Joe Ronald Bresky

Joe ‘Ronald’ Bresky of Swan River, Manitoba passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 14th, 2013 at the age of 45 years, after a long battle with cancer.
Joe was born August 19th, 1967 in Swan River, Manitoba to Abe and Carol Bresky (Broome) as a child Joe went to Heyes Elementary School.
When Brenda and Joe were 2 or 3 years of age, it was late March, spring mud puddles were all over the place.
Grandpa Bresky came into the yard laughing, did I see what they were up to. The two had taken all their clothing off and were smearing mud all over, hair especially all you could see was their whites of their eyes. This same thing happened with Bonnie and Shelly a few years later, only to have their uncle Donny to find them. On a hunting expedition between Merv, Joe and Jennifer they went to shot a deer. Well Joe shot a bad shot, they tracked for a long ways finally Merv got a shot at it and took off his jewels. The poor deer just stood their legs spread saying Joe please shot me, which he did. Always known to buy Vikki her smarties.
Abe Joe’s dad is going to tell you about Joe’s working years.
When Joe was old enough to do bush work he started out helping his dad running power saw and skidders and later on slasher. This took place at Bacon Lake for his Uncle Kenny, after a few years they moved back to the valley to work for Uncle Herb and Ricky. Run slasher for Collin Lucan later to take up truck driving for Herb and Rick, log hauling, grain and fertilizers and chemicals. Joe really enjoyed his work as a truck driver. As a teen be went to Slave Lake with Norman Graham and family. He sort of became their family as well. They did logging out there and in the evening and weekends he was a bouncer at a bar this was fun, knocking heads around.
Joe and Jennifer met through mutual friends unknown to one another in March of 1996. Friendship grew to love and they got married on the home property flower garden with family by their side on June 14th, 1997, in the RM of Kenville, Manitoba. That day was a special day as it stopped storming that morning long enough for sunny skies and the wedding to take place outside. After the ceremony it rained the rest of the day.
Joe and Jennifer joined a blended family that day on June 14th, 1997. On November 5th, 1997 Chantelle Elizabeth Bresky was born. Joe was a proud papa and loved all of his kids.
Joe’s hobbies were; horseback riding, hunting, fishing, camping, berry picking, ski dooing, feeding the pet fish, and video gaming, mudding in a back field from time to time and being outdoors. Joe loved and sought out adventure. He particularly enjoyed and was often near and around various types of bears on his outdoor adventures, always had a story to share.
Joe was a family man, devoted to his wife and children. Always there to support and drive his own children wherever they asked or needed to be; friends house or event. Joe was a huge supported of youth group and drove his own and also other people’s children to and from locations; home to church to home. He always made sure everyone was safe and got to where they needed to be.
Joe devoted his time to help his father, mother, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles, cousins and friends whenever he could. He was a doer. Always had time for kids and played video games with them, or gave quad or bike rides, and horse rides for them.
If you needed something Joe would make sure you had, even if he went without.
Joe was a hard working man always giving a 110 %. Joe loved driving semi trucks; had long hours, little rest, as most drivers do in that profession do. He pressed on anyway doing what he loved doing until he retired on September 4th, 2012 due to a terminal illness and poor health conditions.
While Joe had a challenge to face and battle to fight he was always making jokes with the medical staff at Swan River Hospital and in the Palliative Care Unit. He always had a good healthy sense on humor, despite the challenges and adversity. He kept positive.
Joe did all the things on his bucket list; in this time and made many memories with many loved ones and friends.
Joe was a devoted father – on his “good days” after his chemo, he drove his daughter to school every day so she would be warm in the coldest winter months.
Joe enjoyed some ski dooing with his son Allan on Abe’s farm.
Joe went on a rescue mission to help his son Kyle just outside of Yorkton when he got a flat tire and brought his boy home for Christmas.
Joe always thought of others before he thought of himself.
Joe shared this story with his wife Jennifer; once when asked by someone who saw him in the hospital a friend said to Joe. “I wish I could trade you places “so you could be better”. Joe said “No” and smiled and continued to say “better me then you because I wouldn’t wish this on anyone – I am okay, I am a fighter”.
Joe truly was a fighter with a teddy bear gentleness and kind soul, for those he loved and cared for. Protective father, devoted husband, loyal to family, loyal friend, good honest hard worker.
Joe – you were always an inspiration to everyone. Loved and sadly missed – you fought your battle with true grace, courage, and strength till God called you home and said “your work is done”.
Joe is survived by his wife Jennifer Bresky; daughter Chantelle; sons Kyle and Allan; father Abe Breaky; mother Carol Macky; stepfather Merv Macky; sisters Brenda Bresky, Mary-ann Bradley (Vern), Shelly Graham (Howard), and Bonnie Tetlock (Grant); brothers Ron Bresky, Peter (Dayna) Bresky; niece Vikkie Bresky (Mervin Graham), and many nieces and nephews and other family members too many to mention.
Joe was predeceased by his grandmother May Broome; aunt Delores Broome, and Peggy Bresky; cousin Norman Bresky; cousin Bailey Bresky and as well as other family members to numerous to mention.
Evening visitations were held on Sunday, March 17th, 2013 from the Chapel of Paull Funeral Home, Swan River, Manitoba.
