Florence Gray

Florence Ella Gray of Swan River, Manitoba passed away on January 6th, 2013 at the age of 74 years. Florence was born on August 17th, 1938 at the Nordville Nursing Home in Birch River, Manitoba to the late Bill and Phyllis Gray.
Her family moved shortly after her birth to Arborfield, Saskatchewan where she received her education. She then moved to the Flin Flon, Manitoba area, got married and had her five boys. She eventually settled in the Swan Valley in 1967 where she raised her family up until 1981. She then gained employment within the Swan Valley Health Facilities as a nurse’s aid for approximately 13 years. She then furthered her education as a massage therapist which she did up until her retirement in 2003.
After retirement she engulfed herself in volunteering, camping, travelling and spending time with family and friends. Florence enjoyed really life with friends and family as well as dancing, playing crib and her time at Whitefish Lake. Something that held a very special spot in her heart was the Christmas supper that she put on at the Anglican Church for the past ten years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are: her sons Wayne, Blaine, Randy, Sheldon (Gayle) and Larry; her brother Maurice (Myrna); her sisters Evaline and Janet (Jim) Russell; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Friday January 11th, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the St. James Anglican Church, Swan River, Manitoba. Venerable Tom Stradwick officiated. Following the service a fellowship luncheon was held at the St. James Anglican Church.
Cremation has taken place at Heritage Memorial Gardens. Florence will be laid to rest at a later date in the Crandell Cemetery, Birch River, Manitoba.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Florence’s honour may be made to the Swan Valley Food Bank (Box 2945 Swan River, Manitoba, R0L 1Z0).

Elmer Theodore Deters

After a few months of struggling with health problems, Elmer Deters passed away at the Swan Valley Health Centre on January 10th, 2013 at the age of 76 years.
Elmer was born on May 28th, 1936 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan to the proud parents Herman and Anna (Renneberg). Herman Deters’ family moved from Oldenberg, Germany to Le Mars, Iowa where Herman was born. When he was 13, the family homesteaded to Cudworth, Saskatchewan.
Anna Renneberg’s family moved from Hogen, Germany to settle in Heidelberg, Minnesota where Anna’s father was born. He later got married and moved north to Cudworth, Saskatchewan where Anna was born.
Herman and Anna met and got married in Cudworth, Saskatchewan. They had four children; Clarence, Elmer, Joseph and Caroline.
When Elmer was 11 years old the family moved to a farm south of Minitonas, Manitoba. Therefore, Elmer got his early education by going to a country school in Saskatchewan and continued in Ravensworth School a few more years in Manitoba.
After this he helped on the family farm. Elmer loved the farm with horses, cattle, pigs and chickens. Later he took over the farm until his retirement when he would move in with his brother Joseph to Swan River for the winter months and back to the farm in the spring.
Elmer was predeceased by his parents Herman in 1971, Anna in 1984, his eldest brother Clarence in 2006 and Clarence’s wife in 1998.
Elmer leaves to mourn: one brother, Joseph of Swan River; one sister, Caroline of Oblate Sisters of Winnipeg; two nieces, Lana Hrappstead (Conrad) with their three sons, Richard, Alan and Brian of The Pas, Manitoba and Andrea Yarema (Mike) with their two children Alexandra and Matthew of Winnipeg, Manitoba as well as cousins in Alousa, Manitoba and in Saskatchewan.
Pallbearers were: John Carmichael, Louis Delaurier, Marc Bouchard, Erwin Denischuk, Joe Heiget and Leon Delaurier.
Honorary pallbearers were the Knights of Columbus.
A funeral service was held in Swan River, Manitoba at the St. Columba Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday January 16th, 2013. Prayers and viewing took place at 1:30 PM prior to the service. Mass took place at 2:00 PM by Father Roy Georg Vazhaplankudiyil. The Swan River CWL served a lunch following the service. Cremation has taken place at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Swan River, Manitoba. Elmer was laid to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, Manitoba.

