lawn bowling.
Nettie is survived by her loving family, daughter Dorothy Hawrysh of Chilliwack; son Leonard (Grace) Zoltenko of St. Albert, Alta.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Nettie was predeceased by her husband, Bill Zoltenko in 1998, four sisters and three brothers.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Apr. 24, 2003 at the Chilliwack Cemeteries.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. from the Chilliwack United Church. Rev. Doug Ireland officiated.

SPERLING, Kathleen Lilian - Tuesday, 15 Apr 2003
Kathleen Lilian Sperling (nee DeBaie) late of Chilliwack and formerly of Hamilton, Ont. passed away peacefully in Chilliwack General Hospital at the age of 31 years. She had lived in this area for seven years.
Kathleen enjoyed reading, movies, spending time with her daughter, family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband John; daughter Elizabeth; mother Susan Kendall; and stepfather Bert Kendall; brothers John and Russell DeBaie; stepbrother Donald; stepsister Lewanne DeBaie; and stepmother Patricia DeBaie.
She will be sadly missed by friends and family.
She was predeceased by her father Donald DeBaie of Nova Scotia; and grandmother and grandfather of Ontario.

John Frederick Kloot late of Chilliwack, passed away suddenly on April 15, 2003 in High River, Alta., at the age of 44 years.
John is survived by his children, Jeff and Michelle; his loving parents, Frank and Jacoba of Chilliwack; his four brothers, Jim (Alma) of Chilliwack, Alfred (Rita) of Chilliwack, Donald (Caroline) of Lethbridge, Alta., and Robert (Kim) of Lethbridge, Alta.; nephews and nieces, Brandon, Jordan, Cody, Chad, and Cayden, Bert, Dariann and Dustin, Jessie and Justin, and Hailey and Sara; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Predeceased by one brother Bert in 1965.
Funeral services for Mr. John Kloot took place Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2003 from the chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack, with Rev. J. Treur officiating.
Pallbearers, Jim, Alfred, Don, Bob, Brandon, and Bert Kloot.
Honourary bearers, John Vangent, Jeff Lozano, and Bert VandenBrink.
Burial followed in the Chilliwack Cemeteries.
