Jim "Farmer Jim" Davies
November 11, 1941 ~ April 25, 2016 (age 74)
It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Jim “Farmer Jim” Davies on April 25, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years Cairn, daughter Christine (Gary) Cope-Davies of Denver, Colorado, son Laurence of Abbotsford, brother Ron (Esther) and family in Alberta, brother Tom in Vancouver, beloved Auntie Pauline of Vancouver.
Celebration of life services will be held for Jim at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from the chapel of Thompson Valley Funeral Home – 660 Hwy 97C, Ashcroft.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ashcroft Hospital.
Leila Patricia (Browne) Johnston
March 13, 1923 ~ June 26, 2017 (age 94)
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Leila P. Johnson on Monday, June 26th, 2017 at her home in Ashcroft at the age of 94 years. She was born on March 13, 1923 in New Westminster, B.C.
Leila is survived by her sons Tomi and Lou (Dianne) Johnston, daughter-in-law Yvonne, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Tom Johnston, daughter Nalani, son Dolan and grandson Lou Jr.
Leila was a longtime active Legion Ladies Auxiliary member in the community. She loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, and also enjoyed Hawaiian music and dance. She was an avid gardener and always enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed attending gatherings of family and friends.
Maximino (Max) Dos Anjos Paulos
September 21, 1937 ~ June 15, 2017 (age 79)
Maximino (Max) Dos Anjos Paulos was born September 21, 1937 in Grijo, Portugal and passed away at home June 15, surrounded by his family. Max is survived by his wife Esmeralda, his children Moses (Kathy), Joe (Leona), Gus (Tami) Victor (Caroline), and grandchildren: Erica, Tereza, Shanna, Breana, Danika, Monika, Alexandria, Noah, and Spencer, his brother Manuel (Jusfina) ˝ sister Maria- Eugenia (Olimpio) sisters-in-law Julianna and Maria, and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Portugal. He is predeceased by his parents, Jose and Adelia, granddaughter Sydney, sister Maria, and brothers Jose and Serafim.
Maxs’ early years were spent in the hills tending to the sheep, and getting into a little trouble with his siblings. He spent time in the army and then in 1960 he married Esmeralda, a pretty girl from a neighboring town. In 1970 Max and Esmeralda along with their young family immigrated to Spences’ Bridge, and Max began working for CN Rail. In 1994 they relocated to Ashcroft to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Max was passionate about gardening and spent many hours nurturing his grapes and pruning his trees as well as helping others with their pruning. Max enjoyed having his family around, and his home was the scene of many family meals and celebrations. He loved to stop and chat with everyone he encountered and his smile and stories will be missed by all who knew him.
The Paulos family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support, and Diane and Juanita for the excellent care they gave to Max.

KROPP, John
March 3, 1955 - April 3, 2017
John, aged 62, passed away on April 3, 2017 surrounded by his beloved family and after a courageous battle with cancer. John is survived by his two beautiful daughters Janelle and Tamara Kropp, sisters Bernadette (Robert) Gray and Laura, brother in laws Lou and Dino (Beth) Morena, and extended family, friends, and many business colleagues. John was predeceased by his wife Lina Kropp, parents Bernie and Estelle Kropp, brother in law Alex Gyori and Nephew John Bond.
John was a devoted husband and father who worked tremendously hard to provide for his family, friends, business partners, and whoever crossed his path. John loved to travel, especially to Vegas and Tampa Florida where he attended university. Dad spend much of his free time on the golf course and enjoying a cold glass (or several) of Stella beers with his friends. John was known for his storytelling, and ability to make everyone smile. He always put his family first and made sure to provide the best life he could for his daughters so they could go on countless family vacations, sometimes bringing their friends along, and allowing both Janelle and Tamara to go to university to complete their Bachelor degrees.
John will be missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at Surrey Cancer Agency for their work, and those at Eagle Ridge Hospital for providing John and the family comfort in the final days.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, Thursday, April 6th 2017 at St Clare of Assisi Catholic Parish, 1320 Johnson St, Coquitlam, B.C. Following the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m., please join the family for a Celebration of John's Life at Westwood Golf & Country Club at 3251 Plateau Blvd, Coquitlam, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation or Eagle Ridge Hospital would be appreciated.
Dobud, Adriana
September 16, 1933 - April 20, 2017
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, lala, sister, aunt and friend on April 20, 2017. With family at her side, she died peacefully at Royal Columbian Hospital at the age of 83. Predeceased by her parents and her husband Pablo. She is loved and missed by her children Vivian (Mike), Pablo, Al (Tracy), grandchildren Bradley (Holly), Danny, Michael (Casey), Melissa (Caleb), Peter, Nicholas, Trevor, Connor, great-grandson Asher, friends and her loving family members in Chile. We were all so blessed to have this amazing, caring and selfless person in our lives. She made us better people and we will always love her, her memories, her humour, her sweetness, her zest for life and her adventurous spirit. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors that cared for our loved one at RCH. You were wonderful. If you wish, donations in Adriana’s memory may be made to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
Gian Pietro Infanti
1949 - 2017
Our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and Nonno, Gian Pietro (Gianni) Infanti passed away on March 22, 2017, at the age of 67, after a short but overwhelmingly difficult battle with cancer.
Gian Pietro was born in San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy, in 1949 and was the first of three children. He immigrated to Canada in 1967 and settled in Vancouver, B.C. where he met and married his wife, Clara, of over 44 years. They settled in Burnaby, B.C. where they raised two sons, Flavio and Renzo.
