MULROY, James Michael (Mickey) - Thursday, 10 Mar 2005
James Michael (Mickey) Mulroy, who was born in Winnipeg, Man. on December 22, 1934 passed away quietly on March 10, 2005, at home, after a courageous struggle with heart and kidney disease.
Mickey was the youngest of 10 siblings raised in Togo, Sask. At age 15 he joined the army and served his country in Korea. After becoming legal age he rejoined the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years. He spent four tours of duty peacekeeping in Cyprus and 7 years in Germany. Mickey retired at 65 for the second time from Chilliwack Zellers.
He was a family man who loved children, and outdoor activities like gardening, hunting and fishing. Mickey loved canning and made many an Apple pie. He volunteered for many years at Royal Canadian Legion Br. #265, Aldergrove, B.C. where he had a lifetime membership.
Mickey is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Lorraine. Also by his two daughters Denise Mulroy and Susan Maier (Rob Kennedy); their mother Sonia Peters; his grandchildren, Candra, Chad, T.J., Christopher and Brittany; great-granddaughter Shaye, all of Chilliwack, B.C.; step-children Berek, Travis and Michelle Hook all of Edmonton, Alta.; Angela and Rik Taylor of Aldergrove, B.C. and Sharon Boyd of Calgary, Alta.; step-grandchildren Amanda, Audrey and Owen.
Visitation for family and friends will be held - Tuesday, Mar. 15, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 27555-31 Ave., Aldergrove, B.C. Funeral Services will be - Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2005 at 3 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #265 hall at 26607 Fraser Highway.

KENNEDY (nee Holler), Helen Josephine - Monday, 21 Feb 2005
In loving memory of Helen Kennedy who passed away - Monday, Feb. 21st, 2005 at the age of 84, at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, St. Joseph Health Center in Sudbury, Ont.
Beloved wife of Duncan Kennedy who predeceased her in 1998. Loving mother of Larry of Sudbury, Bruce of Sturgeon Falls and predeceased by Robert “Casper”. Cherished grandmother of Laura (Al Kuzenko) of Garson, Shannon Kennedy (fiancé – Brad) of Cambridge, ON, Steve Kennedy (fiancé - Mandy) of Barrie, ON and great-grandchildren Mathew and Megan. Dear daughter of Casper and Janet Holler, both predeceased.
Born in Hearst, Helen and Duncan owned and operated Kennedy’s Esso in Verner for many years. Helen was an active member of the Sturgeon Falls United Church. Helen was a past Noble Grand of Pinecrest Rebekah Lodge #264 and was a member since 1953. She devoted herself to her family.
A funeral service was held at Lougheed Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 24th in Sudbury, Ont. Cremation followed at the Parklawn Crematorium.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society is appreciated.

KALHOFER, Elisabeth Eugenia Michelina - Wednesday, 09 Mar 2005
Elisabeth Eugenia Michelina Kalhofer, late of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away March 9, 2005 at the age of 94 years. She was born June 14, 1910 in Antwerp, Belgium.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Parish Monday, Mar. 14, 2005 at 1 p.m. Fr. D.D. MacDonald, O.M.I. Celebrant.
She is survived by 4 children; Ria (Vic) Hergott of Agassiz; Hans (Cherie) Kalhofer of Massett; Griet (Bud) Dondale of Prince George; Max (Sharon) Kalhofer of Osoyoos; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Jan in 1999; and grandson Michael Dondale in 1988.

ROBBIE, Margaret Violet - Thursday, 10 Mar 2005
The family of Margaret Violet Robbie is saddened by the passing of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law on March 10, 2005 at Chilliwack General Hospital.
She is survived by her husband Murdock Robbie; her 2 sons Byron (Joanne) Robbie of Williams Lake and Don (Sharon) Robbie of Vernon; as well as 6 grandchildren; Gillian, Kevin (Chelsea), Adam (Jennilynn), Jennifer, Kimberley, Bryan and 1 great-grandchild, Calli.
Violet (Vuy) was born February 28, 1913 in Deloraine, Manitoba. She was raised in Birch River, Manitoba, the only daughter in a family of 10 children. Vuy worked at Eatons and moved to B.C. with her husband in 1952. They raised their family in Christina Lake, B.C. and eventually settled in Chilliwack in 1970. Vuy volunteered her time for many years at the Chilliwack Crisis Line and won several awards for her outstanding community service. She was a past worthy matron of the Grand Forks Eastern Star lodge and was also actively involved in the Chilliwack Eastern Star. Vuy will be missed for her generosity, her spirit, her laughter and complete devotion to her family.
Grandma was the heart of this family. Her love and support were total and unconditional “(Marcy DeMarce)”.

