MacINTOSH - Charles Robert (Bob) P.Eng. Died December 20, 1999 in a Dublin hospital aged 71. Dear husband of Betty, loving father of David and Richard. PASSMORE - Doris Ruby (Dolly). Passed away peacefully on January 12, 2000, at the age of 94. Born in England on April 18, 1905, she emigrated to Canada in 1906, moving to Vernon in 1917, where she established her roots and family, and later settling in Vancouver in 1944. Predeceased by her husband Edwin, her son Howard, sister Gwen Heller, and son-in-law Robert (Bob) Saunders. Nana is survived and will be sadly missed by her family: daughter Violet Saunders; grandsons Brian (Kelli), Wayne (Anne), Murray (Wendy), Alan (Heide); and great-grandchildren Miles, Garrett, Christie, Jeffrey, Brooke, Meghan, Carli and Jesse. Dolly (Nana) will be deeply missed by many for all her kindness and caring, but especially remembered for her devotion to her family. MOORE -Norman (Charles). Longtime resident and school teacher on the North Shore. Passed away on December 18, 1999 at age 86. For many years he was a teacher at Ridgeway Elementary and at Montroyal School. He was predeceased by his wife Daphne, and his brother Harry. He is survived by his daughter Valerie and by his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Clarissa; by his grandchildren, Christopher, Teresa and Nicholas; and by his 84 year old sister, Jessie Moffat of Regina, Saskatchewan. He will be missed by his five great-grandchildren, two half-brothers, several nieces and nephews and many friends throughout B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. The memorial service takes place at North Shore Unitarian Church, 370 Mathers Ave., West Vancouver at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2000, with Chaplain Ron Jones officiating.
RAUER - Alfred Gerhard. Passed away peacefully at his Mill Bay home (on Vancouver Island) January 8, 2000 at 83 years of age. Fred was born December 13, 1916 in Koenigsberg, Germany. While still a child his family moved to Vienna, Austria where he grew up and attended school. Fred graduated from university with an Engineering degree in Electronics. In 1945 he married Ursula Sachse of Lubeck, Germany. In 1952 the family emigrated to Canada and settled in Montreal where Fred started an electronic business which he operated for 19 years. In 1971 the Rauers moved to North Vancouver, B.C., where they started an electronic marine business, which is operated today by son Steve. In 1988 Fred and Ursula retired from the business and moved to Mill Bay where they built their retirement home. He was an avid gardener and an active member of the Mill Bay Garden Club. Fred is survived by his wife Ursula of 54 years, son Steve (North Vancouver), daughter-in-law Helena, and grandchildren Nathalie and Stephanie. No service by request.
POWER - Wendy Anne (nee Somers). Passed away on January 11, 2000 in her Vancouver home. OLSEN - Connie. Born in Sheffield, England. Passed away at Lions Gate Hospital on January 12, 2000 at the age of 94 years. Connie, upon death of her mother, emigrated to Canada in 1921 at the age of 16. She lived with family in Agassiz until her marriage in 1929. She was predeceased by her husband Victor of 50 years. KERR - G.G.C. "Gordon". Passed away at home in West Vancouver on January 12, 2000. SEELEY, Alice Violet (nee Rist). Passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 24, 1999 in Victoria, B.C. Alice, a resident of North Vancouver from 1974 until 1998, is survived by her two sons Douglas and John, and their wives Karin and Judy, also of Victoria. Nanna was loved and will be missed by her grandchildren Darren, Heather, Margaux, Sky, Jaya, Luke and Max and her great-granddaughter Jaelan. MORAN - Siobhan Kathleen. Passed away suddenly December 28, 1999, aged 15 years. She is survived by her mother Louise, father Mick, sister Ashleen, aunts, uncles, grandfathers, cousins, extended family, and many friends. She will be remembered for the love, joy and happiness she brought into the lives of everyone she touched. WHITE - James Frederick Harrison. Passed away December 30, 1999 with his family at his side. Jim was predeceaed by Mary, his beloved wife of 59 years; also, his brother Bern; sisters Ethel, Dorothy, Kay, and Joan. He is survived by his three sons, Russell (Barb), Randy (Jean), and Arnie (Linda); and grandchildren Ryan, Meghan, Michelle, Julie, Jim and Melissa. Jim was born in Swalwell, Alberta on June 9, 1918. In 1919 his family moved to Penticton, and then to Burnaby in 1935. Jim servced in the R.C.A.F. from 1941 to 1945. Jim was the founder of White and Peters Ltd., in 1962, White and Peters was the first auto body specialist in B.C. He spent many enjoyable years building his company. Jim loved life and had many friends including all the close couples he met in the Hollyburn Gyro Club. Memories of his wit, honesty, and optimism will continue to strengthen our lives. BARRINGTON-FOOTE- Lorraine Grace. Born July 19, 1929. Passed away peacefully at home, on December 30, 1999 Predeceased by her son Stephen. She will be deeply missed by her husband Mervyn of 47 years, sons Randy (Joan), Norman (Monique), daughter Lori (Carl), 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Lorraine was a warm and caring person, devoted to her family, who showed courage and strength in the face of adversity. DAVIS - William (Bill) Walter. Born June 13, 1911. Passed away peacefully at Evergreen House on December 30, 1999 in the company of his loving wife. Predeceased by his daughter Joyce in 1994. