RORVIK, Shirl Tuesday, 19 Feb 2008
Langley, BC
I am ready to meet my maker but whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter - Winston Churchill
It is with much sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our Mum, Grandma, Aunt, sister, friend and wife Shirl Rorvik (nee Topper) on February 19th 2008 at Langley Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. (She'll be mad we told you her age)
Shirl will be remembered by her "say it as it is" approach to life, to which she lived to its absolute fullest. Never a day went by that she wasn't redecorating her home, preparing picture albums for her grandkids (without digital photos!), enjoying life with her girlfriends (and beating them at poker), golfing, bowling or searching for a bargain to travel where the weather is better.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years John Peter, her sons Randy (Angie), Russell (Brenda) and Chris (Aline); grandsons Malcolm, Dawson, Jared, Conner and granddaughter Melina; and her brothers Ken, Raymond, Doug and twins Barry and David.
Born and raised in Abbotsford, she and John Peter raised their sons in Princeton then moved closer to work and prepared to enjoy retirement in Langley.
Her incredible wit and humorous sarcasm will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. If you shed a tear for her, she would rather it be the same tear you have shed with her before, laughing over some great joke, nearly wetting your pants.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, watermelon in one hand, red wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a children's charity of your choice in Shirl's name.
HAMELIN, Jean Louis (Charlie) Tuesday, 19 Feb 2008
Langley, BC
Born September 11, 1937 in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.
Charlie went peacefully into the arms of his Dear Jesus whom he served faithfully for 27 years on February 19, 2008.
His wife Charlene, son Keith and daughter Karen were at his side.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlene, son Keith (Carolyn), daughter Karen (Scott), two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sisters Madeline, Paulette (Ed), Rita (Jerry), Marie Claire, Pierrette, brothers Jean Paul, Michael (Linda), numerous nieces, nephews, many cousins and loads of great friends.
Charlie lived in Ontario most of his life. In March 1981 Charlie and Charlene came to B.C., they both fell in love with it and decided to make it their home. They lived on Wakefield Drive in the greatest neighbourhood in the world. Charlie worked at Ryvers Woodworks in Richmond B.C. for 15 years until Jack sold the business. From there he came back to Langley where he worked at Elite Kitchens and Bath. He also did side jobs on his own. He loved his work, it was a God given talent and he always tried to go that extra mile to please his customers. This was the last place Charlie worked; from there he went into the hospital. He truly loved what he did.
I would like to thank Dr. C. Shete and Dr. Peter Methven for all their endeavours to save Charlie's life. Charlie loved these men and was so grateful. Also I would like to thank the nurses on Two North who gave so much of themselves, they are truly Angels of Mercy.
Many thanks to Audrey who spent countless hours with me, and to Bobby & Janice and Mathew & Mariam who stayed right with me in my darkest hours and to so many others for their kind words, love and support.
Most of all I thank our Blessed Jesus who walked with him home. PTL.
My heart goes out to all of you,
Love Charlene.Service for Charlie will take place on Friday, February 29th at 1pm at Christian Life Assembly (in the Chapel), 21277 56th Ave, Langley.
KING, Daniel Richard Saturday, 16 Feb 2008
Langley, BC
Feb. 24, 1925 - Feb. 16, 2008
Dan was born and raised in Vancouver. He spent time in Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Whitehorse before settling in Richmond and later New Westminster during his 35 year career as an airline pilot with Canadian Pacific Airlines.
He was a loving Dad to Danny, Susan, Cindy & Nancy. In 1985, right after his retirement, he lost his wife Dorothy, his children's mother.
Life goes on, and he was fortunate to enjoy almost 23 years of retirement, which he shared with his wife Joyce. In place of flying, their favourite mode of transportation was a "cruise ship" and there were many adventures and many memories.
Along with Joyce, he leaves to mourn: daughter Sue, her husband Ken Fuchihara, granddaughter Leah Keenliside, and grandson Ryan Peebles; daughter Cindy and her husband Andy McInnis and granddaughters Rebecca and Jessica; daughter Nancy and her husband Rob McInnis and granddaughter Bayleigh; step-daughter Janet Jessen and granddaughters Jennifer & Emily.
Dan was a giving man, who spent countless hours on the Canadian Airline Pilot's Association Pension Committee working to achieve sustainable benefits for the pilots and he was a contributing member of the New Westminster Gyro Club for over 30 years and served as District Treasurer for 10 years.
We are thankful for the gift of a gentle man with a quick mind and loving heart - who managed to fill his almost 83 years with success and dignity. We are also thankful that his passing was gentle and dignified and that he never suffered. We have wonderful memories and we will all love and miss him for ever and ever.
Funeral Mass will take place Friday, February 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, 20675-87th Avenue (at 207th St.) Langley. A gathering with the family to follow in the church hall. Bring your memories!