Elsie Alice Penner, born Sept. 13, 1933 in Nelson, B.C. passed away at Chilliwack General Hospital on March 3, 2005.
She is survived by her husband, John P. Penner; daughter and son-in-law, Verna & Earl Dobson; grandsons, Michael & Bradley (Shannon) and great-granddaughter, Brianna; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Jackson, Margaret McQueen; sister and brothers-in-law, Lorraine & Paul Penner, Annalee & Peter Friesen and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred & Petra Nelson; her first husband, M.F. Woodward; brothers, Walter, Rolf & Victor; sisters, Margaret, Evelyn, Eileen & Dorothy.
She will be missed by all.

MacDONALD, Neil Kenneth - Thursday, 03 Mar 2005
Neil Kenneth Macdonald born on March 3rd, 1927 passed away quietly at Kelowna General Hospital on March 8th, 2005.
He is survived by his two sisters, Jesse Rice and Margaret Blohm, his sons Ken and Allan Macdonald, his daughters, Lark Hein, Lorri Sawatsky, Heather Morelli, and Holly Seekins, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Neil was born and lived in the Fraser Valley. He owned and operated N.K. Macdonald Lumber Company in Langley, B.C. for many years. Upon retirement he moved to Greendale, B.C. and then later to the Okanagan. Neil loved the Lord and his family. He will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Mar. 14, 2005 at 2 PM, at the Yarrow Mennonite Brethren Church, 41995 Yarrow Central Rd., Yarrow, B.C., officiated by Pastors Ike Bergen and Randy Hein.
A viewing is scheduled between 12:30-1:30 PM in the Yarrow MB Church foyer to give interested parties opportunity to pay their last respects. Interment will follow the service at the Yarrow Cemetery. A tea will be served at the church after the interment.
LITZ, Oskar - Sunday, 06 Mar 2005
Oskar Litz, age 87, of Chilliwack, passed away at the Eden Intermediate Care Centre on March 6, 2005 after a lengthy illness.
Oskar was born in Neuburg in The Ukraine on April 25, 1917. He emigrated to Germany in 1944 where he lived with his family until 1950. In 1950 he came to Canada, settling in Yarrow, B.C. He worked briefly as a labourer; but soon took up farming as his vocation.
His passion was building and he built a number of new homes in his lifetime. His passion continued into retirement and he could always be found in his workshop or garden.
Oskar loved to dance and was always ready for a good party. He was a devoted family man who always placed his family first. He will be sorely missed.
Oskar had a long and active life until Cancer and Diabetes took hold. He suffered greatly, without complaint until the end. We are grateful to God for ending his suffering and taking him to a better place where he will be rejoined with family members and friends who predeceased him.
Visitation will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home, Chilliwack on Saturday, Mar. 12, 2005 at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Pastor Dan Rempel officiating. Cremation, Valley Crematorium, Chilliwack
Oskar is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jakobine (nee Green); son, Hugo, wife Marjorie and their son, Jim; son, Bruno, wife Cathy, their son Wayne and their daughter Colleen.

HOCKEN, Gudren (Roonie) - Monday, 07 Mar 2005
Gudrun (Roonie) Hocken passed away on March 7, 2005 in Chilliwack at the age of 83 years. She was born August 13, 1922 in Dickson, Alberta.
Roonie is survived by her sons, Bill (Lola), Jim (Leslie), Charlie (Dorothy), Bruce (Pearl); daughters, Betty (Dale) and Peggy; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister, Sally Brandt; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Frederick Robert Hocken.
Roonie was known for her sense of humour, caring for others, and her generosity toward family and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

