She was predeceased by her parents Lydia and Richard Labossière.
Nancy was born and raised in Winnipeg. After graduating from St. Maurice School, Nancy went on to become a bookkeeping machine operator at Gambles of Canada. She was involved in school outings, hot dogs days, book and bake sales at École Centrale. She spent many hours running the Bingo at East End Community Club as well as working the canteen. The family’s love of ringette got Nancy involved with the Transcona Ringette Association, and the Winnipeg Ringette League. In 2005, Nancy won Ringette Manitoba’s volunteer of the year award.
When she wasn’t volunteering, Nancy enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Long Lake. Norm and Nancy enjoyed many hours of fishing and playing card games with family and lake friends.

Menno Penner

It is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to Menno Penner who passed away at the Swan Valley Hospital following a brief struggle caused by a hematoma. He reached the age of 86 years and 10 months.
Menno was born to John D. Penner and Katherine Loewen Penner on May 27, 1927 at Rosenort, Manitoba. He grew up in a large family on his father’s farm and attended school in Rosenort Country School. He gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized by Minister G. F. Goossen in December 1942 into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He stayed true to his vows until the end.
When he was sixteen his mother died and his father remarried. As a young adult he worked with his brothers on his parent’s farm and in the bush during the winters.
In August 1950 he married Pauline Esau from Crooked Creek, AB sharing 63 wonderful years of marriage together. They settled into farming in Rosenort where their home was soon blessed with four children.

Menno was a loving, generous and sociable man who made many friends and acquaintances. He loved to travel. Throughout the years they wintered in Texas and travelled to many locations including all of The States, Russia, The Holy Lands and all across Canada. He enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles, and spending time with family (especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren) and friends as often as possible for both happy and sad occasions. He will be most often remembered as always having a pocket full of candy for everyone he met or a coin for little children.
He is survived by his beloved wife Pauline; son Cliff (Tammy); daughter Jennie; son-in-law Jose Arroyo; grandchildren Kaylyn (Estuardo) Figueroa, Chris (Kimbre), Jeff (Danielie), Jolene (David) Loomis, Randy (Shyla), Justin (Candace), Patrick, and Kurtis (Montana) and; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers George (Martha), Gladwin (Ella), Leonard (Evelyn), Johnny (Naomi), Melvin (Elvera), Ken(Darlene), Wayne (Phyllis), Rick (Karen), and Darrell (Carolyn); sisters Vera Nightengale, Dolores Miller, and Janet (James) Goossen; brothers-in-law Alvie (Rozella) Esau, Wilbert Esau, Lee (Naomi) Hiebert, and Bert (Rosalyn) Penner; sisters-in-law Priscilla Reimer, Mildred (Harvey) Cardinal, Esther Penner, Naomi Penner, and Doris Esau; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family.

Douglas Jennings

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Douglas Richard Jennings on June 5th, 2017 at the age of 59. Doug was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves to mourn his two daughters, Brittany Jennings, and Kelsey Wasney (Keith), three siblings Blair Jennings (Jeannette), Diane Ashton (Leon), and Cindy Nelson (Kevin), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Doreen Jennings.
Doug was born in Winnipeg, MB on October 18, 1957. After several moves, his family finally settled in Regina, SK. He was the eldest of four children and enjoyed family camping trips and holidays to the States where many memories were made. At the age of eighteen, Doug returned to Winnipeg to start his adult life. With a keen interest in mechanics, he used his skills and knowledge in his work at CN Rail, Fort Garry Industries, and New Flyer Industries. He also enjoyed spending time in the garage tinkering on the family vehicles. Many of the skills Doug acquired throughout his lifetime were self-taught, including computer skills, carpentry, and electrical.
Doug enjoyed golfing, fishing and curling in his leisure time. He had a passion for sports and enthusiastically cheered on his favorite team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Doug also enjoyed gaming, cooking, and had a diverse taste in music, from Def Leppard to Harry Belafonte to Tchaikovsky. He had a witty sense of humor, a knack for trivia and enjoyed reading the dictionary in order to enhance his vocabulary. He loved learning, as long as it wasn’t in a classroom!
Doug was married at the age of 28 and welcomed the births of his two daughters, Brittany and Kelsey. Fond family memories were made camping and fishing at St. Malo, with many hours spent around the campfire roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories. Disney movie nights and family vacations were also highlights for him. He coached both of the girls’ softball teams and he was their biggest cheerleader. He also enjoyed teaching his children how to skate and fish. He passed on his love of the outdoors, sports, music and learning to both of his girls.
While married, Doug was involved with his church and became a full member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. He went through the RCIA program, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight for four years.
In the last few years, he resided at Columbus Villa where his interest in cooking was rekindled. He would often seek out new recipes and experiment with ingredients to create a gourmet meal for one. He enjoyed watching game shows and always knew the answers before the buzzer. He would have been a champion had he been a contestant.
Doug will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held to celebrate Doug’s life on Friday, June 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph the Worker Parish.

