McLAUGHLIN - Leslie Stanley (Les) passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 1997. Born in London, England in 1907. Predeceased by his dear wife Eva. Survived by his loving son Gary and wife Kathleen; grandson Nick; great-granddaughter Monique; sister Irene; and family and friends in B.C. A memorial service will be held at the Boal Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver on Thursday, April 17th at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donation to the B.C. Cancer Fund or the Heart Fund will be greatly appreciated.

SPARROW - Anne (nee Annie Roe) July 2, 1902 - March 29, 1997 Passed away in Lions Gate Hospital following a brief illness. Predeceased by her husband John H. "Jack", June 20, 1960 and her lifetime friend Anne Jack, November 29, 1996. Survived by cousins and many friends. Anne was a past President of the Eastern Star, Hope Chapter. A Memorial Service was held at Mount Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate Avenue, North Vancouver, on Wednesday, April 2, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation. Donations to the charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.

KALYNN - Judith (Judie) Mary (nee Anderson), born February 22, 1938 in Windsor, Ontario, lived in West and North Vancouver, and more recently in Langley, B.C., passed away on Thursday, April 10, 1997. She will be sadly missed and forever in the hearts of her loving husband John; children, Louise (Brian) Buchholz, David (Livette Atkinson) Thomson, Kim (Milt) Kruger, Michael (Kelly) Kalynn; grandchildren, Jessica B. Kody, Bryan, Daryl, Stephanie, Jessica K.; mother, Marjorie Anderson. As requested, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Society. "May your star shine bright"

HENDERSON - Mary Elizabeth, at the age of 86, peacefully left us April 7, 1997. She was predeceased by her husband, several brothers and a sister, but leaves behind one sister, Olive Hamilton, her son Ron, daughter-in-law Gail, and grandchildren Gordon and Amanda. Originally from Manitoba, Mary moved to North Vancouver to be with her family in 1972. She had worked at Stedman's Stores and as a volunteer at the Canadian Legion, North Vancouver Branch. She was loved and admired by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. The world will be a different place without her presence. Mother, we are really going to miss you.

REDWORTH - Agnes (Pat) died peacefully April 7, 1997 at age 84. She was at home with her son John and daughter-in-law Dawn at her side. Grandchildren Louise and David will also sadly miss her and her colourful stories of an eventful life in England, Rhodesia and Canada. We look forward to seeing her again when "God himself will be with us and be our God. He will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."

INNES - Doreen Clara, passed away peacefully at home April 12, 1997. A long time resident of North Vancouver. She will join her husband, Buster Innes; and is survived by her family, her sister Evelyn; sons, Rick (Shirley), Derek (Cindy), Bus (Arlene); grandchildren Meagan, Tamara, Nicole, Benjamin, Britney, Christopher, Kimberley, Jennifer; and nephew Mark (Cathy). Her amazing willpower and many strengths inspired all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered by her customers and co-workers at Safeway and by the many special friends and relatives she leaves behind. Doreen will be remembered by her involvement in the Lynn Valley Athletic Softball Club. The family would like to thank North Shore Home Support for the special care given to Doreen. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19th at 12:00 noon at 518 East 15th Street, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

CONLON - Catherine, passed away peacefully April 12, 1997, at Evergreen House. Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, June 29, 1910. Predeceased by her loving daughter, Maureen on March 25, 1997. Together again in Heaven. A loving mother to Robert (Linda); mother-in-law to Gordon; survived and loved by her grandchildren Lesley (Russell), Susan (Bill), Dianne (David); grandchildren Jason and David, Mark, Mandy; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Dylan; and many friends and family. Funeral service to be held at St. Martin's Church, 195 East Windsor Road, North Vancouver, Saturday, April 19, 1997 at 1:00 p.m.

PARKER - Laura Jane Thrift (nee Gardner) born February 11, 1965, Victoria, B.C. You are free, so very free to run, to sing, to dance through all the days of our lives and the love we shared will carry us until we meet again Passed away at home in Victoria, Saturday April 5, 1997 at 2:25 p.m., surrounded by her loving family and dear friend. For eighteen months, Laura had struggled courageously with breast cancer, never losing hope, never giving in. Her determination, her strength and her amazing zest for life inspired all those whose lives she touched. Laura is survived by her husband Patrick and sons Hayden and Macauley; parents Peter and Dorcas Gardner; sisters Elaine Kerr, Allison Boucher and Lila Gardner; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and friends. She is predeceased by daughters Mikayla (1993) and Melody (1994). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Choices in Health Care Assistance Society, would be greatly appreciated.

