JENNINGS - Joan. Passed away peacefully at her home in West Vancouver on December 14, 1998 at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband Bill. Survived by her son Paul, daughter Ann and grandchildren.
She will be fondly remembered by the many ballet students that she taught in Dundarave. She was a founder/member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Monday, December 21, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 885 - 22nd Street, West Vancouver. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

SMITH - Herbert Campbell. Born June 20, 1904, in Montreal, Quebec. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret Penney. Herbert was very active in the Presbyterian Church and belonged to Sir Issac Stern Masonic Lodge, Montreal. He moved to Vancouver in 1984 and affiliated with Prospect Lodge #172, West Vancouver. Dear father to Kathleen, North Vancouver and Allan, Edmonton; son-in-law R. Lloyd Jones and daughter-in-law Margaret Smith; granddaughters Carol (Chris Dodd), Sharon (Chris Hough) and Sheila (Tim Keon); grandsons Glen, Steven and Kevin (Jodi); great-grandchildren Jon, Andrew, Ian, Lauren, Jennifer, Heather, Carolyn and Todd. Dear brother to Violet Forbes. Predeceased by his brothers Donald and Allan and by his sister Pansy. Special thanks to Dr. Tye and the Staff of Lynn Valley Private Hospital for their loving care and support. GARSIDE - James Douglas. Age 79. Passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on December 14, 1998. Survived by his loving friend and companion Marian Snider; brother David; sister Euance; the Shoemaker family; stepdaughters Lori Chambers, Lynn Curic; stepson Barry Curic; grandchildren Matt, Chris, Chantel, Zac; as well as many relatives and friends. OSBORNE - George William. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, February 16, 1927. Died peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on December 17, 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Mollie; children John (Agnes), George S., Penny (Keith); grandsons Nathan and Michael; brother David (Sandra). George was a graduate of Royal Roads Naval College and served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He maintained a lifelong interest in naval affairs, being a President of the Naval Officers' Association of Canada (Vancouver) and Secretary of his graduating class for many years. As a longtime forest industry executive, George leaves countless friends around the world from his many years of travel. A generous volunteer, his commitments continued into his retirement and included municipal affairs, Eldercollege and various clubs among the West Vancouver Seniors. George held a special place for the Maritime Museum and the Wild Bird Trust. Retirement was full for George and satisfied his love of hiking, gardening, philately and travel. A private memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Seymour United Church, North Vancouver. STEWART - Hayden. Graduated peacefully from this life, at his home, December 16, 1998 in his 92nd year. Predeceased by Norma, his loving wife. He is survived by his daughters, Lillian Ellis and Judy Watts; sons-in-law, Brian Ellis and Dave Watts; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Hayden was a pioneer among seekers of the truth, a man of all seasons. He was a mentor and counsellor; a columnist with the North Shore News; co-founder of Narcotics Anonymous; past president Canadian Memorial Society and a TV panellist with "People In Conflict". In lieu of flowers please do a random act of kindness for someone - Hayden will love you for it. He died as he lived - on the Growing Edge.

WONDER - Christobel. Died peacefully in her 90th year at the West Vancouver Care Centre on Tuesday, December 15, 1998. Predeceased by her sisters Ruel Pitcairn and Marie Wonder. She is survived by her niece Alice Bacon, her brother-in-law Jim Pitcairn, and many cousins in the United States. A memorial service will be held at West Vancouver United Church Chapel, 2062 Esquimalt Ave., West Vancouver on Monday, December 21, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. Thanks go to Chris' special friends, Isabel Murray and Myra Hutchinson for all their care and support. CATLOW - Ina. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Ina, on December 4, 1998. She was born in Dundee, Scotland and came to Canada, as a child, to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Ina was predeceasd by her husband Harry. During her married life, she lived in Montreal, Moncton, and Calgary and settled in North Vancouver. Her two daughters, Lucille (Len) McArthur and Beryl (Peter) O'Sullivan; 5 grandchildren, David, Greig, Anne, John and Kevin survive her. She was a loving great-grandmother to 6 great-grandchildren. Ina also left many nephews and nieces in Saskatoon. She was active in curling and golfing, and a devoted member of th United Church of Canada. A service of remembrance will be held at Highlands United Church, North Vancouver, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 1998

GALLON - Phyllis May (nee Miller). Passed away December 8, 1998 at the age of 77 years. Born in Vancouver. Predeceased by her sister Juanita Parnell and brother George Miller. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Alan ("Bud"); daughters Cindy Kaplan (William) and Sandra Hutchinson (Mark); son Clark (Leslie); grandchildren Max, Joseph, Shirley, Kelly, Tamara and Scott. Phyllis will be remembered as a caring and loving person, devoted to her family and her pets, and pre-pared at all times to give a helping hand to anyone in need. KERR - Diane Julia (nee Simonet). Died peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital, December 7, 1998, in her 55th year, from complications of cancer. This generous care-giver will be lovingly remembered by her husband Grant; son Chris; step-sons Scott and Kevin; grandson Ryan; mother Annie Simonet; and other members of both Alberta families from Vermillion and Red Deer. Diane was a Registered Nurse who attended patients in Vegreville, Red Deer, Edmonton and Vancouver hospitals. She received her precious 25-year ring from St. Paul's Hospital in September. KHALIL - M. Youssef. Passed away suddenly on December 1, 1998 at age 56. He will be sadly missed by wife Amale and daughters Rola, Rima, Alexandra and his sons-in-law Andrew and Rizvan.