Robert McGregor

Robert James McGregor was born June 7, 1946 and the world was made better for it. An amazing husband of 44 years to Kathy and loving father to Laurel, Tracy, Carrie (Cory), Colleen (Shawn), Ashley, Kathryn (Scott), and Melissa (Richard), doting grandfather to Ava, James & Andrew and big brother to Gayle (Rhonda).
Predeceased by his mother Mary and father James,
Dad/Bob lived life with enthusiasm and kindness; always open to new experiences and a friend to all he met. He will be remembered as a lover of Hawaiian shirts, volleyball, local sports teams and geocaching with Kathy. But most of all, he will be remembered for his unwavering and boundless love for his family.
Bob was born at St. Boniface hospital and spent the rest of his life in St. Vital, much of it in the exact location of his childhood home. He worked for the Federal Government, primarily with Public Works Canada until his “retirement” when he assumed a new role as president of the PTA followed by work at Assante, Fisheries & Oceans, the Department of Agriculture etc. He was also actively involved in the community as an avid player in local volleyball and bowling leagues.
We would like to extend a warm thank-you to Dr Loiselle, Dr. Wong and the staff on 7AW at St. Boniface Hospital for the care & compassion they provided to our family.
Please join the family Thursday, August 10th at St. Vital Cemetery at 10:00am followed by a gathering at Wheeler Funeral Home at 11:30am to celebrate his life and to share stories.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Ciwko, Raymond

Peacefully with his family by his side Ray passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his wife Antoinette (Toni), daughter Erin and son Ryan along with his sister Claudia Olson (Eric), brothers Doug (Liz) and Rich, brother in-law Richard Wansbutter (Barb), father in-law Edward Wansbutter (Elena) and extended family, along with friends and coworkers. He is predeceased by his mother Pauline and father John.
Ray was born in Winnipeg, spending most of his youth in Transcona. He graduated from Murdoch MacKay and attended RRC receiving both his telecommunications and computer analyst programmer certification. He worked at a number of grain companies and later settled in as a network administrator at Seven Oaks School Division.
He was a bit of a risk taker in his youth, enjoying his many toys, especially his vintage 61 Corvette. Ray and Toni were married in 1989.Ray took a lot of pride in his kids accomplishments. He was happy with the young adults they had become and wanted only the best for them. He took an interest in both their lives and attend as many of their functions as he could throughout the years.
He was a hands on guy, who always enjoyed working on different projects, whether it was construction, vehicle repairs or computers. He was not afraid of a challenge in order to get it done. His latest project was renovating the family cabin. Though trying at times it was a job that provided him a lot of satisfaction. He enjoyed chatting and updating the Star Lake neighbors of the progress on the cabin. Unfortunately, he fell ill and was unable to see the full completion. We will try to make him proud and finish what was started.
Cremation has taken place and as per Ray’s request a private ceremony will take place.
Thank you to the staff in the palliative care unit at St. Boniface Hospital and especially Dr. Martin. In lieu of flowers donations to Cancer Care would be appreciated.
Our family would also like to thank everyone who helped us out during this trying time. Whether with a card or a casserole, a ride to the hospital, flowers or just to be there to listen, there are no words that could relay how grateful we are.

