Florence Marie Legault (nee Prefontaine)
Peacefully, on Monday, March 6, 2006, Florence passed away at the Foyer Valade at the age of 91.
She leaves to mourn her passing five children Raymond (Joan), Orval (Lorraine), Jeannette (Ladd) Shirtliffe, Elaine (Larry) Harder and Florent (Debbie); 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn one daughter-in-law Sue; one sister Ida Jarvis, four sisters-in-law Augustine Prefontaine, Cecile Brown, Cecile Legault and Irene Rheault, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 66 years, Oscar Legault, one son Arcel, one daughter-in-law Marge, and two brothers Eugene and Roland.
Florence was born to Blanche and Rodrique Prefontaine in Benard, Manitoba. She later moved to "le Bois d'Travers". On November 24,1937 she married Oscar Legault. They raised a family and farmed in the area until 1980. They resided in Elie until Oscar passed away in 2003. Sadly mom's independence was taken from her when she suffered a stroke only days after moving into her apartment at the Manor in Elie.
She found special joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing pleased her more than family gatherings. Mom spent many hours with her crocheting and her knitting. Each of us treasures table cloths, bedspreads, sweaters and doilies that she made with loving care. Florence enjoyed playing bingo and cards with neighbors, family and friends. Attending church was always an important part of her life.
Prayers will be said at 2:00 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Church in Elie, on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, followed by Mass of the Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m. with Monsignor Maurice Comeault, P.H., V.F. and Pastoral Assistant Reverend Deacon Conrad Plante.
Family would like to extend their thanks to the caring and compassionate staff of the Foyer Valade who lovingly cared for her for the past year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Foyer Valade, 450 River Rd., Wpg. MB R2M 5M4, or a charity of one's choice.
