MUNRO - Emily (nee Coxon). Emily passed away on March 5, 1998 in Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, B.C. Emily was born in Winnipeg and had a lifetime career in both Winnipeg and Montreal with Trans Canada Airlines, later to become Air Canada. She retired to live in West Vancouver, B.C. Emily was a co-founder of the Trans Canada Airlines Alumni Association for retirees. She leaves behind friends and family on the West Coast, the USA and throughout Canada. Emily enriched us all with her kindness, sense of humour, laughter and her generosity, she will be greatly missed. During her illness Emily was cared for in the Palliative Care Ward of Lions Gate Hospital and we thank the staff and volunteers for their wonderful care. BEZANSON - Jim Robillard. Died in Evergreen House, March 12, 1998, age 85, after a 5 year struggle. Survived by his loving and caring wife Marjorie. Jim was an avid skier, sailor and hunter, and the winner of awards in the field of wildlife conservation. He collected antique weapons, and as owner and skipper of "Maratea" was a WVYC Member. "He did everything first-class", says Marjorie. "There wasn't a lazy bone in his body. He did almost every-thing he wanted to do - except the African Safari. As owner of J.R. Bezanson Millworks, Jim was res-ponsible for creating a great many of the commercial hotels and store interiors in Vancouver. He helped many people on a personal level, including the publisher of this paper.
"I'll miss him" says Marjorie. "His will to live amazed me, but the last five and a half years were very hard. They were wonderful to him at Evergreen House".
Jim is also survived by his three daughters Gail, Denise and Sherry and granddaughter Jillian. There will be no funeral or memorial service at Jim's request.
ROMSES - Patricia Harriet of West Vancouver. Passed away peacefully on March 17, 1998 after a courageous fight against cancer. Born July 29, 1933, Nelson, B.C. Predeceased by her first husband Donald Gourley in 1959. Deeply loved by so many friends, neighbours and colleagues, she will be remembered as a woman who devoted her life completely and lovingly to her family. She lives on in the hearts of her husband Roger; daughters Katherine and Lisa; sons Gordon (Calla) and Scott (Lise); grandchildren Sandra, Cameron, Nicole, Charlotte, Hannah, Emma; father Bill Ling Senior and brothers Bill, Jack (Robbi), Jim (Chris) and Randy. ABRAM - ARTHUR ERNEST
August 24, 1911 - March 3, 1998
Arthur was born at Rapid City, Manitoba and moved west to Lynn Valley (North Vancouver) in 1920. He attended school and later found employment with Vancouver Milling and Grain Company and B.C. Telephone Company. In 1937 Art left Lynn Valley and took up land at Dempsey Lake. Arthur and Marjorie (Dench) were married in 1938. They built and operated Hillpoint Resort until the Lodge was destroyed by fire in October 1958. From 1960 to 1973 Art worked for the B.C. Government as Director of Tourist Accommodation in Victoria and as Tourist Trade Representative in San Fransisco. On retirement Art and Marj moved back to Dempsey Lake. A move was later made to Kamloops where Marj predeceased her husband. In 1996 Art moved to Senior's Haven, Barriere, B.C., where he passed away peacefully at home. Art is survived by son Arnold (Carol) at Dempsey Lake and several nieces and nephews. There will be no service by Art's request. DUNCAN - Douglas Wallace. Died peacefully, surrounded by the love of family and friends, at Evergreen House on March 9, 1998 in his 92nd year. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sybil, of 66 years, in 1995 and his beloved grand-daughter Susan in 1988. Doug is survived by his three sons Douglas (Loverne), Jim (Michelle) and Richard (Caroline); six grandchildren Peter (Paula), Michael, Gillian (Nicolas), Kyle (Nundani), David (Chris) and two great-grandchildren Tyler and Tanner. GLEAVE - Richard. Passed on Tuesday, March 3, 1998 after a brief illness. Predeceased in 1995 by his loving wife Maud. Dick will always be remembered with love by his sister Iva Hall and family; his brother Ted Gleave (Kay) and family; the Massey family; relatives in England; friends and former neighbours on Palmerstom Avenue. Dick was born in Butley, Cheshire, England and came to Canada when he was five years old. He grew up in Kamloops and became a bricklayer and stonemason who took great pride in his work. He worked on buildings such as the Marine Building, the Banff Springs Hotel, and St Paul's Hospital, as well as buildings in England and in South Africa, where he lived for several years. He was also very proud of the home he built in West Vancouver. Dick had a wonderful sense of humour, which he kept until his final days. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Kiwanis Lodge in West Vancouver for their gentle kindness to Dick in his last home. HUMPHRIES - Joan Eileen, aged 74. Died March 7, 1998 after a brief but sudden illness. A longtime resident of North Vancouver, she leaves behind her husband of 50 years, their daughter Jill Smith, son Mark Dian, and five grandchildren. Pre-deceased by son Paul and family in 1989. Joan was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, Chapter PL554 1264 and past volunteer of No 5 Neighbourhood House, Lions Gate Hospital and head of volunteer services at Fellburn Extended Care Hospital for over 10 years. RUTHERFORD - Gerry Watson. Passed away peacefully, and in dignity, at the Evergreen Nursing Home at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver on March 5, 1998. Gerry would be 87 years old this October. He has been a longterm resident of North Vancouver and was prede-ceased by his loving wife Irene in 1995. DOBEK - Rachel Susan, born November 3, 1967. Youngest daughter of Mr. Joe Dobek of Blairmore, Alberta. Moved to Vancouver in 1991 and worked as a Recreational Therapist with B.C. Rehab, following completion of her course at Douglas College. She volunteered her time to coach Little League baseball, skiing and many other organizations including the Rape Crisis Centre.
She died March 1, 1998 in an accident while driving home to Vancouver from the Interior of B.C. She is survived and missed by her dear little son Liam, of 14 months, who survived the accident. She is survived by her family and relatives including her father Mr. Joe Dobek; her brother Barry; and her three sisters Bonnie-Jean, Michelle and Denise; and many, many friends including Gregory Finnegan and the Finnegan Family.
We will sorely miss her smile and courage and her inspiration to succeed.

EMMETT - Laura 1901 - 1998
Following a brief illness and with her family at her side, she passed away peacefully on March 3, 1998. She will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law Mildred Emmett, her nephew Dennis Emmett, his wife Margaret and their children Kate and Christopher; as well as many cousins, friends and longtime neighbours in the Edgemont Village area of North Vancouver.
Laura was born in Plymouth, England, a younger sister to James who died in early childhood. She emigrated to Winnipeg in 1912 with her parents and younger sister Elsa, who died in 1922, and moved to Vancouver in 1925 with her mother and younger brother Bert, who died in 1945. She worked at the Vancouver office of Cassidy's for more than thirty years and following retirement, worked for a short time for Slinger Realty, Park Royal. In 1952 she moved from Kerrisdale to North Vancouver where she was an active member of the congregation of St. Catherine's Anglican Church.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the gentle care provided during the past months by her dedicated caregiver Irene Walls, the nursing staff of Royal Columbian Hospital and Dr. K. Miki.

WATSON - Gladys. Born in Blae-navon, Wales on April 25, 1906. Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 1998. Beloved wife of the late Harry "Jock" Watson. DYKE - C. David L. (Major). Passed away February 21, 1998, in his 78th year, surrounded by his family. Gra-duate of Royal Military College, Class of '37, veteran of campaigns in Sicily, Italy, Belgium and Holland, co-founder of Dyke and Howard, Char-tered Accountants. He filled his later years with a multitude of community and charitable work including the Reform Party, the Cy and Emerald Keyes Charitable Foundation, the Ex-Cadets of RMC and the final affairs of many of his former clients and their families. EDWARDS - Denise Lynn. Born in Vancouver on March 30, 1973. Died suddenly on February 21, 1998 in North Vancouver. Loving mother to two year old Ciera-Cassidy Noel, beloved daughter of Carolyn and Ron, and sister of Stephen Edwards, all of North Vancouver, and granddaughter of Roy and Evelyn Edwards of Chilliwack.