Rodney Smith

It is with extreme sadness that we are announcing the untimely and sudden death of Rod Smith. Rod (and you didn’t ever call him Rodney even in jest!) was born January 24, 1955, in the Town of Mount Royal, Montreal Quebec. He was the second son to Ernie and Pat Smith, born just 16 months after his big brother Stephen (Steve, married to Karen Fissel). Following 4 years later, was his first little sister Margaret (married to Gordon Anderson).
Rod’s Dad Ernie worked for Canadian National Railways, and the family transferred with CN a few times during Rod’s childhood. The first move came in 1962, to Oakville Ontario. The next move was in 1965 to Winnipeg Manitoba. While only short term, the family was there for the big storm and flood of 1966.
A year later, the family was back in Oakville. It was 1968 when Rod became a big brother once again, to Karen (Married to Patrick Englehart) By 1969 the family was back in Montreal, setting roots in the West Island (Pierrefonds).
It was here that Rod’s love of sports began to flourish. A fan of all sports, Rod especially loved and played hockey. He was Captain of the “Pierrefonds Pirates” Junior B hockey team, and continued to play hockey throughout his life.
Growing up in Pierrefonds was a fun time for Rod. He attended Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School, where he graduated, and attended John Abbott CEGEP. He had many friends, loved to party and travel, a theme that carried throughout his life. And if you didn't have your quarter for gas - you were not getting into his car, which all his close friends could attest to!
When Rod was 19, he left home to work with the railway, and traveled all over Canada. It was lonely work, living on the tracks in bunk houses, and he would read books to pass the time. He must have loved Winnipeg, because when the train stopped there one day in 1976, he resigned, found a job with Air Canada, and Winnipeg became his home.
Working with Air Canada was a great fit for Rod and his love of travel. The only thing Rod hated about the job was the requirement to have a damn tie for “J” Class! But travel he did, with Jamaica and Bob Marley high on his favorite spots to visit.
In 1980, he met Rose Arnould, at a party in Lorette. They became friends and it took a decade before they figured it out. Rose was the first girl he ever brought home to meet the family, so we knew she must be “the one”. Family life suited Rod, and he absolutely loved being Dad to Kevin and Derek, and was so proud of their accomplishments. The next 20 years flew by, life went on with weddings, nieces and nephews being born. Many a night was spent playing the dice game with Roger and Olga Arnould, along with other family members. Rod was a hockey guy through and through, and he played with the old timers every year. He loved his football and his Cowboys, and of course golf!
Rod tried to get back to Montreal every year to get together with old school friends Bush, Lister, Billy, Norris, and Kenny, and also to see his old Air Canada buddy Bruce (Mr.Magoo) in Vankleek Hill.
Rod retired from Air Canada in 2009 at age 54. He recently joined the cribbage league at the Legion and crib became another passion. Rose retired this past September, shorty after they enjoyed a family vacation through Europe. They were looking forward to many more years of travel, golf, cribbage, and friendships.
Rod was predeceased by his “Mum”, Pat Smith. Along with his Dad, Ernie and siblings, he will be tremendously missed by his life partner Rose, his sons Kevin and Derek, Brother-in-law Paul (Debby) Sister-in-laws Lorraine Martens (Gary), Jackie Hornsby (Wade), all of his nieces and nephews, extended family, and many good friends.
Respecting Rod’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A celebration of Rod’s life with refreshments will be held at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 23rd from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Please join us in celebrating the Rod we all knew and loved. Casual attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Rod's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 6 Donald Street Winnipeg, Maniotba R3L 0K6
