Helen Hutch (nee Demedash)

Peacefully surrounded by her family, Mom passed away on May 29, 2012 at the Gimli Community Health Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Dan, in November, 1997.
Mom was born on January 10, 1920 and raised on her parent’s farm (Sam and Anna Demedash). Mom was the last surviving member of a family of 12 children. She married Dad in 1939 and took up farming on the Hutch homestead where they raised their family and both lived out their entire lives.
Mom enjoyed the simple things in life; beautiful sunsets, the changing seasons and the beauty of Mother Nature. Her favorite pastime was reading, gardening and going for walks. She was a terrific cook and seamstress but her true love was the time she had with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom and Dad loved to dance, cherished the time spent at church and the church choir.
Helen leaves her children, Danny (Ardith), Irene Angus, Penny (Robert) Malinowski, Randy (Valerie), grandchildren Kandy (Ken) Chic, Benjamin Angus (Lindsey Smith), Erin (Mark) Baragar, Suzanne Malinowski, Jennifer Malinowski, Leanne Hutch, Christopher Hutch, and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Katharine Chic, Tyra Angus, Dayton Turner and Malin Ross. Mom is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary (John) Demedash and Stella (Bill) Demedash and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass celebrating Mom’s life will take place at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli, MB - 58 N 5th Ave. on Monday, June 4, 2012. Viewing will be at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at the Dnister Cemetery after the service.
Pallbearers will be Ken Chic, Benjamin Angus, Mark Baragar, Christopher Hutch, Nicholas Chic and Lloyd Demedash. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kandy Chic, Erin Baragar, Suzanne Malinowski, Jennifer Malinowski and Leanne Hutch
The family would like to give a big thanks to Doctor S.V. Anne Malis (Ducheck)

Anne Malis, aged 98, passed away peacefully with family by her side on June 1, 2012 at Seven Oaks Hospital.
Anne was born on April 23, 1914 on the family homestead in Rossdale, MB. Anne’s parents had emigrated from Ukraine and the family worked hard to be self-sufficient. On September 23, 1932 Anne married Frank Malis. Their first home was in Narol, MB. and together with Frank’s family they worked the family farm growing vegetables for sale at the markets in Winnipeg. In 1948, Anne and Frank moved to Selkirk, where they established Malis Motors Pontiac Buick GMC Dealership. Anne loved her new home on Eveline and set to raise their three children of the time as well as care for Frank`s mother and brother Leo. In 1952 and then 1955 two more children were welcomed into the family. In 1964 Anne joined the workforce and became Malis Motors’ Chief Financial Officer. Anything that Anne did she did thoroughly, never backing down from a challenge. She was a woman of strong faith, a committed member of Notre Dame Church and the CWL. She was also an active member of the community working on the Selkirk Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and Selkirk Rotary-Ann’s.
Mom loved to cook and made healthy, tasty meals for her family and anyone Dad would bring over, usually last minute. She also loved to knit, crochet, do needlepoint and petit-point, producing many beautiful pieces of work. She was an avid gardener and loved to grow and care for indoor and outdoor plants.
She retired from Malis Motors in 1979 and went on to enjoy golfing, traveling, visiting family in various parts of the country, including 2 trips to Europe. Mom’s last place of residence, before the Maples Care Home, was St. Benedict`s Place. Mom was so happy there as she would go to pray in the evenings, attend weekly Masses and receive loving care and share a deep friendship with the Sisters of St. Benedict’s and their staff. The family is so grateful to the Sisters for this and so much more.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Maples for their kind care during her stay there. Also, we extend our gratitude for the wonderful care that Mom received at SOGH in the fall of 2011, with special thanks to Rose Dziadekwich, Dr. Abbott, the ER staff, Dr. Bialy and staff of 5U7 and 5U1, especially Evelyn Mitchell.

Albert McFadyen
1922 - 2011

Albert McFadyen of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Ward at Roblin District Health Centre on Tuesday October 18, 2011 at the age of 89 years.
Albert was born on March 29, 1922 in the R.M. of Shell River, Manitoba, a son to Margaret Jane McDougall and Malcolm J. McFadyen. He was a middle child in what was to become a family of fourteen. His schooling was in Tummel, though the advent of the depression ended his education before high school. Thereafter he worked for neighbours and on the family farm, often for little or no remuneration.
When WW II broke out Albert served overseas, participating in the Normandy invasion with the Canadian Scottish of the 7th Brigade. Wounded three times in the fighting to close the Falais Gap, he convalesced in England for three months before being sent home by the hospital ship Lady Nelson.
After the war when land came available through Veteran’s Affairs, Albert took up mixed farming in the Tummel District.
Albert and Ilene Roe were married in Tummel United Church on November 5, 1948. After raising their family on the farm south of Roblin, they moved to town in the early 1980’s.
Albert was a member of Tummel Community Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Roblin Branch # 24.
Later in life, Albert and Ilene travelled, which included trips to Alaska and the United Kingdom. The Sunday afternoon drive was a frequent form of relaxation; a means to see how other crops were doing, and often ended by dropping in on a relative for a visit. They welcomed the many places in which their children and grandkids lived around the province and in B.C., as each represented an opportunity to visit somewhere that they otherwise wouldn’t have seen.
Albert is survived by his children, Rodney (Jackie), Lynn (Lynette) and Shelly; grandchildren, Marc, Shaun, Kyle, Renee, Christopher, Vincent, and Cherilyn; great granddaughter Aven; sister Gertie Prosick of Port Coquitlam B.C; brothers-in law, Don Kahut and Bill Cranwell; sister-in-law Daune Roe; and numerous nephews and nieces across the country.
Albert’s family wish to extend a thank you to the Doctors, nurses and support staff of the Roblin Hospital, Reverend David Maxwell, Bob and Diane Nairn and staff at Nairn–Chyz Funeral Home, and others who so thoughtfully assisted them throughout his illness. Special thanks are extended to the Home Care staff that assisted Albert at home, and brightened his days of illness with the news from about town.
With family in attendance, Albert was laid to rest after cremation at Deer Park Cemetery in Tummel on Saturday October 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM.