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Rita; their son Charles (Joy); four grandchildren Terri-Lynn (Bob), David (Janice), Paul and Sharon (Randy); nine great-grandchildren Daena, Dustin, Amanda, Colin, Tyler, Joelle, Chelsea, Graham, Kendra; and son-in-law Howard (Audrey). Bill was born in Hamilton, Ontario and married in Niagara Falls. They relocated to North Vancouver in 1942 where they were proprietors of the Uptown Beauty Salon in North Vancouver for over thirty years. Bill was a friendly and caring person. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. CARMICHAEL - Allan LaPlante. Passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on January 3, 2000. Born in North Vancouver (Lynn Valley) on April 1, 1916. Allan will be remembered by many as a piano player. Over the years he entertained in many venues throughout Vancouver - most recently entertaining friends of all ages at Peppi's Restaurant for more than 20 years. He will also be fondly remembered by the many piano students who got their start with lessons at this home. He served overseas in WWII as a member of the Canadian Army Show. Allan was predeceased by his brothers Leonard, John (Archie), Doug and sister Evelyn. He is survived by his loving wife Lorna; son Lorne; daughter Mary (Randy) Mennie; grandchildren Randal and Allana; sister Mary Gibson; brother Bill (Pat); sisters-in-law Gladys and Kathey; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation will be followed by service at First Memorial Funeral Chapel at 1505 Lillooet Rd., North Vancouver on Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception in the Chapel Hall after the service. REANO - Jack. December 13, 1999, age 85. His love of life and the land kept Jack on the road until the end. His tales covered ground as well, from landing illusive trout in backwood rivers to adventures on the front lines in W.W.II. Equally at ease alone by a campfire or captivating a 19th -hole crowd, Jack was known locally from the '50s-80s as owner of Ferguson Moving and Storage. Will be fondly missed by his three children, Dave (Judy), Jan (Ian) and Paul (Karen), eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Forever in our hearts.
DUKE - Hilda Gladys. Passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 1999 surrounded by her family. Hilda was the daughter of Hilda May (Hutton) Male and Phillip Male. Born June 19, 1917, she was a lifelong resident of B.C. and a resident of West Vancouver since 1965. The second of four children, she grew up in Kitsilano with sisters and brother Minnie, Renee, and Alfie, attending Henry Hudson School and Kitsilano High School. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Joseph Howard Duke, by sons Larry and Joey, as well as by her own three siblings. Daughters Leonore O'Neill, Sandy Duke, and Wendy Duke, grandchildren, Danny, Brian, Cindy and Michael and great-grandsons Aidan and Nolan survive her. She is also survived by sons-in-law Robin Barker and Fred Moseley. As a youngster Hilda was an avid athlete, playing tennis and swimming in English Bay mornings before going off to school. Hilda and Joe met at the Pantages Theatre in a play competition, which led to their eventual elopement. They shared a passion for photography, and loved to entertain their friends, which were many. She and Joe worked together in their contracting business, Paragon Electric, for many years. Hilda became a pioneer patient in heart valve replacement surgery in the 1970's. The Squamish Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29, at 1:30 p.m., at the West Vancouver United Church, with burial to follow. RYAN - Vivian Evelyna. After a long courageous fight with cancer, Vivian passed away December 24, 1999 in Palliative Care at Lions Gate Hospital. Survived by sisters Pat Agnew at home and Alice in Houston. Vivian was a longterm employee (47 years) of Burrard Drydock Company, a friend and confidant of employees and management. A gal who made friends easily and lastingly with associates and customers. She held in very high esteem her Versatile "Family", especially the men in the yard whom she referred to as the "salt of the earth". She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A very special thanks to Dr. Douglas C.T. Coupland and the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Ward at Lions Gate Hospital who were so supportive and caring. No service by request, cremation. FRANCIS - Helena Mary. Passed away on December 21, 1999, winter solstice and full moon. She was 91 years old, and was born in London, England, May 5, 1908. A very special lady leaves behind her dearest and beloved children, Joe and Janet and their immediate families, Barbara, Mark, Vicki, Meghan, Jeffrey, Joshua, Nick, and Johanne; Joe, Greg, Karen, Tim, Alexa, Virginia, Frank and Hannah; many dear relatives and friends in England and here in Canada. Helena came to Canada when she was 80 years old, and became a Canadian citizen as soon as she could. She loved it here, and was very proud and happy. She was a very loving, caring, giving, strong and proper person, and taught us all so much. We thank all our friends and the staff at Evergreen House for their kindness and care these past months. We will miss and love you forever Mum. Cremation and private family memorial to be held. No flowers by request.
