Florence "Florrie" Nohlgren

Peacefully on Sunday, June 13th, 2004 at the Portage District General Hospital, Florence Catherine Nohlgren of MacGregor, widow of the late Oscar Nohlgren passed away at the age of 95 years.
Florence was born on January 16, 1909 daughter of Bayard and Gertrude Cook at MacGregor, Manitoba where she was raised and received her education.
She was employed at several homes and later for Bob Lamb’s store.
In 1931 she married Oscar Nohlgren and they resided in MacGregor where her husband was employed with the C.N. R.
Florrie was a longtime member of the MacGregor United Church and a member of the Ladies Aid and served as secretary for several years.
She was also a member of I.O.D.E. at MacGregor. Her interests included sewing, knitting and reading. Her greatest hobby was doing crossword puzzles.
All her years she enjoyed cooking for all those who called by for a meal.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband; Oscar in 1990, four brothers; Neil, Archie, Roy and Norman, two sisters; Jessie Gair and and Edna Smith.
Surviving are two sisters; Evelyn Farley of Portage and Ethel Smith of Mississauga, Ontario and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service was held at the MacGregor United Church, MacGregor, Manitoba on Wednesday, June 16th, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Quentin Robinson officiating.
Hymn selections were "Beyond The Sunset", "Praise My Soul The King of Heaven" and "Abide With Me" with Isobelle Wright presiding at the organ.
Honorary Pallbearers were: John & Sylvia Boschman, Ada Booth, Milford Kilfoyle, Barry & Jenette Donnelly, Carl Berquist, Herman & Beth Weber and Duncan & Bev Lamb.
Active Pallbearers were Mesrss: Gerald Farley, Kenneth Gair, Diddie Olsen, Cory Thurston, Darryl Thurston and Don Hodge.
Interment followed in the MacGregor Cemetery.
If friends so desire memorial donations may be made in Florence’s name to the MacGregor Personal Care Home, 87 Grafton St. S. MacGregor, MB., R0H 0R0 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Rose Rosalia Perchak

On Sunday July 25th, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rose Rosalia Perchak beloved companion of Clarence Favel passed away at the age of 86 years.
Prayers will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Home this evening, Thursday, July 29th, 2004 at 8:00 P.M.
Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday, July 30th, at 11:00 A.M. with Deacon Bill Parrack officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery.
Rose was born on August 31, 1917 daughter of John and Anna Andrushak near Riverton, Manitoba.
The family moved to Haywood, Manitoba where she completed her education. In 1937 she married Frank Perchak.
They farmed in the Grey Municipality where they raised their family of four Children.
In 1963 she moved to Winnipeg where she has since resided.
Rose was an active member of the Ladies Group of St. John’s Layland church.
She enjoyed the great out doors, nature and especially animals.
In her earlier years she was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed many seasons of hunting right up until she was 66 years.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing flowers and canning preserving the produce form her garden.
Rose thoroughly enjoyed country western music and socializing with her friends at dances or over a game of bingo.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband; Frank Perchak, one infant son; Billy Frank, one grandson; Daron, two brothers; Andrew and Tom Andrushak and two sisters; Sophie Rowe and Jean Pertel.
She leaves to mourn her passing her companion since 1964; Clarence, one son; Billy George (Pauline) of Portage, two daughters; Helen (Mike) Paplinski of Edmonton, Linda (Paul) Baudry of Montreal, seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister; Kathleen Wiely of Edmonton, one sister-in-law; Rose of Brandon and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made in Rose’s name to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E. Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 0K8.

Mary "Ida" St. Goddard

On Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Portage District General Hospital, Mary Ida St. Goddard of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Emile Albert St. Goddard passed away at the age of 77 years.
Prayers will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday evening, July 23rd, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. with the Reverend Father Michael Wollbaum officiating.
Funeral service will be held at the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 24th.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery.
Ida was born May 20, 1927 daughter of Michael and Mary Lamirande at St. Ambroise, Manitoba where she was raised and received her education.
She then helped out on the home and several farms in the St. Ambroise and High Bluff districts.
She also worked the Elite Theater during the war years.
In 1942 she married William St. Goddard and they resided at St. Ambroise.
In 1957 she married Emile St. Goddard and they resided in Brownleaf and Estbank, Saskatchewan before moving to reside in Portage la Prairie in 1959.
Ida was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church. She centered her life around her family and home.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. Her home was always open for a meal to those who called by.
Ida was also a gifted seamstress and made many outfits for her children.
Ida’s greatest joy was her family and grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband Emile in 1978, one son; Donald, two brothers; Clifford in 1997 and Edward in 1996.
She leaves to mourn her passing her four sons; Carl (Theresa) and Jerry, all of St. Ambroise, Raymond of Portage and Bow (Paula) of Elm Creek, daughters; Wilna (Reg) Ducharme and twin sister; Wilda (Tony) Ducharme, Helen St. Goddard and Linda (Florien) Allard all of St. Ambroise, Sharon (Ted) Richards of Portage la Prairie, Sandy (Jimmy) Caskey of MacDonald, Mary (Marcel) Berard of Winnipeg and Darlene St. Goddard of Portage, twenty five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Also surviving are two brothers; Roy (Milta) of Langruth and Walter (Cindy) of Winnipeg, two sisters; Delia (Ray) Olson of Winnipeg, Terry (Arnie) Goulette of Stonewall, several nieces and nephews and life partner for the past twenty six years; Richard Danielson of Portage la Prairie.

