Patricia (Patty) Mary Ferguson
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother, Patty Mary Ferguson (nee Belton).
Remaining to forever cherish her memory: her husband Dwight, son Jason, daughter Brandi (Andrew), and granddaughter Lainie; mother Mary Belton and two brothers, Brian and Barry (Wendy) Belton; mother-in-law Liz Ferguson, two brothers-in-law Rod (Wanda) and Tom (Gwen) Ferguson, one sister-in-law Violet (Bobby) Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.
Patty was predeceased by her father Frank Belton and her father-in-law Lawrence Ferguson.
Patty was born in Gladstone, Manitoba on February 23, 1956 to Frank and Mary Belton. In her early years, she lived on a farm out in the marsh northeast of Plumas. After a fire destroyed their home, they lived in numerous places prior to building their house northwest of Plumas. Her father’s illness forced a move off the farm into the town of Plumas in 1972. Her elementary school years were spent in Plumas and high school spent in Gladstone. Soon after, she met Dwight Ferguson. They were married in 1974 and resided in Helston, where they raised their two children, Jason and Brandi.
Patty was actively involved with her children’s interests: baseball, hockey, ringette, and music. During her children’s younger years she pursued her interests of baseball and curling, but as her children’s schedules got busier her priority was them. She enjoyed spending countless hours chauffeuring and watching them with their various activities. As the family expanded to include the newest addition, her pride and joy, her granddaughter Lainie, you would find Grandma spending as much time as possible with her.
Patty always had the time to listen to her children, family, or friends; if it meant helping them work through life’s challenges or celebrating life’s successes. She had the unique ability to make a person feel special and important. She brought out the best in everyone. Her smile could brighten up the dullest day. Patty worked as a receptionist at a doctor’s clinic in Neepawa. She then went to Valley Royal Travel in Gladstone, helping people plan their vacations. Later, she decided to further her education by taking the medical secretary course. Shortly after, she got the job of homecare coordinator at Seven Regions Health Centre, though many people will remember her smiling face at the Gladstone Medical Clinic, where she spent most of her career.
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gladstone Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Ian Olive and Pastor Randy Fehr officiating. Lynn Watson gave the eulogy and soloist Staphanie Jackson sang "I Hope You Dance."
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Seven Regions Palliative Care, Box 374, Gladstone, Manitoba R0J 0T0.
