Mr. Douglas Leroy Larden
August 29, 1936 - July 18, 2004
Funeral arrangements by
Richmond Funeral Home

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our wonderful husband, father, grandfather, relaive and friend on July 18, 2004 at Ladner, BC. Born August 29, 1936 also in Ladner, BC.

Doug was predeceased by his Mom and Dad,Sam Sr. and Gertrude, brother Sam Jr. and nephew Wayde.

He is survived by his wife Anita, 4 kids, Doug Jr. (Trish), Dean, Diane (Gilles), Terri and 6 grandkids, Doug III, Jacqueline, Alexandra, Levi, Lyle and Daniel, brother Ted (Joanie), sister Lois, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

From age 6 he lived in Steveston, BC and went to school in Richmond, graduating in 1955 then marrying in 1957. After raising the family in Richmond, he and Anita move to Ladner in 1992.

Doug first and foremost loved his family, especially the grandkids. He taught them to fish and hunt and spent hours with them.

His fishing career started at the age of 12. He and Sam Jr. rented gilnet boats and fished alongside their Dad. He started trolling in 1959 with his troller Kotka. Then came Escapade (presently owned by Doug Jr.).

While fishing and raising the family, he studied for and passed his 350 T Fishing Masters Ticket, was a past president of the Pacific Trollers Assn, the Central Native Fisherman's Co-op and belonged to the Native Brotherhood of BC. A source of pride was acquiring his native status in 1999.

Mother III was his first seine boat. He and his crew of 5 survived a sinking in march 1978. His next boat Berling Sea fishes halibut, and still is in the family. His pride and joy (after family) was the seine boat Pacific Warwind which he had built in Campbell River, BC in 1979. He spent years participating in the salmon, herring and tuna fisheries off the BC and US coasts. He and Dean fished tuna in the South Pacific for two years

For approx. 6 years he chartered his boats out to the University of Oregon and completed test fisheries and water temperature studies etc, for the University.

Through fishing and travelling he made many great friends and will be missed by many.

At the time of his passing, the Warwind is fuelled up, grubbed up and sits ready to sail on tuna.

To a great husband/friend, Dad and Grandpa,
we'll always miss you.
May you have smooth sailing
and the wind on your stern.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond, BC on Monday, July 26th, 2004 at 10:00 am.

Interment, Valley View Memorial Gardens, Surrey, BC.