HOOYENGA, Lorna Elizabeth - Friday, 28 Jan 2005
Lorna Elizabeth Hooyenga passed away peacefully as the sun rose on January 28, 2005 at age 49 years. Lorna was born on May 17, 1955 in Melville, Saskatchewan.
Lorna is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Johnny, their children, Nicole (Marcel) Maillet, and Michael (Haley) Hooyenga; grand daughter Milan Hooyenga; brother Lloyd Hoedel, Abbotsford and sister, Nancy (Colin) Copland, Aldergrove.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Marie Hoedel and her step-father Walter Sjostrom.
Lorna delighted in many simple things, sewing, crafting, quilting, gardening, traveling, entertaining family and friends and the sunrises and sunsets on her mountains. Many adjectives could be used to describe Lorna; brave, courageous, loving generous and gifted. Her family and friends will remember her unique and contagious laughter, her generosity and care for others, her willingness to work and her cheerful disposition that was not suppressed even by her illness.
The family would especially like to thank all the doctors, nurses and care aides in Chilliwack General’s Emergency and Palliative Care Unit for all their care and support while she was in hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Richmond.

GRANT (nee Sturgess), Gladys - Wednesday, 26 Jan 2005
Gladys Grant, age 85, passed away on January 26th at Chilliwack General Hospital when she succumbed to pancreatic cancer. She was born on January 9, 1920 in Hamilton, Ontario.
Gladys is survived by five children: Ken (Vicki), Linda (Walt) Drage, Jack (Lisa), Roger (Juanita), Gary, nine grandchildren: Tracey (Mike), Koryn (Doug), Tannis (Senad), Shaina, Rechelle, Robert, Allix, Holly, and Alex, one great-granddaughter: Laura. Trish and MaryAnne were also special "daughters".
She was predeceased by her father Harry, mother, Blanche and brother Norman Sturgess.
Despite the many hurdles presented to her in life, she was a woman of great spirit, courage, generosity and determination who possessed an unconditional love for her children. She had a great sense of humour, made an awesome yorkshire pudding, enjoyed a good mystery, and most of all, loved cats.
She was very appreciative of the Home Support staff and, with their ongoing assistance, was able to remain in her home when her health deteriorated. The staff at The Lynnwood were like family and she enjoyed living there.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Drs. Bartel, Richmond, Schopf, Wiggins and Lim for the medical care provided to Gladys in the last hours of her life. The Nursing care in Emergency, Nursing Unit 3, OR and PACU was incredible and we thank you so much.
Gladys requested that there not be a funeral service; however there will be a private family memorial. Should you wish to make a donation in Gladys' memory, Chilliwack Animal Safe Haven, 49843 Chilliwack Central Rd., Chilliwack, V2P 6H3 would be the charity of choice.
DEHN, James (Jim) Albert - Saturday, 29 Jan 2005
James (Jim) Albert Dehn passed away - Saturday, January 29th, 2005 in the presence of his family & friends at Valley Haven Guest Home in Chilliwack, B.C. Jim was born in Surrey, B.C. on April 21, 1963. It is comforting to know that he is with his sister Valene and is now looking down at us with comfort and peace.
He will be missed by his loving wife Brenda, of 15 years; his son Joshua; his mother Patricia and his Papa Keith Jarvis; brother Rick (Lonnie) Dehn & family, sister Robynn (Tim) McFarlane & family; his brother in-law Jack Kraal & family; his dear cousin Donna (Don) Little; his father & mother in law John & Erna Dyck, brother in law, Wes (Sherry) Dyck & family, sister in law, Wanda (Dan) Baker, and many nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles. Jim was also fortunate & blessed with the dear friendship of Ed North Jr., as well as many other dear friends throughout his life.
Jim was predeceased by his father Eugene; his sister Valene; his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandparents.
Jim loved the outdoors including fishing, golfing, sailing with his friends & family, and especially found solace on Cascade Bay in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. Jim treasured his family and the time spent with them.

Piet Van Egdom peacefully at Chilliwack, B.C. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, aged 86 years.
Predeceased by his first wife Ann, and his second wife Anna.
Piet is survived by his sons, John (Theresa), Peter (Nellie), Tony (Karen), and Norm (Sheryl); his 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 at First Christian Reformed Church, 20525-72nd Ave., Langley, B.C. Reverend Alex Warneke officiating.
