McInnis-Stephen. It is with heavy hearts that the family and friends of Stephen Robert McInnis announce his sudden and unexpected passing on July 22, 2004. Steve was a good friend to many, generous to a fault, the defender of the underdog, quick to help friend or stranger in time of need or distress, saviour of stray animals, and loved nothing more than to catch up on the latest news with his many friends. Steve leaves behind his wife and best friend Maureen, his sisters Maryellen (Richard) and Lisa (Rob); brothers John (Rose) and Mike (late Sandy) sister-in-law Linda (Bruce) and parents-in-law Buzz and Claire Powell. He will be sorely missed by his beloved nieces Drea, Erin, Michaela, Laura, Kylie, Becky, Angela and Andrea; nephews Curt and Michael, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. An informal outdoor memorial service will be held at the home of Geoff and Brenda Howard, 4318 Sunrise Road on Friday July 30 at 2 pm. Flowers greatfully declined; however, in keeping with Steve's love of the mountains and forests he worked in and the wildlife therein, those who desire may make a donation in his memory to Wilderness Watch, V.F.G, c/o Dennis Martel Box 982, Lake Cowichan, B.C. Predeceased by husbands Robert Karr and Shirley LaVigne, brothers Cecil, Robert and Fred Ayling and sister Lily Karr. Survived by daughters Jackie (Don) MacNaughton and Sally Say, stepson Bobby Karr; grandchildren Mike Austin, Susan McLoughlin, David Say, Sheila Breakell and Warren Karr and six great- grandchildren. Vi (Mum, Granadma, GG) loved her retirement years in Chemainus and over the years participated in bowling, round and square danacing, swimming in Duncan and was a life member of the Chemainus Seniors Drop-In Centre where her favourite activity was playing bridge. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed all card games, crossword puzzles and was an awesome scrabble player. She will be sadly missed by her family and good neighbours. There will be no service at Vi's request.

Born in Kamloops, B.C. on March 7, 1914. Passed away March 11, 2005 in the Chemainus Health Care Centre. She leaves to mourn, her husband Farnam, two sons Kenneth Foote from Sandspit, Queen Charlotte Islands and Terry Foote (Valerie) from Chemainus; three daughters BettyAnn Olson (Bill) from Portland, Oregon, Glenna Strang (Wayne) from Cowichan Bay and Carol Barnes (Don) from Oliver, BC; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother John Noble (Gert) from Kamloops; sisters Shirley Bertoli from Kamloops and Zelma McLaren (Bill) from Delta; Farnam’s sister Flo Plunet from Nanaimo and brother Bob Foote (Vivian) from Alaska; also many nieces and nephews. When Mildred and Farnam were married they made their home in Wells, B.C. where Farnam worked in a gold mine as a miner and diamond driller. In 1943, they moved from Zeballos to make their permanent home in Duncan. Mildred’s hobbies were pottery, painting and her beautiful flower gardens. She was a Charter member of the Women’s Chapter of the Royal Order of Moose Lodge and served as a senior regent for one year. She was a loving, wonderful and beautiful person and will be greatly missed by all those who love her. The family would like to thank the staff of the Chemainus Health Care Centre and Dr. Archdekin for all the loving care they gave Mildred during her time with them. A Celebration of Mildred’s Life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, B.C. with a reception following in Sands Arbor Reception Centre. Harrison, Roger Marcel. Born on June 13, 1951. Passed away suddenly at Victoria General Hospital, 12:35 am on February 13, 2005, from complications sustained from a car accident in Duncan on the Island Hwy. Roger was born in Victoria and has resided on Vancouver Island most of his life. He was well known for his involvement in the car racing circuit. Predeceased by his sister Lynda Summer Harrison (July 21, 1952 – 1952) and his father Arthur John Harrison (Nov. 15, 1930 – March 3, 1980) who was also well known for car racing in the Victoria area. Roger leaves behind his mother and stepdad Helene and Per Aagaard (Nanaimo). He was a charming and loving son to them both. Roger was a loving and dedicated father to his daughter Marci Harrison (Duncan) age 16. She was his pride and joy. She meant the world to him. Roger also leaves behind his estranged wife Susan Harrison (Abbotsford) and stepson Robert Bors. He also leaves behind his very best friend of 14 years Tina Dyke of Duncan. Roger was the eldest of 7 children and he loved the role of big brother. He helped his mother raise 5 of his siblings Craig Harrison of Cape Town, South Africa, Brent Harrison (Sandy) of Port Hardy, Elaine McGinn (Shayne) of Nanaimo, Scott Harrison of Nanaimo and Morgan (Shelly) Harrison of the Cowichan Valley. Roger was a well loved brother-in-law and cared deeply for those who joined our family. He was a fun loving uncle and spent a lot of time with his nieces and nephews as they grew up; always taking them to the car races. Leaving behind many fond memories from Elliot Linklater, Andrew Linklater, Summer Muzyka, Chantel Meunier, Brock Harrison, Brandon Harrison, Martin Harrison, Ryan Harrison and Autumn Harrison. Roger also leaves behind many aunts,uncles, and cousins whom reside in Victoria. Roger will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 18. 2005 between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. at Mt. Brenton Golf Course, 2816 Henry Road, Chemainus, B.C. Ethel Bernice Young of Duncan, B.C. passed away on October 22, 2004 at the age of 85 years after a brief illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Cecil in 1991 and by two brothers, Charles Stuart Jamieson and Allan Jamieson of Edmonton, Alberta. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Jane (Bob) James, Duncan; Margaret (Doug) Jenkins, Victoria; Ruth (Dave) Baker, Cowichan Bay, six grandchildren; Carolyn James, Alison James, Andrew (Debra) Cherry, Laura Duckett, Deidre (Mike) Massey, Luke (Angel) Craig, Katrina Baker, ten great-granchildren; Chelsea Pollock, Blake and Brody McDonald, Aaron and Asha Rose Cherry, Sarah Duckett, Kyle and Jade Massey, Ashton Craig and Kaj Baker. Ethel was born January 10, 1919 in Drumheller, Alberta. She was a warm, loving mother, grandmother and “Nana G” whose family was the centre of her universe. She was generous and compassionate, supporting many causes and charities in her last years. She was also independent to the end, driving her own car and doing her own shopping until the day she went into hospital. Ethel worked for many years with the Ministry of Social Services. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star since 1938 and was active with Girl Guides of Canada, first as a member and finally as District Commissioner. Ethel’s family wishes to express their appreciation for the care and comfort given to her during her brief time in ICU, Cowichan District Hospital and in Royal 4 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephew and all her friends. A Celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, B.C. on Friday, October 29, 2004 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception in Sands Arbor Reception Centre. Meg passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital on Thursday, October 28, 2004. Mom was born May 14, 1920 at Kenielworth, Warwickshire, England. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Kempthorne of Westholme and Annis Powell of England. She will be sadly missed by her husband John of 65 years; her three sons Bill (Gwen), Richard, Geoffrey and her daughter Barbara (Don) Grantham; grandchildren Brian (Lisa), Anne (Terry) Haayer, Paul (Rhonda) Grantham, Sean (Christine) Grantham; great-grandchildren Joshua, Dylan, Gregor, Logan, Alistair, Clare and Rose will miss “Gran”. Meg will be especially missed by her cousin Margaret John of Salmo, B.C. There will be no service. A tea to celebrate Meg’s life will be held at the family home on Mt. Sicker Road on Saturday, November 6, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Emma Louise passed away peacefully at the Acadia Ty Mawr Lodge, Shawnigan Lake, B.C. on Friday, October 15, 2004. Predeceased by her father and mother Elisabeth and Frederick Johnson, her husband of 68 years, Ervin Odegaard, brother Fritz, sisters and brothers-in-law Laura (George Langerak), Gena (Gunder Langerak), Bertha (Wallace Nermo), Pedar Nordby and Sam Zubic. Lovingly remembered by her son’s Gerald (Mary), Lance (Sharon), grandchildren; Leanne (Rick Harrison), Lana (Dave Cech), Kim (John Hoffmann), Keli (Kelly Sinclair), Brad (Susy Odegaard), Carmen (Keith Hall), great-grandchildren; Erik, Natasha (Normand), Heather (Page), Krista and Melissa (Cech), Brandon and Megan (Hoffmann), Kirsten and Tyler (Sinclair), Cameron (Odegaard), Maiya and Mackenzie (Hall), great-great-grandchild Keegan (Taylor), sisters Freda Zubic, Ida Nordby and sister-in-law Virginia Johnson. Our mother and grandmother was born in Ordale, Saskatchewan on June 7, 1913. She married Ervin Odegaard on November 9, 1932 and moved to Nestledown, Saskatchewan. Together they operated a general store and farm until they retired to Shawnigan Lake, B.C. They made many trips back to Saskachewan to visit family and friends. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Acacia for their loving care given to our mother Emma. A special thanks to Shirley Wensley. Ruby Angus passed away peacefully in the presence of her husband, John, on October 15, 2004 at Cairnsmore Place. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 25, 1920. Ruby is predeceased by her sister Mina, her brother-in-law Bill and sister-in-law Mary. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Sandra (Bob), grandchildren; Tanya (Phil), Evan (Kelly), Andrea, great-grandchildren; Brant, Jessica, Mikaela, Tanner, Mathew, sister Dinah, brothers Dan (Betty), Ken (Agnes), sisters-in-law Grace (Bert), Betty (Fred) and brother-in-law Norman (Maureen). Ruby came to Canada with her brother Dan in 1955. She settled in the Toronto area. In 1961 she met John at the “Paisley Club” and they were married March 7, 1970 after an extended courtship. Ruby’s sense of humor was only excelled by her love or dancing. She was also an excellent cook and baker. Ruby will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Fritz and the staff at Cairnsmore Place for their love and compassion. A visitation was held on Tuesday evening, October 19, 2004 at Sands Funeral Chapel. Born January 31, 1922 in Toronto, Ontario. Passed away at Cowichan District Hospital on July 31, 2004. Predeceased by her husband Gordon James in 2000. Survived by her loving family, sons James Ross (Shirley) of Duncan and Gordon Neil of Nelson; grandchildren Brodie, Kirsten, Sean, Kimberly and Trevor; many siblings; nieces and nephews all living in Ontario and special companion, her dog Muffy. Florence was trained as a Registered Nurse in Oshawa, Ontario and moved to Kelowna in 1947. She worked as a nurse for many years and enjoyed caring for people. Family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Doctors and staff at the Cowichan District Hospital. Special thanks to the staff at Acacia Ty Mawr and Dovehill House in Chemainus who filled her last years with joy and dignity. A private family service will be held. Florence will be laid to rest with her husband in Kelowna.

Skip graduated from St. Paul’s High School and attended the University of Saskatchewan, prior to moving to the Cowichan Valley in 1966. He was employed by Slegg Brothers and B.C.F.P. Youbou, retiring in 1995. Survived by sister Sharon (Ron) Johnson, Saskatoon; brother Harry (Ann) Vossberg, Duncan; nieces and nephews Ted, Peggy, Carolin, Mark and special great-nephew Brett; also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Skip was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #69 for over 35 years. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Edward’s Roman Catholic Church, 2085 Maple Bay Road, Duncan, B.C. on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Father Frank Franz Celebrant.
