Lydia Anna Maria Hickl (nee Hennings)
Born in Ratzlingen, Germany on April 17 1930
Passed away in Creston, B.C. on June 10, 2011
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Gustav; sone Wolfgang (Sandra); daughter Barbara (Michael); brother Ewald (Helga); grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Lacoursiere, Daniel
On June 03, 2011 Daniel Samuel Lacoursiere passed away of cancer at Swan Valley Lodge, Creston B.C. at the age of 40 years.
Danny was born in Ottawa, Ontario on November 01, 1970 and attended High School in Rosetown, Saskatchewan.
He enjoyed various occupations, from professional meat cutter to chemical dependency counselor and finally a care aide. He also enjoyed his cars. Dan entered and won sound off competitions. He also volunteered for Hospice and enjoyed involvement in the Special Olympics.
He was predeceased by his father Joseph Roger Lacoursiere.
He will be dearly missed by his mother Christine, brother Stephan (Charmaine), nieces Mackenzie and Madison, two aunts, two uncles, and cousins in Western Canada and five aunts, one uncle and cousins in Quebec and Ontario.
A memorial service will be held at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, Creston, B.C. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Carl Sawler officiating.

Elliott, Frieda
Frieda Elliott (nee Bergmann) passed away June 3, 2011 at the Swan Valley Lodge in Creston, B.C. at the age of 85 years.
Frieda was born on November 6, 1925 in Saskatoon, SK. She moved to Nelson, B.C., where she received her education. On July 10, 1946, she married Edward Elliott.
Frieda enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting, calligraphy, golfing and listening to music. She was also a member of the Sketch Club.
Frieda was predeceased by her sisters Elsie, Tony and Angela.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Edward Elliott of Creston; sons Wayne (Jan) of Kimberley and Don of Wetaskawin; grandchildren Erin (Colin) Harrison of Kimberley, Jessica Elliott of Nelson, Jeremy (Debbie) Elliott of Port Alberni and Jakob (Sue) Elliott of Airdrie; great-grandchildren Zion Elliott of Nelson, Harley and Eddie Lee Elliott of Port Alberni and Justin and Tyson Elliott of Airdrie; and sisters Irene Bergmann, Ann Sherlock and Betty Millar.

Bright, Pearl
Pearl Bright ( nee Cherniwchan ) of Creston passed away on May 26, 2011 in Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 88 years.
Pearl was born January 21, 1923 in Bellis Alberta and was educated in Dickie Bush.
She met Lester Bright at Ponoka, Alberta, where they were married on February 6, 1945. The couple moved to Whitelaw, AB, where they farmed and their son Wayne was born in December 1948. Pearl also worked as a cook in rig camps. In 1968 they moved to St. Paul, Alberta, where she worked as a matron in a Seniors facility and in 1977 Les and Pearl moved to Creston to retire. Pearl went back to work in 1979 at Swan Valley Lodge as a care aid until her retirement in 1988.
She was always busy as she had to make “the day pay”.
Her passion was her flower and vegetable garden and she spent many hours keeping it weed free. She enjoyed giving away the fruits of her labour. She also spent time crocheting, knitting, quilting and a variety of other crafts. She also enjoyed playing dominoes with the group Thursday night.
She was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxillary and was always willing to give a helping hand when called upon.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lester in 1991, her grandson Trent in 2007, sister Irene and her parents John and Lena Cherniwchan.
She is survived by her son Wayne (Diane), grandson Blaine (Melanie) great-grandson Cole. She is also survived by her brother Jeff (Louise) Wade, 3 nephews and their families and also numerous friends and other relatives.
A Celebration of Pearls life will be held at a later date.
Interment of her ashes will be held at Whitelaw, Alberta at a later date.

Patton-Standen, Wesley
It is with sad hearts that we are informing you of the passing of our son, Wesley T. Patton-Standen on May 25th, 2011 at the Creston Valley Hospital with family by his side. Wesley was born February 15th, 1992 at Calgary, Alberta.
In September of 1993, he moved to Creston with his mother and older sister Melissa. In 1994, Dad Don joined the family and in 1998, the union was made official, with Wesley being the ring bearer. Little sister Rebecca ( Becca ) was born in 2003. Wesley enjoyed many laughs with his sisters and enjoyed bugging them as many brothers do.
With the aid of his computer, Wesley was able to “talk “and he enjoyed “reading” stories to the kids at First Steps Daycare. Spending Thursday mornings with the residents of Crestview Manor was a highlight of his week. Wesley also enjoyed some of the activities at Cresteramics.
During his downtime, Wesley like to chillax on his bed listening to music and stories. He was reading the Inkheart Series before his passing. Wesley also enjoyed riding on the back of his mom’s quad and cruising around Stump Flats.
He was predeceased by his grandpa Curtis Blaine Smith and grandma Patricia Ann Standen. Wesley will be dearly missed by his parents Roxanne and Don Standen, sisters Melissa and Rebecca, gramma June Smith, grampa Harold Standen, great gramma Miriam Standen, uncles, aunts and cousins, Brandon, Travis, Dustin and Terra ( Luke and Isabella ) Smith, Larry and Cathy ( Tyler and Dana ), Wayne and Deb (Colton ) Standen, and numerous family members and friends.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday June 4th, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Br# 29 Hall

Erich Sommerfeld
October 30, 1916 – October 6, 2011
Erich Sommerfeld was called to his eternal home on October 6, 2011 to be reunited with his loving wife Lucy. Erich was the eldest child born to Natalie and Johann Sommerfeld in Neitwalde, Germany on October 30, 1916. Erich immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 12 and settled in Leask, Saskatchewan where his family cleared land and farmed. In 1946 Erich visited his uncles’ farms in Lister and his Uncle Herman convinced him to buy an orchard farm. On February 1, 1947 Erich was married to Lucy Ber on Lucy’s parent’s farm in Percival, Saskatchewan. The newly married couple moved to the farm in Lister, B.C. in March. Erich farmed fruit, alfalfa and dairy/beef cattle until he suffered a stroke on October 15, 2007, after which he was forced to move in to town and resided at Hillcrest (Creston Valley Hospital) then Crestview Care Village.
Erich was a hardworking man dedicated to his land and animals; farming until he was almost 90 years of age. He made annual trips to his son David’s farm in Saskatchewan to help with harvest until he was no longer able to make the long drive. Erich had a seasonal job working at Creston Packers retiring from the packing shed at the age of 71. He also was the maintenance man for Lister Water Works retiring at the age of 77 after 40 years of service.
In 1949 Erich joined the Lutheran Church Volunteers to build Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lister where his family attended services until the Lutheran churches amalgamated in Creston. Quite often after Sunday services Erich and Lucy would visit family and friends in Swan Valley Lodge and Pioneer Villa. Erich was also involved in the Lister picnics and supported the building of the Lister swimming pool.
Erich is predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Lucy (passed away October 2, 2010), his parents, Natalie and Johann Sommerfeld, his brother Otto Sommerfeld, sister Erna Ber, sister-in-law Irma Sommerfeld, brothers-in-law George Ber and Clarence Zorn.
Erich will be lovingly remembered by his children Martha (Brian) Endicott, David Sommerfeld, Ruth (Ron) Behnke, and Ervin (Kathy) Sommerfeld; grandchildren Christy (Brett), Joanne, Mark (Bev), Steven, Jonathan, Christina and John, great-grandsons Jacob and Erich; brother-in-law David Ber and sisters-in-law Alma Zorn and Lydia Ber and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held Saturday October 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor Harry Haberstock and buried beside Lucy at the Lister Community Cemetery.
