Dortman, Rose Marie
Rose Marie Dortman ( nee McGregor ) passed away in Creston, B.C. on August 24th, 2011 after a lengthy illness at the age 76 years. Rose was born in Creston on March 24th, 1935 to Ruth and Raymond McGregor. She received her education at PCSS in Creston as well as in Vancouver.
On July 19th, 1957 she married Randy Dortman in Crawford Bay. During the period of 1957 – 1963 she was a well-respected teacher in Riondel, B.C. In 1964 she and Randy bought a ranch in Creston where they have enjoyed life for the past 47 years of their 54 years together.
She loved sports and in her younger years she particularly enjoyed softball and badminton. She won many local and rural badminton championships during her school years as well as the B.C. Provincial championship in 1952. During her many years on the ranch she enjoyed all animals and loved growing an enormous garden, as well as raising a family. She was an avid church-goer, quiet and kind yet deeply spiritual with a very strong faith in the Lord.
Rose was predeceased by her parents Ray and Ruth McGregor. She is survived by her husband Randy, sons Terry (Phoebe), Doug (Gail); grandchildren Eric, Matti, Tessa, Jamond and Jordan. She is also survived by her brother Percy McGregor (April). The service for Rose was held on Monday, August 29th, 2011 at the New Life Christian Church with Pastor Gordon Lawrence officiating. Interment took place in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erickson, B.C.

Weisbrodt, Walter (Wally)
Walter H. ( Wally ) Weisbrodt passed away at the age of 84 years at his Erickson residence on August 23rd, 2011 with family by his side, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Wally was born to Augusta and Jacob Weisbrodt on September 13th, 1926 at Regina, Saskatchewan, where he received his formal education.
Wally married Josephine Tokevich in Regina in 1947 and the couple opened a burger and fries cafe in Regina. After they moved to Calgary, Wally was employed with Canada Post as a letter carrier for about 15 years. Together Wally and Josephine raised four children and in 1987 they moved to Creston, where they retired on their five acre orchard. They attended the Creston Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife Josephine, two brothers Bill and Eric and sister Elsie. Wally will be dearly missed by his four children, thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and sister Ruth.
The funeral service was held on Saturday August 27th, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Creston Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Atmore officiating. A private family interment took place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C. on Monday August 29th, 2011.

Biccum, Arthur (Art) Norris
Arthur (Art) Norris Biccum, age 72, passed away following a lengthy illness onJuly 9, 2011 surrounded by family. Art was born in Creston, B.C. on May 5, 1939. He received the majority of his education in Creston but his last 2 years of senior high were spent inBonners Ferry, Idaho where he graduated in the Class of '58. Art married Pauline Pereverzoff on January 16, 1959 in Creston.
He was an avid outdoorsman and particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing. There isn't a mountain range in the valley that he didn't know. In his younger years he played manysports which included basketball, baseball and boxing. In his later years he loved to snowmobile, four-wheel, curl and golf. He also loved spending time with family and friends, boating and fishing on Kootenay Lake. Art worked for West Kootenay Power (Fortis BC) for 34 years before retiring in 1995. His strength, incredible work ethic, generosity and fun-loving nature is a legacy for his family and was appreciated by all who knew him.
Art was predeceased by his parents, Norris and Mary Biccum; brother Richard; grand-daughter Jaida Kooy and nephew Don Spalding. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Pauline; son Don; daughters Laurie (Bud) Heald, Debbie (Anthony) Kooy, Carrie (Rick) Czar; grandchildren Amanda & Riley Biccum, Ashley & Erinn Heald, Jacob Kooy, Reegan, Brayden & Jordin Czar; great-grandchildren Emalee & Ethan Greenwood and Scarlett Biccum; sisters Marlene Toland, Pat (Den) Nelligan; brothers Terry (Sandy) Biccum & Gerald Biccum; his mother-in-law Polly Pereverzoff along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, & nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2011 @ 2:00 pm in the Creston Room of the Creston Community Complex. Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating.

Roos, John Albert (Bert)
John Albert (Bert) Roos passed away July 6, 2011 in Creston, B.C. at the age of 87 years.
Bert was born to parents Elizabeth and Johanas Roos on February 22, 1924 in Medicine Hat, AB. After finishing his schooling in Thorsby, AB, he worked thirty years for Mobil Oil while raising his family in Buck Creek, Alberta.
He married Louise Peterson on July 2, 1982 in Edmonton, AB.
Bert enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking care of his fruit trees and also travelling in the RV. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Presbyterian Church Group and the Senior’s Club.
Bert was predeceased by his mother and father, three brothers and his grandparents.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Louise, children Debbie (Shane) Coward, Don (Juanita) Roos and Darlene (Boyd) Sawyer; five grandchildren Randy, Michelle, Justin, Kelsey and Jason; two brothers Jim and Johan; sister Isabelle and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service was held Saturday July 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gwen Brown officiating. Interment followed the service at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C.

