Russell Glen Adams
Suddenly on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Portage District General Hospital. Russell Glen Adams, widower of the late Lyla Adams passed away at the age of 84 years.
At Russell’s request no formal funeral service will be held.
Russell was born on September 15, 1923 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Archie & Mildred Adams. He served in the Armed Forces and Served in Italy during WW II and when he was wounded, he returned to Portage and worked at various jobs.
He was an avid camper & loved going to garage sales. He enjoyed his visits at Tim Horton’s & Lunches at Chicken Chef.
Predeceased by his parents, his wife Lyla, two brothers, Cliff & Ken, he leaves to mourn his passing two daughters Judy (Jack) McGillivary of Manitou, MB and Diane Dyck of Portage, four grandchildren; Kevin, Alan (Natalie) of Portage, Angie (Darwin) Roy of Edwin, David Dyck of The Pas, two great grandchildren, one sister Margaret and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Gail Louise Robb
June 7, 1951 – May 7, 2008
Gail Robb, beloved wife of John Fagan, of Crossfield, AB, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the age of 56 years. Gail was born in Portage la Prairie, MB and was raised and attended school in Leifur and Amaranth. She moved to Calgary in the early 1970’s and was employed with Collins Barrow for thirty years where she was a valued member of the staff. Her family circle was of utmost importance to her. She generously donated a kidney to her brother Jim.
Besides her loving husband John, Gail is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Cheryl Rodericks and Lorne and Kelly Sturtevant of Calgary; five grandchildren, Cody, Katelyn, Sunny-Lee, Chelsey and Julia-Ann. She is also survived by her father William (friend Myrtle), sisters and brothers, Sylvia (Richard), Carol Lee (Donnie), Jim (Lisa) and Dennis (Brenda) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gail was predeceased by her mother Beatrice.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 4:00 PM with the Reverend Jona Weitzel officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Christina Zdan
On Monday, May 12, 2008 at 8:55 AM, Mrs. Christina Zdan, beloved wife of the late Michael Zdan, passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 94 years.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Glenn Loewen officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
Christina Zdan was born on August 24, 1913 at Lowe Farm, MB, the daughter of David and Justina Martens. She was raised and educated at Plum Coulee, MB and moved to Portage la Prairie in 1927. She was born into a large family and learned to work and carry responsibility at a very young age. She married Michael Zdan on November 9, 1937. Her employment included farm work and housekeeping for various households and offices. She was employed for a number of years at the Portage General Hospital as a housekeeper, where she was highly respected by both patients and staff. She was a member of the Portage Evangelical Church. Her hobbies consisted of knitting, crocheting, sewing and tending to her flower garden and her family. In her later years she suffered with a heart attack and several strokes, which left her with dementia. She spent almost five years at the Lions Prairie Manor, where she was given excellent care. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Christina was predeceased by her parents, husband Michael, infant son Duncan, daughter Diana Hamm, several brothers and sisters, and sons-in-law Harold Dyck and Lawrence Hamm. She is survived by one daughter Jane Dyck of Abbotsford, B.C. and grandchildren Randy Dyck, Bethany (Dyck) Heppner, Leslie Dyck, Wesley Hamm and Crystal Weselowski (Hamm). She is also survived by her sister Mary Simpson and brother, John Martens, and many nieces and nephews. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Gideons.
Muriel Viola Wright
On Sunday, May 11, 2008, suddenly at home, Muriel Viola Wright, of Portage la Prairie, beloved wife of the late Harold Wright, passed away at the age of 78 years.
Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Julie Baker officiating. A private family interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Muriel was born on June 30, 1929 to Harold and Bessie Blair of Salem, Manitoba. She attended Salem School and Portage Collegiate where she was valedictorian of the graduating class of 1947. She took a year of nursing training then worked in Gabel’s Jewelery and the Bank of Montreal until she married Harold on June 30, 1951. They farmed together in the Bagot area until their retirement in 1990. Muriel enjoyed many interests and hobbies including antiques, scrapbooking, curling, golf, U.C.W., Tai Chi and traveling, including an around the world trip in 1994. She especially enjoyed the many friends met through 40 years of Harold’s fiddling.
Predeceased by her parents, husband Harold, and sisters Lucille and Audrey, she leaves to mourn her three children Ken (Betty) of Vancouver, BC, Cheryl (Tom) Hewitt of Mississauga, ON and Garry (Vicki) of Portage la Prairie, MB; nine grandchildren: Tracy, Jeffrey, Brandon, Julia, Rachel, Lindsey, Hailey, Stephen and Michael; four great- grandchildren: Ethan, Abigail, Alysha and Samuel. Also surviving is Muriel’s sister Anne Coltart of Winnipeg and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Muriel’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Catherine Newham-Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1A7.
George Gottlieb Streick
On Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Portage District General Hospital, George Streick, of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of Edna Streick, passed away at the age of 82 years.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 1:30 PM with Pastor John Blum officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
George was born on May 29, 1925, son of Gottlieb (George) and Wanda Streick at Emerson, MB., where he was raised and received his education at the Springbank School. He then farmed with his parents before starting to farm on his own in the Springbank district. In 1947, he married Edna Remus and they continued to farm there until 1962, when they moved to Portage la Prairie. He then was employed with Christiansons’ John Deer Farm Supply where he was employed for 30 years, retiring on April 1, 1991.
George was a member of the Lutheran Faith and attended Fraidenstal Lutheran Church and the Redeemer Lutheran Church at Portage la Prairie. George enjoyed fishing in the winter and summer. He also enjoyed bowling and going for coffee with his friends at the Co-op, and in his later years at Spriggs and Chicken Chef. He also enjoyed woodwork and renovating homes.
George was a very devoted and committed companion to his wife, and would join his wife during the last one and a half years at the Lion’s Prairie Manor, enjoying meals and entertainment.
Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Walter and Gordon, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Edna, one son, Marvin (Maureen), and grandchildren, Erica and Arron, all of Winnipeg; one daughter, Valerie (Stan) James, and granddaughter Kimberly Zalusky, grandson Travis (Lori), and great-grandchildren, Cole, Tyler, Seth, and Mia, all of Portage la Prairie. Also surviving are two brothers, Harvey (Florence), and Erwin (Gladys), all of Portage la Prairie, one sister, Lillie (Dan) Collins of Glasgow, Montana; sister-in-law, Lillian Streick (Al ) Groening of Portage, and several nieces and nephews, and one uncle.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