In his early career, Gian Pietro worked as a machinist, welder and fabricator and especially enjoyed developing and building machinery and prototypes. In the last several years he found it both challenging and rewarding working as a consultant for the sawmill industry and in nurturing new friendships and positive working relationships with those with whom he worked.
Gian Pietro loved his family and his married life and was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. All of his grandchildren were very special to him and he truly appreciated and respected his daughter-in-laws.
Gian Pietro is survived by his wife, Clara; his son Flavio (Lisa) and their children Luca, Olivia and Nora; his son, Renzo (Tammy) and their children Gianna and Rocco; his brother, Bruno (Elodia) and their sons Stefano, Gianni (Andrea) and their daughter Maddalena, and Manuel (Ramona); his sister, Roberta, in Italy; and many cousins.
Special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at Lion’s Gate Hospital for their care and compassion in making Gian Pietro’s stay in Palliative Care as comfortable as possible and to the doctor, nurses and Randolph at St. Michael’s Hospice for their help during his final day with us.

Johnson, Gladys
Gladys Johnson ( nee Pizzey ) passed away after a lengthy illness on May 11th, 2008 at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 87 years. Gladys was born on December 15, 1920 to Lilly and William Pizzey at Leigh, Lancaster Co., England and moved to Canada at the age of 3 years. She received her education at Lethbridge, Alberta and a singing teachers certificate from the Toronto Conservatory of Music at the age of 17 years. One of Gladys life long dreams was to play the piano and organ. She was employed with the Metropolitan Stores in Lethbridge and Vancouver before marrying Harry W. Johnson on December 10th, 1943. At an early age, Gladys sang at weddings, funerals, conventions and special occasions, also did square dance calling for the Wynndel Whirlaways, conducted the Presbyterian Church Choir for a number of years before becoming a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church Choir in 1989.
Gladys was employed by Sears for a number of years as a order desk assistant. She was a member of the Creston Valley Bowling Association and bowled a 399 game, a former Pythian Sister member, a member of the Creston Valley Coronation Hospital Aux., a member of the T.A.P.S. program and enjoyed knitting.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry, five sisters and two brothers. Gladys will be dearly missed by sons Ron ( Maureen ), Tom, and Dave, daughter Judy ( Tony ), grandchildren Sharlene, Tara, Shelley, Jason, Amanda and Tonya, great-grandchildren Ben, Steven, Hayden and Isabella and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Thursday May 15th, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C. Friends wishing to make a memorial tribute may do so to the charity of the donors choice.
Enzo "Babbo" Casoli
1929 - 2017
Enzo Casoli, 87, of Coquitlam, B.C., passed away Monday, May 22, 2017.
Enzo was born July 16, 1929 in Urbino, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 and in 1959 was joined by his wife Italia Casoli and two sons Pier Luigi Casoli and George Casoli. Enzo’s working career ranged from working in sawmills to construction foreman and eventually as a successful self-employed entrepreneur in the fashion industry. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout B.C., Alberta and the North West Territories. Later in life, he took up coin and stamp collection hobbies and enjoyed gardening, building boats and spending time with his children and grandchild Jordan Casoli.
Enzo is survived by his two sons, Pier Luigi Casoli and George Casoli and his wife Margaret Eberle; his grandchild Jordan Casoli and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews all living in Italy. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Italia Casoli, with whom he was happily married for 63 years.
A celebration of Enzo’s life is planned. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Marvin Edward Smith
1929 - 2017
Marvin Edward Smith passed away peacefully on May 14 at the age of 88. A proud veteran an avid gardener, Marvin was predeceased by his wife Joan in 2014. He will be missed by his children, Arlene, Lance, Brenda and Craig; his nine grandchildren, Myles, Jessica, Leah, Sarah, Rebekah, Johanna, Jillian, Matthew and Jeffrey and his six great-grandchildren.
A. Michael Parent
1928 - 2017
A. Michael (Mike) Parent, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Coquitlam B.C. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Juanita, his brother Bernard (Rosemary), his children, Michael (Katherine), Katherine (Sean), Frances (Bill) and Janice (Henry), his grandchildren, Laura (Stephen), Andrew, Charlotte (Paul), Linda, Patrick, Allison, Johnathan, David and Michael and his great-grandchildren Julie, Lucie, Genevieve and Celeste.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the son of Ambrose and Alice Parent, Michael graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Juanita in 1953 and they relocated to Ontario where he worked in various engineering and management positions with Provincial Engineering, Canron, Esna and Slater Steel. He completed his MBA at York University in Toronto.
In 1977, he relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia to join Bow Valley Industries until his retirement.
Michael was an avid golfer having been a member of The Board of Trade in Toronto, Ancaster Golf and Country Club in Ancaster and Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver.
He was a lover of books, never leaving the house without his library card or having a stack of books on the dining room table. A lover of the arts, he shared his appreciation of classical music, theater and dance with his friends and family. Over the years Mike and Juanita had many opportunities to see the world via trains, planes and automobiles. But cruising was his favourite way to travel.
A man of faith and a devout member of the Catholic Church, Michael made prayer the cornerstone of his life.
But his true passion was his family. Michael was always there to offer advice, encouragement and words of wisdom.
A proud and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be missed.
We are deeply grateful to the nurses and caregivers at Dufferin Care Center, Eagle Ridge Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital.