Shirley Stoyuck

We regret to announce on July 22nd, 2004 at the Portage District General Hospital, Shirley Stoyuck of the Manitoba Developmental Centre, Portage la Prairie passed away at the age of 61 years.
Funeral service will be held in the Aspen Centre of the M.D.C. on Thursday, July 29th, at 1:30 P.M. with Chaplain Ron Siemens officiating.
Shirley leaves to mourn her passing her loving sister; Gloria Sokalski, two nephews; Greg and Chris (Jane) Sokalski and two nieces; Theresa (Rich) Navis and Beverley (Greg) Kochuk.
Shirley lived many years at the Manitoba Developmental Centre and will be missed by her many friends and family.
Memorial donations may be made in Shirley’s name to the Resident Benefit Fund, M.D.C., 840-3rd Street NW, Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 3C6.

Raymond James Williams

Peacefully, on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Portage District General Hospital, surrounded by his family, Raymond James Williams, of Austin, Manitoba, widower of the late Betty Jean Williams passed away at the age of 83 Years.
Raymond was born on March 17, 1921, son of Elizabeth and Osbourne Williams at Pine Creek, Manitoba.
Raymond was raised and received his education in the Pine Creek District.
On October 20, 1951, he married Betty Johnston.
They continued for farm in the Pine Creek District until 1956, when they moved to Austin to raise their family.
Raymond worked at Shilo, Manitoba, where he worked as a cook, then joined the CPR where he worked for 15 years before joining the Campbell Soup Co. in Portage, where he worked there for 20 years before retiring.
Raymond was a great gardener and always had one of the nicest gardens around which everybody admired.
He was always willing to help people in need.
He loved to work on his and his family’s vehicles: and he also loved woodworking.
Raymond also volunteered his services with the Austin Cemetery Committee.
"Pop" as he was called by all his grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved to watch his children and then his grandchildren playing hockey, baseball, soccer and growing up.
Predeceased by his parents, his wife Betty in 1999, two sisters: Betty and Louila, he leaves to mourn his passing, his son Gordon (Thelma) their children Robert (of Austin), Tammy, Cheryl of Thunder Bay, Ontario; daughter Donna (Rodney) of Portage their children Tanya, her son Markus, Ryan (Becky) their son Carter, & Muggy; son Harvey (Rolande) of Portage and their son A.J.; son David (Lisa) of Winnipeg and their sons Jeffrey and Douglas.
Also surviving are his brothers; Lionel (Nan) Williams of Delta, BC, Sam (Ada) Williams of Carberry, his sisters; Blanche Switzer of Portage and Agnes Carrothers also of Portage, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service was held in the Austin United Church on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Peggy Reid officiating.
Sheila Harper and Muriel Sugitt gave eulogies.
Soloist Becky Blair sang "Amazing Grace" and "My Jesus Tis Now" with Connie Bryce presiding at the organ.
The Hymn selections were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Bulb There Is A Flower".
Honorary Pallbearers were Donald & Dorothy Wicklund, Roy & Gwen Storie, Henry & Barb Schellenberg and Fred & Loreen Amann.
Active Pallbearers were Mesrss: Wayne Loeppky, Ron Amann, Keith Carrothers, Merv Lamb, Wes Caister and Orville White.
Flower bearers were Tammy Williams, Cheryl Williams, Tanya Blair and Becky Blair.
Attending in their respective group were staff from Can-Oat Milling.
Interment followed in the family plot at Austin Cemetery.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Portage District Hospital Foundation, to the Austin Cemetery Fund, or to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services.

Andrew (Andy) L. Zurkan

Unexpectedly, on Friday, June 11, 2004 at the Portage District General Hospital, Andrew (Andy) L. Zurkan passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years.
Andy was born in Winnipeg, on October 25, 1911.
Followed by some years on the Homestead at Sadlow, Manitoba, the family moved to the Carman area in 1924 and farmed there until 1935 when they moved to the Portage area.
Farming was not really his fancy, consequently he became involved in Commercial Winter Fishing on Lake Manitoba for 50 plus years.
He was an expert trapper and an accomplished carpenter until his retirement.
Predeceased by his wife Helen (Kowcun) in 1979, he is survived by his daughters Sylvia Simpson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Francis McMillan of Kenora, Ontario, and his brother Boris of Portage.
His Brother Curly, and sisters Catherine (Caye), Olga, and Anastasia (Tess) have passed passed on.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service will take place at a later date in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Andy’s memory to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation.
"Gone But Not Forgotten"

Muriel McKenzie (Simpson)

Peacefully at home on Sunday, July 18, 2004, Muriel McKenzie of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Allan Howard McKenzie passed away at the age of 84 years.
Muriel leaves; son Bill and Marian of Calgary, Alberta, granddaughters; Shauna, Karen, Heather, Laura-Leigh; son Byron and Margaret of Salmon Arm, British Columbia; granddaughter; Kathy (Neil) Germaine, great grandchildren Joseph and Tyler; and grandson James.
Also surviving are sisters Helen Clements and Jean Boddy, brother Harold Simpson, sister-in-law Mary McKenzie and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Jessie and Thomas, husband Allan Howard and brother Charles.
Muriel was born and raised in the Salem District.
After a brief career in bookkeeping Muriel married Allan and started a farming career in Burnside and West Prospect Districts before moving to Winnipeg for thirteen years working in the retail industry.
She retired and moved back to Portage in 1986.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Catherine Newham-Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 1A7.
A Memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday, July 23rd, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with the Reverend Margaret Scott officiating.
Following the service friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of fellowship in the Magnolia Reception Center at the Omega Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the family plot at the Burnside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Wednesday evening, July 21st from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