OTTO - Eric (Rick), born August 8, 1913 in Hercules, Alberta, died April 14, 1997, of a heart attack. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Susan W.; daughters Joyce Oostwouder and husband David, Patricia Otto; granddaughters Lisa and partner Elvin Shudo, and Tara; and brothers and sister in Edmonton, Alberta. Served with the Royal Westminster Regiment overseas 5« years, Regiment #K47766. Employed by Canada Post and C.U.P.W., 35 years. We will miss him greatly. Cremation. No funeral service. HICKS - Winifred Edith, born February 3, 1905 in Richmond, Surrey, England, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 1997, at Vancouver General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Nelson in 1977. She will be fondly remembered by her loving family, son Dr. Robert Hicks; daughter Lorayne (Richard) Harris; grandchildren Dr. Bryan Hicks and Janet Hicks, Tyler and Julie Harris; and daughter-in-law Robin Hicks, all of whom she cherished. She also leaves her sister Dorothy Ruck of Victoria. She was Past Worthy Matron of the O.E.S. Chapter #2, Past Grand Representative and a member of P.E.O. A service of remembrance will be held at Ryerson United Church on Thursday, April 17th at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

HOSKINS - Edna Meta Catherine (Street, Whitman), born Watrous, Saskatchewan, March 28, 1916, passed away suddenly, but very peacefully, April 11, 1997. Lovingly remembered by her husband, Clive; mother of Barbara and Beth; stepmother of Jim; Granny to eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister to Florence (Roy) Cooper, Bea (Ben) Lowen, Pat Johanson and Shyrl (Peter) Sandham. A highly respected teacher for many years with Queen Mary, North Star and Cloverly Schools and subsequently with Vancouver Schools. A funeral service will be held in St. Mary's (Kerrisdale) Anglican Church, Wednesday, April 16th at 1:30 p.m. Walkey and Company Funeral Directors, 738-0006

MATHEWSON - Kathleen passed away peacefully at her home in West Vancouver on Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband Charles, and survived by daughters Barbara Aisenstat of West Vancouver, B.C. and Patricia Cadman and husband Stan of Calgary, Alberta; brother Bill Schneider and his wife Anne of Niagara Falls, Ontario and sister-in-law Jean Schneider of Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren David, Neil and John Aisenstat, and Cathy and Michael Cadman, and great-grandson Shawn Cadman. She will be forever in the memory of her loving family and dear friends. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

JOSEPH - Peacefully on March 30, 1997, Chief H. Norman Joseph of North Vancouver, B.C., age 66 years. GENTLEMAN - Dorothy Ellis (Corbett) passed away peacefully on April 2, 1997 at age 86. She is predeceased by Bill, her husband of 63 years; her sister Florry and brother-in-law Jack; and brother Bob. She is survived by her brothers, Fred (Evelyn) and Frank (Shirley); her sister-in-law, Peri; her daughters, Allison (Alden) and Carolyn (Brian); her five grandsons and one granddaughter; her two great-grandchildren; her several nieces and nephews; also survived by many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Dot's life will be held at St. Andrews and St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, 2641 Chesterfield (at 27th Street) North Vancouver, Monday, April 7, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services. A TREE I wonder if a tree can feel. A tree is alive and it grows like a child. But when the axe bites into the trunk, the tree shudders and falls to the ground. The surrounding trees mourn the passing, their leaves filled with sorrow. A tree dies, a child dies. All that lives will die.

BOLAND - (nee Gilchrist) Phyllis Winnifred. Born May 9, 1916 at Carlye, Saskatchewan. Passed away in her sleep September 19, 1999 at Evergreen House, Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver to again be with her husband John (predeceased August 18, 1995). Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her sons James (Pam), and John (Sue); daughter Bonnie (Peter); and grandsons Alex, Daniel, and Ian; as well as sisters Kay and Irene and nieces and nephews Lyn (David) and Graham (Joanne). Phyllis had a love of life, and a passion for her books. While raising her family she also worked for many years at the North Vancouver District Library. She was a loving and devoted wife, a compassionate and caring mother, an attentive and generous grandmother, and a dependable friend. While she is now at peace and without pain her family and friends will certainly miss her. The family is grateful to, and has many thanks to the caring staff at Evergreen House for all their support and loving care. Cremation by request. Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 1999 at Boal Chapel, First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver 980-3451. BONE - Ella Elizabeth. Passed away September 18, 1999 at age 90. A kind and generous person. Ella will be missed by her nieces, nephews and their children. Special thanks to the North Shore Private Hospital for their care and support. No service by request.

