AYRES - (Hurring) Edith Lillian. Longtime North Vancouver resident passed away peacefully on February 16, 1998 in her 92nd year. Survived by her loving and dedicated husband, of 41 years, Erik. Surviving children Ruth Williams of Surrey and Ron Hurring of Vanderhoof, 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, especially Edith Zagol and June and Leonard Gallazin. Lillian was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and grew up in North Vancouver. She worked for Safeway, retiring from the Lonsdale store in 1971. LESLIE - Yvonne Ida of West Vancouver. Passed away peacefully on February 23, 1998 after a serious stroke in Vancouver General Hospital. She is survived by her loving husband Pat; cherished son Cameron (Leslie) and their beloved children John, Mike and Katie. Her devoted daughter Trish Astles (Tony), their cherished sons Andrew and Kenner; her two sisters Beryl Pollard and Pat Christopherson and many nephews, nieces and friends. Yvonne was an R.N. at St Paul's Hospital, graduating in 1945. Later she was a Flight Attendant for C.P.A., then T.C.A. (Air Canada) where she met and married Pat. Yvonne led a full and caring life as a devoted mother and grandmother. Her love for children, nature and travel was evident to all. Yvonne's tenderness and kindness touched many hearts. She was the best Mom and Grandma that one could ever have hoped for. WARREN - Maria Palmira. Greatly missed on this day February 7, 1998. Devoted wife, mother and Nona. Mary was born in Vancouver, February 27, 1908. She was one of the first girls to sell newspapers in Gastown. She was a wonderful, happy, independent lady. She met her husband Charles (Chuck) at the American Can Company where they both worked. They married in 1936 and moved to North Vancouver. In retirement they moved to Nicola Lake where they spent 13 happy years. She is survived by her daughter Sharron Chubb; son Bob (Darlene); her sister Lena Tate; her grandchildren Kathy (Brad), Andrea (Dale) and Chris; her seven great-grandchildren; her two grand Pugs and all her wonderful Warren relatives. HABERSHON - Violet. Passed away in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia on February 4, 1998 at the age of 88. Born in Ponoka, Alberta on May 19, 1909. She was the only child of Reverend Theodore and Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Habershon. Her father was one of the first Baptist ministers to gather a congregation in the part of Canada, which was then known as "The Far West". Violet's parents came to Canada from England in 1907. Her mother was a music teacher and played the church organ.
Violet Habershon's life's work was devoted primarily to the Baptist Church, and in particular to the International Christian Leprosy Foundation. She was the Foundation's Executive Secretary and Fund Raiser for twenty five years. She retired from that position in 1984 at 85 years of age. She frequently visited the Leprosy Hospital in India and the medical staff there became as family to her.
For over forty years she was a member of First Baptist Church at Nelson and Burrard Street in Vancouver. She gave much of her time to the work of the church and on a Sunday morning could always be found greeting visitors, or strangers, to the Church when they arrived at the door.
Violet resided in West Vancouver for 33 years. She moved to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island in 1996 to live with a close friend.
She will be sadly missed by her friend Anne Catherine Fletcher of Qualicum Beach; her relatives in England and Christian friends all over the world.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 19, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Burrard and Nelson, Vancouver, B.C.