MELISSEN - Barbara Enid. Passed away December 8, 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer. Barbara is survivd by her daughters Maureen Beaudoin (Barry), Pam Leitch (David) and her grandchildren Quinn and Katelyn Leitch. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved friend Art Nesseth. CAMPBELL - Margaret (Peggy). Passed away on December 6, 1998 in her 98th year. Loving mother of Margaret Page, and the late Bill Page of Fonthill. Predeceased by her parents and sister, Elizabeth Rigby (Betty). Loving Grandmother of 6 grandchildren, Richard and Susan, NFLD; Douglas and Judy, Alta; Margie and Ted Trippier, Ont; Mary and Darrell Winslow, Alta; Anne and Yas Barsoum, Ont; Jim and Karen, Ont. Ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and one nephew Brian Rigby of B.C. Peggy worked for 35 years as office manager at Davis & Co., Vancouver. Very active in community service. National President of Business and Professional Woman, Councilor of the District of North Vancouver, Girl Guides, North Vancouver Tourism Association. On her retirement in 1966, moved to Fonthill to be close to her family. Active in the Welland BPW Club, Recreation of Pelham, Planning Committee of Senior's Apartments and for many years Representative of residents of the senior's apt., and also on the board of the Welland YMCA. Will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

McKELLAR - Jean (nee Robinson). On December 5, 1998. Passed away peacefully at home. Born in Vancouver, June 23, 1911, Jean was predeceased by her husband, of 60 years, Bob, infant daughter Anita and sister Phyllis. Lovingly remem-bered by her son Jim (Vera); daughters, Anne Mayall (Mark) and Marilyn Johnson and her sister Agnes Hepburn of Toronto; loving grandmother to Kathryn, Karen, James, Marika, Erika, Kari and Stacy and great-grandmother to David, Randall and Elisabeth. Also remembered by her nieces Wendy Webber, Sheila McLean, Florence Pratt and Anna-May McKellar. BROWN - Byron Robert (Bob).
Born March 9, 1936, High River, Alberta and raised in Nanton, where his family homesteaded, in 1903. Died suddenly, at home in West Vancouver, November 25, 1998, in a tragic accident.
Survived by his loving family: wife Karen (nee Bentley), son Rob and daughter Lisa; mother-in-law Grace Elizabeth Bentley, daughter-in-law Melisa and granddaughter Emma, future son-in-law Colin Adamson; sister Betty Fitzpatrick and brother-in-law Gerry Fitzpatrick, and their sons Bill (Tina), Michael (Kathy, Kelsey, Calum), and Kevin; sister- and brother-in-law Larry and Dianne Haffner and their sons Simon and Kenny, aunt Nancy Liggett and cousin Carole Kelly.
A member of Phi Delta Theta, Bob graduated from University of Alberta in 1959 with a B.Sc. in Agriculture. He worked as Sales Manager and latterly, Safety Director for Mackenzie & Feimann Industrial Chemicals for 30 years, in Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver. An ardent Scouter for over 15 years, Bob served as Cub and Scout Master in North Vancouver, culminating as District Commissioner for Capilano. He was an inspired cook and music lover who was never happier than when entertaining his family and wide circle of friends.
Bob was a gentle father and a friend to all. He is greatly missed.
A large gathering in celebration of his life and gift of love and friendship to so many was held on Monday, November 30, 1998 at Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver. Donations in memory of Bob Brown may be made to Scouts Canada or the charity of your choice.

LeBLANC - Warren Robert. Born October 2, 1969. Died suddenly November 23, 1998. To be greatly missed and loved forever by his mother, Terry LeBlanc, his father Dan LeBlanc, brother Jason, daughter Ashley Terry LeBlanc, all the Young family, all the Braley family, all who knew him in his 29 years. McDADE - Alma Vivian. Passed away November 27, 1998 in Lions Gate Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born January 3, 1917 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Survived by three sons, Richard, Michael and Bill (Joanie); grandchildren Michael and Elisa. No service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC Lung Association are appreciated.

MORGAN - Sylvia Ann. Born in Birmingham, England in 1940. Slipped peacefully away on November 26, 1998 in Lions Gate Hospital Palli-ative Care Unit after a brave two year ordeal with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her son Michael; daughter Lesley-Ann; sisters Kay (Bob), Gloria (Rob); grandchildren Dillon, Danielle and Lucas; companion Boris; many nieces and nephews and caring friends. Special thanks to Sylvia Enga, Peggy Gabbott, Heather, Jim Cormack, nursing staff and all the loving and generous people encountered through the North Shore Palliative Care Program. ANDREWS - Margery Dorothy (nee Peters). On December 1, 1998 Margery passed away peacefully in her sleep. She leaves her loving husband of forty-eight years, Alex; two sons, Bruce (Mary) and David (Christina) and five grandchildren, Greg, Christine, Robert, Madeline, William; and sister Sheila Thorn. Margery was born in Vancouver, a graduate of Crofton House School and was an avid gardener, boater and traveller.
She has been a volunteer at the West Vancouver Museum and active in the Jet Handicraft Needlepoint Group.
An Eight Bells Memorial Service will be held at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club at Jericho on January 7, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. R.S.V.P. 224-1344.