Bea Ryckman (nee Embree) passed away June 29,2011 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary AB at the age of 80 years after a short illness, with family by her side.
Bea Ryckman (nee Embree) passed away June 29,2011 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary AB at the age of 80 years after a short illness, with family by her side.
Bea was born January 14, 1931 in Cranbrook, B.C. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Jennie Embree and the oldest of five siblings. Her elementary years were spent in Wardner B.C. After the passing of her father, they moved to Creston where she attended and graduated from Creston Valley High. This is where she met Fred Ryckman and the two were married June 18, 1955. They had two sons, Bill born in Kimberley and Jim born in Creston.
Bea showed great love for her husband and two sons and adored her grandchildren. She enjoyed many friends, going to her "Class of 49" luncheons which were always a highlight of the month and coffee with the girls at Rotacrest Hall. She loved her extended telephone conversations with her family and friends. Her exceptional strength, courage and uncanny humour always showed.
Bea enjoyed her work at the Creston Review, Kimberley News and Creston Valley Advance. Having Bea as your tour guide at the Creston Museum was great fun. Bea enjoyed her 5 pin bowling as well. At home she always enjoyed crocheting, and was a puzzle book fan.
Bea was predeceased by her husband Fred Ryckman (2009) and her parents Benjamin and Jennie Embree and brother-in-law Robert Audette, all forever and always lovingly remembered.
For all who knew Bea, you know there will only be "One Bea", that uncanny humour, that quick wit, her heart of gold with a splash of stubborn Swede. Her strength of character and free soul lives on with her sons and grandchildren.
She will always and forever be lovingly remembered by her sons, Bill (Jackie), Jim (Jacquie-Anne), grandchildren Gillian, Dione, Jordan, Marielle, Jenna and MacIntosh, sister Pat Audette, brother Dale (Emily) Embree, sister Carol Currie, sister Alice-Faye (Jim) Lines and sister-in-law Phyllis Ryckman, as well as many nieces, nephews and family.
Bea has given so much in many special ways, taking time to talk or give a helping hand. Her thoughtfulness and love will be dearly treasured and forever in our hearts. She will be missed by all near and far and by many friends and family.
Our family would like to extend our utmost gratitude and love to all in Calgary who were there for Bea.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday July 11,2011 at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating.
A private Family Interment of Ashes to take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery prior to the Service.

Dollard Alphonse Amédée Breault
May 8, 1916 –June 24, 2011
Dollard began his next journey knowing how much he was appreciated by his family, his church and his community. He died peacefully and painlessly a few weeks after his 95th birthday at Crest View Care Village.
Dollard was born in Val Racine, Quebec, the first-born of seven children. He was a farm boy and had little opportunity to attend school. During the Depression, in order to support himself and to send home money to his family, he rode the rails finding work as a farm hand on the Prairies. Eventually ending up in B.C., he worked as a miner in northern B.C. and the Yukon and then as a welder in Vancouver during the war effort. It was in Vancouver where he met his future wife, Margaret O’Rourke, and embarked on his trade as journeyman carpenter. In 1961 he moved his family to Creston and began Breault Construction. Many a carpenter in Creston served their apprenticeship with him building residential homes and larger projects including the Creston Wildlife Centre, the Rykert’s Border crossing, the Mormon Church, the Town of Creston Sewage Plant and reservoir, the Alfalfa Dehydration Plant. Tradespeople knew him as a hard worker and valued his skills and fairness.
He was a man who was admired and respected by all who knew him. Even in his dying, he will be remembered for his strength of character, his integrity and resilience. Dollard’s independence and determination were supported by the compassionate staff of Crest View Care Village.
Dollard was predeceased by his wife Margaret, and his son, Ron. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Linda Breault and son, Gary, his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and his sister Yvonne Ruel of Quebec, brother Adrien of Comox, B.C.
Prayers were held Monday, June 27 at 7:00 pm at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, June 28 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church with Father Tom Kakkaniyil celebrant. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Creston Valley Hospice Society whose volunteers were so supportive in the last week of his living – P. O. Box 436, Creston, B.C., V0B 1G0.
