GERALD DELORME
July 17, 2004 at Gillam Hospital, Gerald Delorme's courageous battle with cancer ended. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife Geraldine and their children, Glenda and Neil, Kristen and Martin, Caroline, Brandy and Anthony, Khristopher and Geri-Lyn, as well as five grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Regina; his brothers, John and Roseanne, Paul, Roger and Laurie, Bill and Rose, and Dennis; and his two sisters, Doris and Rick and Pat and Neal. He was predeceased by his brother Albert and his father Amable. He will be greatly and sadly missed by his family and his numerous friends.
Gerald was born in Steinbach on April 9, 1954. He was raised in Marchand and lived there until he began to work at an early age. Gerald began to work up north at the hydro dams in Gillam, Man. After some years of this, he started driving taxi and eventually came to own the business, which was something he had always wanted to do. Gerald especially loved the people and community of Gillam, and made this his permanent home for the next 35 years. It was there that he married his partner in life, Geraldine, and raised his family, which was truly his greatest joy in life, and he cherished them dearly.
Approximately one year ago Gerald was diagnosed with colon cancer. Unfortunately, it was already in an advanced stage and got progressively worse in the following months. He persevered through several operations and some chemotherapy, but the cancer had spread rapidly by this time. Gerald's strong will to live and to be with family kept him fighting for life as long as possible. His struggle ended this past weekend when he went to be with his Lord and Saviour.
Gerald, we will miss you so much - your easygoing ways, your caring attitude, and just being that special person that we are so grateful that we had for these years. We love you dearly, and you will always remain close to us in our hearts.
The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Friday, July 23, 2004 at 2 p.m., with viewing one hour prior to the service. Cremation to follow.
We want to extend heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming prayers and support, as well as all the love and kindness shown by all his family and friends. Furthermore, much thanks to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the various hospitals Gerald was admitted to during his battle with cancer.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Room ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave.; Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
Arrangements entrusted to Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, Man.
