Kutryk, Mabel
Mabel Irene Kutryk ( nee Malarkey ) a resident of Creston, B.C. passed away on December 7th, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Mabel was born to Anne and William Malarkey on May 22nd, 1926 at Fort Pitt, SK.
Mabel married Michael John Kutryk in Edmonton, AB on December 3rd, 1949. She worked as a teachers aid at the Alberta School for the Deaf in Edmonton and then they retired to Wynndel, B.C. in 1984.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents Anne and William Malarkey; sister Margaret Card; brothers Reginald and Raymond Malarkey and husband Michael Kutryk.
She will forever be remembered by her children Patrick, Philip and Deborah; grand children Michael Kutryk, Virginia LeMesurier, Sarah Kutryk, Jennifer Bain; great-grandchildren Michael Bain, Audrey Bain and Sapphire Kutryk; niece Grace Detlor (Card), nephews Kenneth Malarkey, William Malarkey and niece Rita Chilibeck.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Allsaints Anglican Church in Fort Pitt, SK with Interment to follow.
Bath, Phyllis
Phyllis Evelyn Bath (nee Downie) passed away after a lengthy illness on December 11, 2011 in the Creston Valley.
Phyllis was born to parents John and Annie Downie on June 9, 1922 in Didsbury, Alberta. She married Arthur Bath on her birthday 27 years later, June 9, 1949, in Trail, B.C.
Phyllis was a member of the East Trail United church and sung in their choir. She also served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corp in Toronto during WWII. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Trail Tadanac Hospital and C.S. Williams Clinic.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents John and Annie Downie. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Arthur Bath; son Robert; daughter Shirley (Bob) Bruce all of Creston, BC; grandchildren Chris (Amy) of High River, AB, Stephanie (Brian) Baillargeon and great-grandchildren Brianna and Zakhary of Oakley, CA; sisters Doreen and Pat Downie of Creston, B.C.
A Private Family Memorial Funeral Service will be held at a later date.

Van Ruyskensvelde, Alice Lorraine
With sadness, the family of Alice “Lorraine” Van Ruyskensvelde, age 65, announced her passing following a short illness on December 29, 2011. She was born in Crawford Bay on January 1, 1946, received her education there as well.
On September 1, 1962, she married Dale Van Ruyskensvelde. They settled in Crawford Bay in 1965. Lorraine worked for a short while as a chambermaid for Mountain Shores and the Kokanee Chalets until she retired in 2006. She loved baking and preserving food the garden and regularly entered in the Crawford Bay Fall Fair. She enjoyed walking and observing nature, especially birds. She was very fond of her family and enjoyed hosting family get-togethers.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, William and Alma King, her brother George King, sisters Roseanne King and Beatrice Koshlay. She is survived by her siblings Sylvia Ogloff, Pat Oslund, Bob King, Norma Hempstock, Louis King and Melvin King; her children Allan, Brett (Christy), Todd (Kelly) and step daughter Cynthia Fluery; grandchildren Troy and Nicloe (Dale) MacKenzie, Travis, Marissa and Zackary Van Ruyskensvelde, Neva and Cody Rowel, Jacob and Erich Endersby, Kent and Adwa Fluery; great-grandson Jacob Watt plus many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jack Morris Eyre
August 21, 1921 – December 10, 2011
Jack was born on August 21, 1921 to Frank and Lucy Eyre. Frank and Lucy came from Yorkshire England in 1913 and settled in Fernie, B.C. for four years. From there they moved to Cardston, AB where Jack was born, he was the sixth of ten children. In 1932 the Eyre family moved to Pincher Creek, AB and that is where Jack received his education and graduated from high school. While he attended school, he was very active in playing hockey and baseball. Shortly after graduating from school Jack joined the army and served our country during World War II. Soon after returning from the service he moved to Kamloops, B.C. where he was hired by Overwaitea Foods, and became a manager. He eventually was transferred to Creston and that is where he met his wife Peggy. Jack worked for the Wildlife Centre for a while, and then got hired by Columbia Brewery and worked there until his retirement in 1985. While he worked for the Brewery he was an executor for local 308 for eight years. Hack liked to hunt, golf and curl in his earlier years and loved fishing his entire life. He spent a good deal of time on Kootenay Lake and spent a lot of time fishing up the creeks in the Creston Valley. He was an outdoorsman and loved to work in his yard and garden. Jack will be fondly remembered as a kind, gentle-hearted man, and sadly missed by his wife; three sons; three daughters; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother; many nieces and nephews and lots of friends.
A Memorial Funeral Service was held on Saturday December 17, 2011 at the G. F. Oliver Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating. Interment of Ashes followed the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C.

Marie Sylvia Tompkins
April 27, 1916 – December 9, 2011
Marie Tompkins (nee Johnson) passed away on December 9, 2011 in the Swan Valley Lodge at the age of 95 years.
Marie was born to parents Sven and Faltine Johnson on April 27, 1916 in Strongfield, SK. Together, the family moved to Canyon, B.C. in 1937 and later they moved to Erickson, B.C., near Brennan’s Garage. Marie married Kenneth Tompkins in 1942 and they made Erickson their home.
Marie loved life and was a very caring, giving person. She was a proud member of the Erickson Covenant Church for over 70 years and made many special friendships with the congregation.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Sven and Faltine Johnson; husband Kenneth; brothers Jonas and Harold Johnson and grandson Marc Legare.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter Lavonne (Gerry) Legare; sons Allan (Linda) and Mark (Rowena); grandchildren Michelle, Kaela, Ashley, Jodi and Derek and great-grandchild Tyler Legare.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held Wednesday December 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Erickson Covenant Church with Pastor Tom Greentree officiating.
Marie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She especially enjoyed the Christmas season and the spirit of giving at this special time of year.
