The eldest child of a British W.W.I veteran, she came to Canada alone at the age of 15 to live with relatives in Toronto. After her marriage in 1937, and the birth of their first two children, she and Bob moved to the West Coast in 1946 where he began his rise in the world of chartered accountancy. A classic "at home Mom", Marjorie nourished and nurtured her family through the early lean years and into prosperity. Always interested in music, she learned to play the piano as an adult - which increased her appreciation for the dedication and effort required to master an instrument. In the 1960's she volunteered to assist with the Kiwanis Music Festival - a position which turned into a second career, lasting until her retirement as Principal Secretary to the Festival in 1996. Over the years she encountered and encouraged scores of youngsters in all classes and categories of musical competition, eventually sponsoring her own prize for the best performance of a Beethoven piano solo. Truly it can be said that "never was heard a discouraging word" from her lips; no one who came in contact with her could fail to be impressed by her kind, generous and loving nature. She left the world a far better place for her having been here - and we may scarcely hope to see her like again. To allow friends and family from afar to attend, the memorial service for Marjorie Gardiner will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2000 in St. Agnes Anglican Church, 530 East 12th Street, North Vancouver; interment at Capilano View in West Vancouver.
