Holmes, William Harold
March 4 1952 ~ January 15 2010
Family and friends mourn the gentle passing of Bill Holmes, in the valley he has called home for close to forty years.
He is survived by his son, Leaf McClary; his mother, Phyllis Holmes; his soulmate, Moss (Desiree Toews); his siblings Glen and Ken Holmes, Norm and Lillian Holmes, Janet and Brad Belchamber, Doug and Glenda Holmes, Carol and Steve Edgar, nieces and nephews, his step-daughter Jessica Lamontagne, and his granddaughters Ylena McClary, Emma and Myrriah Lamontagne.
Predeceased by his father Robert and brother Russell.
Bill was born in London, Ontario, March 4, 1952.
After wide travels, Bill came to the area to work in the orchards and pioneer an off-the-grid lifestyle and with Moss, converted a barn into a beautiful home and enjoyed living a simple life close to the earth.
Bill was a handy man with many skills, even built a funky camper home on the back of an old classic truck.
Bill and Moss ran a rock quarrying business together, selling facing stone to Alberta.
He lived in Creston, Wynndel, Boswell and Yahk, forming friendships with the most unique personalities you'll find anywhere.
Wherever he lived, he put his heart into beautifying with lovely gardens when he wasn't tinkering around or rebuilding to make sure that everything worked properly.
Bill bore his illness with dignity and a peaceful resignation.
Enough people loved him that he got the care he needed but would never have dared to ask for.
Bill disliked formal gatherings and there will be no official ceremony to mark his passing.
It is hoped that those whose lives he touched will celebrate Bill's life in their own way and find comfort with others who share their knowledge of what a gentle and kind man this world has now lost.