Agusta Mary Cocks

Agusta Mary Cocks of the R.M. of Minitonas, passed away in the Swan Valley Health Centre on January 10th, 2013 at the age of 66 years.
Agusta was born in Birch River, Manitoba on June 26th, 1946 to Jim and Mary Pope. Agusta received her education in Bowsman, Manitoba.
On October 8th, 1968, Agusta Married Earl Gilbert Cocks of Minitonas, Manitoba, in the chapel of the Swan Valley Hospital.
Earl and Agusta lived from 1968-1978 in the Town of Minitonas, the they moved to the R.M. of Minitonas, until her passing.
Agusta loved gardening, skidooing and travelling.
Left to mourn her passing is ther husband Earl Cocks; sons Larry Cocks and James Cocks; sister Doreen (Bert) Grills; brother Albert (Lorraine) Pope, Fred (Chris) Pope and Jim (Linda) Pope; five grandchildren, Jenine, Robert, Hailey, Ashton and Kaelan.
In keeping with Agusta’s wishes cremation has taken place with burial at a later date.

Jean Hlady

In the early morning hours of January 26, 2013, at the age of 93 years, Jean Hlady peacefully passed away at the Swan Valley Lodge surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born in Garland, Manitoba on May 5, 1919 to the late Andrew and Pearl Rosiak. She lived on the family farm in Garland until 1935 when she married Peter Hlady. They shared 54 years of love and laughter until Peter's passing in 1989. She lived in Cowan from 1935 to 1971. Besides raising her family in Cowan, Jean worked as a camp cook for various employers. In 1971 she moved to Swan River. She provided room and board to many people who quickly became her friends. Jean worked at the Swan Valley Lodge as a housekeeper until her retirement.
Jean's family was first and foremost in her life, being a devoted Mom and Babka came absolutely natural to her. Jean enjoyed gardening, crafts, cards, bowling and was the best cook ever, she was well known for her delicous perogies and donuts.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Elsie Kreshewski (Alex) and her sister Stella Nash. Jean is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Cindy Bobick (Don), Connie Gray (Brent), Rick Kreshewski (Joan), Cheryl Nelson (Brent), Carol Burman (Don), Michael Hlady, Daniel Hlady (Dawn), 18 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Peter, her son Metro, twin infant sons, 5 sisters and 7 brothers.
Evening Prayers were held on Thursday, January 31st, 2013 at 7:00 PM from the Chapel of Paull Funeral Home, Swan River, Manitoba.
Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 1st, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church, Swan River, Manitoba with Father Peter Pidskalny officiating.
Active Pallbearers were Michael Hlady, Daniel Hlady, Brent Gray, Don Bobick, Brent Nelson and Don Burman.
Following the service Jean was laid to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, Manitoba
Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Jean's honour may be made to the Swan Valley Lodge in care of the Swan Valley Health Facilities.

Delvin George Audy

Delvin George Audy of # 1 Amisk St., passed away on February 8th, 2013 at the age of 54 years. Delvin was born in Birch River, Manitoba on May 10th, 1959 to Helen and Jack Audy. He received his education in Birch River.
Delvin married Delilah Rosteski of Birch River on August 25th, 2012.
Delvin was a fisherman on Swan Lake, a sweet grass picker, bush cutter, mechanic, a jack of all trades.
He is survived by his wife Delilah; Children Patsy (Clarence), Stephanie, Stanford; sisters Sandra (Daniel) Cook, Lavina Stevens and Joyce Audy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
My husband Delvin was a wonderful man. He could take anything apart and then re-build it; also he loved his fishing on Swan Lake, afterwards, he would visit Lester at the Farm; picking sweet grass at the big rock as well as at Kettle Hills in the summer time, as well as berry picking. He loved helping his buddy’s Mike Brass and Marcel Brass fix things. He also had a little sweetheart, her name was quack-quack, and she used to call Delvin, honey. He had a lot of love for his grandchildren, he loved going to Swan River to visit the grandchildren at his daughters Patsy’s place. He was so happy when the twins were born. He had some special children in his life, his grandchildren Sadee Girl, Sage, Colin, Keith, Cameron, Kianna, Bryton, Claire, Phyllis, Jaylyn, and all the other children of #10 Highway. We used to gather with the children from the highway and have a weiner roast in the back of our yard. The kids were so happy, they used to hug him and say thank you Grandpa or Papa, and we love you. I’ll never leave you I always love all the children of #10 Highway, Delvin is gone, but he is also watching over all of us.
He volunteered to help with anything on special occasion, Treaty Days, Jam Days and cutting people’s grass for the Elders. Rest in Peace my husband, Dad, Grandpa, Papa, we all will miss you very much.
A wake service was held on Friday, February 15th, 2013 at 3:00 PM, from the Audy Residence, with the wake continuing on from the Birch River Legion Hall, Birch River, Manitoba.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 17th, 2013 from the Birch River Legion Hall, with Pastor Ferlin Abrahamson officiating.
Active pallbearers were Daniel Genaille, Mike Brass, Lester Brass, Lawrence (Puss) Brass, Marcel Brass, Charlie (Bone) Brass, Dave Paul, Darren Audy, Gordon Brass, Gregory Stevens, Rene Gambler, Max Kematch, Frances Stevens and Gary Stevens.
Honourary pallbearers were Thelma Brass, Velda Brass, Joanne Audy, Marissa Linklater, Evelyne Chartrand and Mary Paul.
Honour guard was Ella Church.
Cremation will take place at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Swan River, Manitoba.
Delvin will be laid to rest at a later date.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Delvin’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