MAGEL - Anna Maria. At Newmarket, Ontario on Thursday, October 22, 1998 in her 90th year. Anna Maria (nee Porth), wife of the late Ralph David Magel, former resident of North Vancouver, North York and Winnipeg. Loving mother of Ralph and his wife Nancy of Newmarket, Ontario; grandmother of Lianne and her husband Craig Fielding of Holland Landing, Ontario, Daniel and his wife Carole Ann of Glenville, Ontario, Jennfier Coombs of Newmarket, Ontario; and great-grandmother of Mitchell, Samantha, Brooke and Ashlyn. RICHMOND - Sandra (nee van Zonneveld). Passed away December 2, 1998. She joins her dad who went before her October 14, 1998. She is survived by her two sons, James and Michael; her mother Diana van Zonneveld; stepmother Kay van Zonneveld; by two sisters and a brother, Nefri (George) Lyske, Wendy Manahan and Quentin van Zonneveld; 6 nephews and 1 niece and two grandnephews. The sons' father Ed Richmond. Born in Makasser, Borneo on May 8, 1948, she spent most of her life in B.C. She worked for the community in various ways. MILLS - Evelyn Jean (Toots). Passed away suddenly on November 21, 1998. Born July 8, 1922. Toots is survived by her husband of 54 years, Don; son Wayne (Elaine); granddaughters Lesley, Joanne and Dawn and 3 great-grandchildren; sister Peggy (Paul) Edmands; brothers Norm (Phylis) Gould, Joe (Louise) Gould; nieces, nephews and many friends. NICHOLAS - Leonard Ross. Age 65. Passed away peacefully into the Loving Arms of His Lord, Saturday, November 21, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital. Born in Guelph, Ontario. Beloved husband of wife Arlene Nicholas and father of Lisa and April. Survived by brother Grant (Cathy) Nicholas, nieces Sheila and Barbara of Guelph, Ontario, and father-in-law Harold Irving of North Vancouver. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, 220 West 8th St, North Vancouver, B.C. OSARCHUK - Irene. Peacefully at home on November 22, 1998 at the age of 88 years, with her family at her side. Irene will be lovingly missed by everyone, but especially by her family who loved her dearly.
Irene came to Canada from the Ukraine as a tiny infant. She was the eldest of eight children. Irene married John in 1928. In 1959 they settled in the Vancouver area.
Irene will be especially remembered for her genuine goodness. She was a gentle and kind person who never had a bad word to say about anyone or anything.
She was quick to reach out a helping hand. She had an incredible inner strength that helped her survive terrible tragedies. Irene loved life! She had a song, joke or a laugh for every occasion! Even in her final days she captivated with a gentle smile, a quick joke or a mischievous grin...music still enchanted her... and she loved her family and friends with a soft touch and a loving gaze.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 26, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at St.Mary's Ukranian Catholic Church, 16th and Ash Street, Vancouver.

DOLLMAN - In Victoria, B.C. on November 24, 1998. Francis William (Frank), formerly of West Vancouver, B.C. Survived by relatives in England and his dear friend, Veronica L. (Vicky) Dillaun-Calhoun, of Saanich, B.C. Born in Woodford Green, Essex, England, October 23, 1910, he came to Canada in 1923; was a long-time employee of Balfour Guthrie (Can-ada) Limited; Past President of the former General Accountants' Association; Fellow and Life Member of the Certified General Accountants' Association of Canada; Founding, Life, and Member Emeritus of the Certified General Accountants' Association of B.C.; Fellow and Life Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 1, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 885-22nd Street, West Vancouver, B.C., will be conducted by the Reverend Keith Gilbert, followed by interment in Capilano View Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined, but donations to a charity of choice appreciated.

LANGE - Bona (Betty) Elizabeth (nee Chellis). Passed away November 11, 1998, aged 89, at Inglewood Care Centre. Predeceased by her first daughter Sally. Survived by her sons Donald and Courtland; daughter Lois; grandchildren Sally, Michelle, John, David and Jennifer; as well as great-granddaughter Courtney. Born in Boston, Mass., Betty arrived in Vancouver at the age of one. Her mother Sarah Bona was a Johnston of Fredericton, N.B., one of four sisters, three of whom made the transition to Vancouver (after all this was Paradise). Betty spent her early years in the City, moving to the North Shore in the late '40's. She travelled extensively and spent a few years in Toronto to be near her grandchildren. She had many friends from her childhood most of whom have already departed and are all back together now, we presume. Betty was an avid reader, attended Art School and painted throughout her life, was an accomplished horsewoman as a young woman; was a student of ballet and opera and offered an excellent example of maternal leadership to her family. She will be missed. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Inglewood Care Centre for the excellent care and consideration they gave to her.