MITCHELL - John Thomas (Tommy). Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, September 28, 1913. Passed away peacefully September 22, 1999 at Lions Gate Hospital. Will be sadly missed by wife of 67 years Gladys; son John (Susan); daughters Jo Ann (Bill) and Debby (Ken); grandchildren Leann (Dave), Lynn Ann, Warren (Amy), Jason (Andrea), Brandon; and great-grandsons Keaton and Carter. Tommy became a longtime resident of North Vancouver after he returned from active service with the army in W.W.II. No service or donations by request.

STEFANIUK - Martha (Sophie). Passed away on September 20, 1999 at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by 5 siblings: Mike, Rose, Mary, Dora and Bill. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Carl; daughters Margaret and husband George Hoar, Carol and husband Peter Snoeck; by six grandchildren Liza and husband John Bishop, Michelle and husband James Pratt, Sharleen, Corinne, Melanie and Jordan Hoar; and two great-grandchildren Katie and Kyle Bishop; by two sisters Eva Shewchuck and Jean Nock and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, September 27, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C. Sophie devoted her life to her family, especially enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

BROWN - Jim. In loving memory of Jim who passed away at age 63 on September 22, 1999 at Lions Gate Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Fern and his children: Lance (Andrea) (grandchild due in November), Kathy Shane (Debbie); grandchildren Brittany, Vanessa and Tiffany. Sisters Val Fraser and family, Gail Lovallo and family. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Eric and Rosemary Wicklund and their children. Mother-in-law Elizabeth Gray and Aunt Florence in California. Jim is also survived by many friends and relatives in Canada and the United States. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. We will miss his hugs and laughter. A special thanks to Dr. Peter Schwartz and all the nurses at the Palliative Ward for all their love and kindness shown to Jim and his family. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 2, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 2626 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver, B.C.

ROBERTS (Siemens) - Nell, age 74. Passed away gracefully on September 21, 1999 at Lions Gate Hospital. Loving mother to Katie, Charles (Kitty), Catherine and James. Granny to Emily, Hannah, Eliza and Graydon. Survived by brothers Peter, Dan, Walter, Erwin and predeceased by her brother Kon. Memorial service in celebration of Nell's life to be held at West Vancouver United Church, 21st Street and Esquimalt on Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Children's Wish Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.

DOMPHOUSSE - Alfred Claude. December 6, 1923 - September 22, 1999. Survived by his wife of 44 years Nancy (Nan) to whom he was totally devoted and by daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Peter McComber, as well as by many relatives. Predeceased by brother Bill. Claude was born and raised in North Vancouver. He was a member of the RCAF and spent 34 years in the North Vancouver City Fire Department attaining the rank of Captain. He retired in 1982. In spite of serious health problems during the last few years, he remained active to the end. Claude touched the lives of many people over the years and was considered a "very special" individual as well as a wonderful friend and dedicated family man. No service by request, but there will be an informal "get-together" at Lions Gate Hospital - Evergreen House, on Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate his life and exchange reminiscences. In lieu of flowers donations to the BC Cancer Research Centre, The Multiple Sclerosis Society or Lions Gate Hospital, would be greatly appreciated.

HARE - Helen Winnifred May. Passed away suddenly at home, October 29, 1999. A loving wife, mother, Nana and friend. She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband John, daughter Linda and husband Doug, son Robert and wife Brenda, son William and wife Linda. She is also survived by stepchildren David Hare and Terry Ilich and her sister Katherine Harding of Middletown, New York. Helen was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1965. "Nana" was dearly loved by all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Rob Jr., Geoff, Brody, Michael, Sasha, Michelle, Jeff, Greg, Phil, Brandon, Brittany. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 5, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Christopher's Anglican Church, 1068 Inglewood Avenue, West Vancouver.