Edna Bauder

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edna Bauder our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, who passed away at the Swan River Valley Health Centre on February 17th, 2013.
Edna was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba on October 6th, 1925. She lived at Salt Point, Manitoba, where she met and later married Aurther Joseph Fidler. Edna and Arther had 12 children.
In 1958 Edna and her children moved to Birch River, where Edna met and married Ron Bauder and together they had 3 children. They resided in Birch River until 1969, when they moved to Churchill, Manitoba. They resided at Churchill until 1974, when they moved to Thompson, Manitoba. Edna worded and raised their family until the children grew up and left home to start their own lives. Ron and Edna moved to Dauphin, Manitoba, where they resided for 3 years until they decided to move to Swan River, Manitoba to live out their retirement years.
Edna is survived by her husband Ron; children Clarence (Garry), Doug, Garold (Karen), Darlene (Jim), Geraldine, Dallas, Greg, Gloria, Ron (Lois), and Darren; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings Bucko (Babe), Francis (Willie), and Angel (Camille); sister-in-law Carol, and Pat (Merv), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edna was predeceased by her parents Sandy and Rosalie Campbell; children Melvin, Brenda, Nelson, Eddie, and Ralph; as well as her siblings Walter, Helen, Alice, Gordon, Ralph, Pauline and Clarence.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 from the St. James Anglican Church, Swan River, Manitoba with Venerable Tom Stradwick officiating.
If friends so desire, memorial donations in Edna’s honor may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Cremation has taken place at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Swan River, Manitoba.
Edna will be laid to rest at a later date in the Crandell Cemetery, Birch River, Manitoba.

Gilbert "Baby Boy" Chartrand

Gilbert “Baby Boy” Chartrand of Swan River, Manitoba, passed away on February 28th, 2013 in Swan River, at the age of 68 years.
Gilbert was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba on July 21st, 1944 to Fred G. and Madeline Chartrand. Gilbert received his education in Camperville, Manitoba.
On July 8th, 1961, at St. Columba Catholic Church, Swan River, Gilbert married Gertrude Josephine Chartrand of Eddystone, Manitoba.
During their life, Gilbert and Gertrude lived in Briggs Spur from 1961-1987; he did logging in the Cranberry Portage area until 1984, due to an injury he was off work until 1986, when he started construction work with Kushniryk Construction Ltd., from 1986 until 1995; Gilbert began working for the Swan River Friendship Centre Housing in 1995 and stayed there till his retirement in 2007.
Gilbert's hobbies and interest included hunting, quading, visiting with friends and relatives, listening to fiddling music and playing cards.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Gertie Chartrand; sons Gilbert Jr. (Frances) of Swan River, Denis of Swan River and Pat and Wanda also of Swan River; daughters Karen (Mark) of Dauphin and Rachel of Swan River; 17 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his daughter Kathleen on August 5th, 1989; father Fred G. Chartrand on September 7th, 1979; mother Madeline Chartrand on October 14th, 2011 and Great-grandson Brody on August 19th, 2007.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 7th, 2013 from the St. Columba Roman Catholic Church, Swan River, Manitoba with Father Roy George Zazaplankudiyil officiating.
Gilbert was laid to rest in the Birchwood Cemetery following the service.
Active urn bearers were Daphne Chartrand, Stephanie Letain, Donvan Chartrand, Paullie Chartrand, Dennis Chartrand Jr. and Travis Church-Chartrand.
All friends and relative were to consider themselves as honourary pallbearers.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Gilbert’s honour may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Cremation took place at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Swan River, Manitoba
Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium was honored to have served the family.
